I don't know what has happened here but this place needs either condemning or a major refurbishment, and in the meantime it should be shut for business! To arrive here for a seven week conference and be met by a marquee that has seen better days, land that looks like a building site, toilets that make a trip to a nearby bush seem like a more favourable option and disinterested staff, this is a journey I dread every week. How they can justify charging for this venue is beyond me. I wouldn't host a cattle show here let alone a business conference. Some serious work and money needs to be ploughed into this place. In the meantime, if you're looking for a conference, wedding or other as a venue, my advice is to bypass this option and go elsewhere. Shameful.

Conference in a dishevelled shack

Just returned from the Charlie and Chocolate factory Christmas Party - what a let down.  Drive up to Trunkwell full of large potholes, car park the same with mud and not lit at all.  Floor in marquee very uneven.  For over £50 we got a small glass of Prosecco either meat or vegetarian at each course no other choices - starter pate, main turkey followed by chocolate mousse or Xmas pud - the food was OK, but so not worth what we paid.  The acts were 3 girls dancing for about 2 minutes then about 30 minutes later 2 guys on stilts bounding around for about 3 minutes - that was it!!  Nothing to entertain while we waited 20 minutes++ between courses as they have such a large venue to feed.  The serving staff did a good job, but we didn't appreciate being constantly leaned across while we were having a conversation so the tables could be cleared at 11pm, it was like having the chairs put up on the table around us (especially as the venue was supposed to finish at 12!)  The cost of the drinks was astonishing, minimum £6 for a small glass of wine, a bucket of 6 bottles of beer £35!  The sweet corner opened at 10pm and you got a extremely small ball of candy floss free, all other sweets were paid for and very expensive.  The music was OK if you like club music and a bad sound system.  All in all, so not worth it unless you want an incredibly expensive night out and not much to show for it

Christmas Party Let Down

Women in high heels walking though a muddy field to a tent with very uneven floors was the welcome.
Entertainment was three dancers !?!? 
Then two unpulumpers on stilts !?!?
Awful disco and very poor sound quality, didn't dance once !
Not a sign of any chocolate 
Food good, staff helpful and drink prices ok but otherwise why was it given a theme name
Not the best Christmas party by far 😟

Charlie chocolate Christmas party

There are only a few rooms at the hotel which is really geared up for weddings and events.  Stayed over for a wedding event and had bed and continental breakfast.  Had tried to contact hotel beforehand to check if the room would be available in the morning for guests to change but no one called back.  I have never come across such a hotel which doesn't respond to prospective customers.
The building is great and has been refurbished and decorated to a high standard.  Think that other rooms are very good but the blue room has an overbath hand held style of shower with very poor water flow.  I don't think i've ever stayed at a hotel with a worse shower.

Great facility but let down by attention to detail

Attended a Party Night so we booked a standard room. 

We arrived to a very warm welcome and as there were very few guests, were offered a few upgrade to a suite. 

The Green Room is simply beautiful - a four poster bed with a seating area. The Bathroom was large with both a roll top bath and shower.

A continental breakfast was waiting at our agreed time and was more than your standard.  Croissants; pastries; toast; cereals; fruit; yoghurts; fresh meat and cheese.

If we were in the area, we would definitely stay again.

Perfect Stay

Only writing this to avert anyone else from making the mistake of booking this venue for their wedding like I did. As soon as they have your deposit they will lose complete interest in providing any kind of service. We hired the marquee for a summer wedding. The marquee linen was disgustingly dirty and the flooring is like a springboard which completely destroyed our wedding cake. The venue has no running water which we and our catering team were not informed of. The portable toilets they provide ran out of water halfway through the event which i am told has happened on previous occasions and yet has not been resolved. This left my quests unable to flush the toilets or wash their hands. On top of the sorry state the venue was in, it turns out they had another wedding in the venue two day's before and hadn't cleared up which meant they were cleaning well into the start of our wedding. I had raised my concerns with the venue months before the wedding but to no avail. This was a once in a lifetime event for me and my wife and Trunkwell House royally messed it up. Their response to all the issues is that they were not aware or guests hadn't approached them to complain which in someways would be fair had it not been for the fact staff were nowhere to be seen on the day. My advise to anyone considering this venue is STAY AWAYYYYY.

AVOID AVOID AVOID

My husband and I were attending an event on the property and stayed one night.  We were allocated the Green Room, which was absolutely stunning.  There were 2 comfortable armchairs and a chaise lounge and the other touches around the room were beautiful, as was the view from the large window.  The bathroom had a great shower and a gorgeous roll-top bath. 
Breakfast, although it did have a lot of gluten options and processed cereals to choose from, was abundant and also included a selection of fresh cheese and fruit.
I think we were the only guests, and this surprised me, as for the price we paid - less than £100 - the quality of the accommodation was worth much more.
If we are ever in the area again, we will definitely be looking to stay here.

Excellent accommodation for the price.

Attended a wedding here and had a fantastic day. Weather was gorgeous. One down fall to the day was the staff. There was no coordination and no smile was seen on a single face other than the guests that attended.
