We have been visiting this lovely family-run hotel for some years and it never ceases to impress. The staff are helpful and attentive, the rooms are spacious and well appointed and the food is quite simply exceptional. Would strongly recommend.

Guaranteed excellence!

This is our third visit. Love going at this time of year sitting in front of the cosy log fire with homemade scones and homemade Jam. The food here is so good. The lamb dish, outstanding. The staff are so friendly and really look after you. The use of local produce is good to see. Lovely room. The little extras like homemade fudgebrownies to take to your room really make this a special place.

Wonderful relaxing stay.  The staff here are truly lovely and make you feel very welcome.  We stayed in The Valley Suite, which is short ascent up through the garden, but is worth it for the most stunning room with amazing views.  The food here is excellent and highly recommended.  There is something very special about this hotel and lots of guests are repeat stays.

Nice hotel in a remote location. Very much an older person's place.Served tea and scone on arrival but I didn't like the plastic tray.Food was well presented and served but I wouldn't say high end fine dining.

Solo visit

This is the fifth time we have stayed at Pen Y Dyffryn and as always we had a wonderful time.  The  hotel is very comfortable with friendly efficient staff and the food is amazing.  The setting of the hotel is quite remote and you can walk straight out from the front door into the beautiful countryside.  The hotel provides walk notes for short to challenging hikes in the vicinity.  Its lovely to spend the day walking and then change into something smarter to enjoy a delicious four course meal.  We were particularly impressed by the vegetarian option provided at dinner.  The dishes were innovative, well balanced and beautifully presented.  It's such a treat to stay here.

A really restorative pampering break in stunning countryside

We have just come back from a weekend break at Pen Y Dyffryn for my husbands birthday. We stayed in the Blue Room, which is a standard room in the main hotel. It was beautifully furnished, cosy and warm and had everything we needed. 

Every evening we had dinner in the on site restaurant where we ate amazing food. Breakfast was lovely too. I am gluten intolerant and they were happy to modify dishes to make them safe for me to eat. What we paid for our package deal included the 4 course dinner every night so it was really reasonable cost wise. 

The hotel had a nice lounge with a fire where we sat and played games in the afternoon and was in beautiful countryside where we took strolls to walk off all the food we ate! 

It was a really lovely break and we would definitely return!

Absolutely beautiful country hotel with excellent food

Excellent hotel with truly lovely welcoming staff.  Food was outstanding and with good choice on the menu.  Beautiful views with lots of walks right from the front door.  The hotel can even provide suggested walks to assist you.  Hotel is dog friendly and even have a field you can walk your dogs in behind the hotel if you wish.  Lots of places to visit in the area.  All the rooms are individual and beautifully equipped, some rooms have spa baths which are a real bonus.  Who could want for anything more?

Wow!

After such a dry summer, we decided to try out this Hotel in a wet and stormy November. Their web site showed  warm and comfortable bedrooms with wonderful dinners and scrumptious breakfasts. Log fires and wonderful friendly staff. We were not disappointed. The hotel situation was spectacular, on the side of a hill looking over to Wales. Old world charm and our bedroom was outside the Hotel building, called Lower court a 1940's charm with a stable door that let an interesting cold stream of Welsh mountain air and kept our feet icy cold. At night we could hear mice up in the loft. The toilet had a push button that kept us fit as it needed lots of pushing to make it flush. The bath was a deep one that when full the water almost covered my ankles. The dinners every evening were the highlight of the stay and started with canapes, soup , starters and main and desert. Unfortunately there is a shortage of potatoes in the area and the broccoli could not be cooked, but the carrots were and the deserts were the high point. Brilliant walking area and maps in the hotel.      

A place in a rather damp paradise

Truely sublime.  Breath-taking views from the Valley Room, completely delightful, spacious accommodation and sinfully self-indulgent wet room with the largest jacuzzi we have ever seen in a private bathroom. 

There is a wealth of things to see and do in the surrounding area: National Trust properties, a steam railway operates at the weekends, aqueducts and canal boats.  

The food was sublime, the chef very willing to make minor adjustments to the menu for allergies and the relatively small number of diners created a warm, welcoming and environment conducive to conversation. 

The staff team is great, welcoming and  nothing too much trouble.  The hospitality gene runs  deep in this family-run business.  A bit pricey but as Mads Mikkelsken might put it: if Carlsberg did Hotels, this would be it.

Would return in a heart-beat.

Go  spoil yourself

Just retuned from a fantastic weekend in the Valley Suite at the Pen Y Dyffryn! The room was spacious, comfortable, and has stunning views across the valley. The hotel is very dog friendly and they had some great walk recommendations. Staff were so welcoming and couldn’t have looked after us any better. We can’t wait to visit again soon!
