My brother and I booked a 2 night stay here in order to catch up with family friends. I knew as soon as we walked in and were welcomed warmly by Julie that we would enjoy it! 
Our room and bathroom were very clean and bed extremely comfortable. Cooked breakfasts were delicious. 
Nothing was too much trouble for Julie and Brian. 
There was a problem with no hot water and a plumber was supposed to have turned up the day before- but hadn’t. Brian managed to sort the immersion heater and we were able to have hot showers. 
I would recommend a stay here, although due to covid, services like the cafe and dinner in the restaurant are sadly no longer available. This is beyond the owners’ control. There are plenty of places locally where you can eat. 
Julie and Brian are perfect hosts and obviously work well together. Thank you both for a lovely, relaxing stay xx

Great customer service with well equipped, clean and spacious rooms, warm and welcoming stay. Cant beat the location with a 7 minute walk from the station and 10 minute walk into Reading town centre.  
I will be returning when traveling to Reading in the future.

Warm and Welcoming

Stayed here at Thameside for three nights, absolutely loved the location and service. staff were very friendly and the hotel room as immaculate. bed sheets were fresh and made. also the bathroom was very clean and well looked after. over all really enjoyed my stay here and would recommend:)

The hotel was warm and welcoming, and comfortable. The rooms were very very clean, the bed linen was fresh, clean and crisp,  the room was presented to a high professional standard. Momentarily stayed here 2 weeks ago in room #3. It was late by the time I got to Reading so there was limited availability in the area. Checked in & paid with the night porter and went up to the room. Opened the door to a very basic room but I half expected that anyway. Sat down to send some emails and decided some fresh air was probably needed but the window handle was broken off. As I returned to the bed to unpack I could hear some shuffling noises, figured it was the room next door but this got louder and louder and was in the walls and under the floor boards. It then became apparent this was not shuffling but scratching of rodents. At that I packed my things and went down to the night porter and told him they had a rodent infested room. He didn’t protest or want to examine my concerns as if to note to himself that it was no surprise and this wasn’t the first time they’ve had this complaint most likely. I was informed by night porter refund would go through. I called the hotel next day to ensure this but no answer and left a voicemail and since have not received a call back or refund. Absolute disgrace. This place should be shut down and inspected by health inspectors.

Terrible rodent infested stay

To be honest the hotel stay was fine but a couple of hours after the check out time o was informed the booking agent hadn't transferred them the money when I had already paid it to them. 

They then asked me to chase the booking agent and threatened to charge me again.

I did explain it had only been a few hours since I checked out and that this was really an issue between the hotel and the booking agent but they threatened to charge my card again and then hung up abruptly.

1 night stay

I booked the room on behalf of my parents; we needed a room with wheelchair access and they were happy to accomodate! Even though the room was right by the main road (fantastic location and very conveniently by the station) there was barely a sound. Lovely room run by lovely people

Accomodating and welcoming

Can not say how much we enjoyed our stay with Julie and Brian. they are wonderful people and nothing is to much trouble to make you feel part of the family! Lovely hotel and would not hesitate to recommend anyone spend time there wether with work or sightseeing in the surrounding area.

Wonderful stay with wonderful people !

Having worked extensively in the tourism industry, particularly in product management... The Thameside Hotel would have not been on surface a place I would have tried. HOWEVER the delicious breakfast coupled with the helpfulness and earnestness of the staff have changed my original reaction to the property. Also, to anyone discouraged to stay here, that it is simply an underdog worth the chance of a night’s stay

I will say that the staff need to double and triple check some of the rooms before the last point of check in, this is more of a constructive criticism as I had several dark hairs on the linens of my bed. I feel as if this was not the case I could give a full-throated approval of the property in spite of my innital pause. That being said I was able to get a good night sleep and the bed was quite comfortable. The property itself does not impress by any means, but with the lack of options in the area it may not have to. Additionally those running the property had stated that some of the physical holdups were due to a recent storm that they were working quickly to fix. I believe that to be completely true and hope that things are cleaned up quickly and wish everyone the property the best in the future. 

Additionally I shall tell anyone who chooses to stay at the property, that the proprietors and managers of the property are friendly, helpful people willing to do whatever it takes to provide a quality night stay. My co-workers and I needed to attend an important videoconference and the owner made sure we had access to the private office internet (as opposed to the regular visitor internet provided) as well as an excluded area of the bar provided to us so that we could attend the meeting unencumbered by others. They provided any additional amenities we asked for with a swift and happy response. A general care was shown that we felt comfortable with our stay. And for me the big draw was the breakfast. I’m American who loves to taste the local cuisine, and this was my first time to England. I enjoyed a traditional English style breakfast every single morning of my stay over the course of a week and at several different hotel properties and restaurants. One of these night’s stay included eating breakfast at a 4.5 Star property, the breakfast at the Thameside Hotel was better quality. Overall I hope others will not disqualify this property from their choices, and thank the proprietors of it for providing the best service to their ability.

An underdog worth the chance. The place has heart.

At first glance, the room I stayed in was very minimal, but clean and made up every day!  The host and hostess are amazing and treated me like family.  I was traveling alone and they helped me navigate around England and London - no matter what time of day with a smile.  Food was great - love English Bacon by the way!!!  Very quiet, air conditioned during the worst heat wave they've seen.  I give it two thumbs up!!!  Customer Service and Cleanliness is key and they have five stars for that!!  Thank you for making my maiden trip to England a great one!
