My family and I all had a wonderful comfortable and relaxing stay at Penralley House B&B that is situated in a most convenient location near to the historic town centre of Rhayader with wonderful views of the beautiful Elan Valley and surrounding countryside. My family and I were grateful to Steve for his helpful and professional hospitality and we thoroughly enjoyed Jill’s delicious cooked breakfasts, coffee and tea. It was a memorable and special experience to stay in such a magnificent Georgian town house that has been lovingly restored by the current owner. The superb spacious and well-furnished bedrooms were fantastic to relax in after an enjoyable day exploring the local heritage sites. Many enjoyable walks are available locally with wonderful scenery and views across the Elan Valley including the incredibly engineered dams and reservoirs which are all magnificent. We highly recommend this outstanding B&B and we all look forward to returning in the future.

Wonderful comfortable and relaxing stay at Penralley House

Steve, our host, was so knowledgeable about community attractions and services. He provided assistance above and beyond any expectations when we lost a phone and left without it. We’re so thankful! The rooms at Penralley are lovely. We spent some time on the benches - enjoying the garden. Breakfasts? Excellent! All fresh and delicious. We had a wonderful two-night stay

A gem!

This place is a real treat, everything about it, from being greeted by the host Steve, down to the little details. Nothing to much bother for him. Booking us in for our meal on arrival, down to information on things to do in the area. His Diamond as he calls her, makes a superb breakfast, and is a lovely warm bubbly person. I wouldn't hesitate to stay here, the gardens are beautiful, and when we finished our days out, everybody sat in the garden talking. We would recommend this lovely quaint building, full of character too anyone. 

Home from Home

Penralley House has been beautifully restored and has maintained many of the original features. The garden is simply amazing and when I was there Penralley House hosted an Open Garden afternoon where more than 500 people came to enjoy all that the garden offered. Breakfast a la carte was excellent and my room had the most amazingly comfortable bed. Steve thank you so much for a very enjoyable 3 nights stay. Also thank you to your two 'helpers'! Ideally situated, Penralley House is very close to the centre of Rhayader and many eateries. Thanks for being a great host Steve, see you in 2024.

Beautiful house and fantastic welcome

Me and my wife stayed here last week, Met by Steve when checking in who gave us all the information as well as some tips on places to eat and things to do in the area. 

Our room was spotless, very comfortable bed and plenty of tea/coffee. We didn’t have a shower, just a large free-standing bath which suited us. 

Breakfast was good, all freshly cooked with loads of choices, we went for the full Welsh breakfast, which had everything you would expect. 

I had some car problems with my boot on checking out, I would like to thank Steve, Gill and the other guests who tried to get us going again. We used tie wraps and managed to get home, the problem was just some wires rubbing together that we fixed yesterday. 

I would definitely stay here again and have already recommended Penralley House to friends.



Great stay, lovely comfortable accomodation

A well run, comfortable and clean B&B in an excellent state of repair. We were in the Cedar room at the rear of the building which was probably somewhat quieter than rooms in the front - the A470 runs immediately outside the front of the building and large, noisy HGVs pass by from time to time although not at night that we noticed.

Room was a good size with plenty of space for bags, clothes, etc and with a good-sized ensuite bathroom - I do hate bathrooms jammed into cupboards! This had plenty of room.

A large, pleasant and quiet garden at the rear where you can have picnic lunches/dinners or just relax.

Excellent breakfasts included in the room price.

Plenty of private, off-street parking to the rear but access is rather narrow - i could get our 1.8 metre wide car through with perhaps 20 cm to spare on each side.

Owner very helpful with recommendations on where to eat.

Top B&B

Visited this week on a two night stay to celebrate anniversary and visit old ‘haunts’ from childhood. This has got to be one of the best guest houses or b&b’s in the whole of mid Wales. It is a lovely period house close to the centre of town yet set in large well cared for gardens with lovely rear views. It has been tastefully and carefully renovated/restored by the current owner Steve, who goes out of his way to ensure that you have an enjoyable and comfortable stay. The rooms are spacious and well appointed with modern en-suites. Nothing is too much trouble for Steve, very ably assisted by Gill. The breakfasts are brilliant, as described by other visitors and Steve is a font of knowledge regarding the local area and places to visit/eat. The front road can be quite busy but doesn’t  adversely impact on any stay. The side drive is narrow but accessible to most cars and there is ample parking around the rear, which is a definite bonus in Rhayader. Needless to say the lovely Elan Valley and Red Kite centre are within a couple of miles. We will certainly visit and stay here again and recommend it to anyone we know.

Short Break

Penralley House is the best B&B my wife and I have stayed in, Steve the owner was most welcoming and very helpful. My wife described the breakfast and choice as exceptional; the room was lovely spacious and clean and the views from the garden amazing. Steve’s recommendation for places to eat and visit in the local area were spot on and we will definitely stay there again.

Perfect weekend, wonderful host, lovely accommodation 

Penrally House was a great weekend stay and in a perfect location for what we wanted to do and see.
Steve the owner was a great host, extremely helpful and knowledgeable about the area and where to go for the best food etc. He also had a great sense of humour and made us laugh.
The room was lovely with a king size bed and we loved the stand alone bath, a touch of luxury.
Good hot, freshly cooked breakfasts, what else does one need?
We would definitely return and recommend it to anyone else.

Penralley House- Highly recommend it

We have just come back from our 2 night stay in this  stunning B&B. Steve is a wonderful host who talked us through options for dinner out in Rhayader  and explained times for breakfast etc. We were shown to our room Bramble which is located at the rear of the property with its own access with views onto the substantial gardens. Such a shame the weather wasn’t better so we could enjoy sitting on our veranda enjoying the tranquil setting. The room itself was comfy and the added amenities of tea, coffee, hot chocolate etc and a bottle of water was a lovely touch. The shower was lovely, bed a little small but we are used to a super king so took a little adjusting but was very comfy.
In the morning Steve greets you and takes you through to your table for Jill to make you the most amazing cooked breakfast. There is also cereals, yogurts, jams/marmalade and apple/orange juice cartons available. 
The hot breakfast is cooked to order from a varied menu. 
We had full English (Poached eggs) with beans and also scrambled eggs with smoked salmon alongside our morning cafetière of coffee. 
The breakfast was the best we have eaten in a B&B and set us up nicely for the long day of walking ahead. Thank you Jill. 
Parking is to the rear of the house. We drove a L200 down the driveway with no issues, just take it slow and you’ll be fine. 
Thank you once again Steve. We thoroughly enjoyed staying in your beautiful home and will be back again in the future for sure. I didn’t want to leave.
