I booked a stay at Spitbank for August 2020 as a special treat.  However, with Covid impacting the hospitality industry, tried to contact the Solent Fort office for guidance.  The phone simply had an answer machine message advising the office wasn't manned and that I needed to email in.  There then came a standard response regarding the impact Covid has had with a comment that there might be some bookings going ahead late summer.  I never received a personal email advising that my booking had to be cancelled or any information pertaining to the not insignificant charge I had paid.  Despite repeated attempts to get my money back I have not had one email from the company.
I agree with other reviewers that with the marketing of the forts for sale, I'd suggest that their accounts are not looking too good.  Shame it's my money they're holding if there is any credit on their books!!!

Is anybody there?

I stayed with a number of colleagues as part of an award. Whilst the overall experience was good, the service from the staff was very poor and they were not particularly good at delivering service in the right way. A number of things didn’t happen like treatments we had booked in advance and the staff didn’t seem to care.

The evening meal was a barbecue and whilst we were relaxing with our group, I noticed a number of the staff downing alcohol at the bar in great quantities.

As we left the next morning, we all had the same view, that it was unlikely to survive - if you are paying that kind of money, you want better service from people with better standards

These poor reviews don’t surprise me

I accept we live in difficult times but the lack of proactive ness and lies from Solent Forts is disgraceful. With my booking cancelled due to corona virus, I was told on 13th April I would be refunded in 14 days. On the 30th April I was then told it would be in a couple of days. I have all this proof in writing from them. Now you cannot contact by phone,they don’t reply o emails and my assumption is they presume they will sadly go bust and therefore not have to refund anyone. Assume others are having the same issues.

Where is our promised refund

I think they might go out of business soon. I called for 2 weeks and sent several emails without any reply. Then finally reached them to be told that they will need to cancel our stay as they haven't reached the numbers. Our holidays were booked. Shocking customer service.

Complete disaster. Cancelled our room days before the trip due to not reaching the numbers. Also never reachable.

We celebrated New Year here as a family and thoroughly enjoyed our experience. 

All Solent Fort staff were extremely friendly, which made our evening extra special.

The boat ride across from the Commercial Port, in Gunwharf Quays, was very smooth and enjoyable - some of our family members are often sea sick, so this was perfect for us.

On arrival at the fort, we were all given a complimentary drink in the Atrium and a short briefing on the itinerary for the evening. We were also told we had the option of a guided tour or to explore the grounds at our own leisure, before dinner - we chose the tour.

Our guide was pleasant enough, but could have been a little more engaging with the group. Ten minutes in, I noticed several people had already slipped away to do their own thing. The information given was very interesting, but the way in which it was delivered wasn’t too fitting for a New Year’s Eve party.

After the tour we were lead into the Mess Hall for a three course meal. I opted for the Goats Cheese, Oxtail and Baked Alaska - all to die for!

Post dinner there was music and a band playing, to welcome in the new year, but we chose to fill our time in the games room instead, before watching the fireworks along the coastline; the views were amazing from the outside deck. 

Shortly after the midnight celebrations, we returned to Gunwharf Quays on the boat. A few guests stayed on at the fort, as their tickets included an overnight stay - something that’s definitely on the list for the future!

New Year Party!

Booked a lunch experience for my birthday 22nd December a few months a go at £100 each. 

The first disappointment was a couple of weeks before when I got a phone call informing me that they didn't reach the attendance goal and they would be moving us to the smaller fort. I was polite about it but was a bit disappointed not to be going to the larger fort. 
Then today I got a TEXT informing me around 24 hours in advance that the whole experience was cancelled due to wind levels. The text asked me to call in to find out more information.
When I spoke to the lady and she explained how the boat docking in high winds was dangerous (even though BBC weather said light breeze). Again disappointed but understood. ALTHOUGH I felt that the customer service was lacking she just about said sorry but it didn't seem sincere at all. I said rebooking wouldn't really work since it was my birthday the next day but did ask if I could get some sort of good will discount or small compensation due to the inconvenience she flat out said no and read out their policy. 

I understand when you can't control the weather but they should of called each customer to inform them and say sorry not make the customer call them. And how much would it really cost them to not lose a future booking to give a 5-10% discount to rebook or give something as simple as a gift or free food upgrade. 

Really disappointed in the customer service I received and has made me question booking again in the future. 
I now need to struggle to find a table at a nice restaurant for my birthday last min on the busiest weekend of the year.  

Birthday Cancelled Last Minute

Although I booked this as a surprise honeymoon for my best friend three months ago at a cost of 1700 pounds I got told today it had been cancelled , offered a glass of champagne and a booking different location a month later : I did ask how that works for a honeymoon couple and was met with arrogance and someone totally inept in dealing with problem 

To make matters worse kept calling me by my wrong name guess 1700 means nothing to them

Honeymoon cancelled

We booked and paid months in advance for our 50th birthday and received a phone call 4 days prior to say they were cancelling our booking. Not through bad weather (expected and acceptable) but because they didn't have enough bookings to warrant honouring our booking.. poor show and really pushing the boundaries of fair play. Please please make it obvious on your front page that this is an acceptable occurrence for your company to prevent a similar special occasion disaster for others. My response from yourselves was a link to your t & c's. Really.....

Dreadful Experience

From beginning to end our hosts on the fort were outstanding.

The 1 star rating purely on them managing to lose our luggage and taking over a week to return it... When they say 'your luggage went on the earlier' 'it will be fine' don't trust them.

No apology. No compensation. Terrible.

Stag.

We were given a night on spitbank fort for our first wedding anniversary and my husbands 30th. Unfortunately spitbank’s generator was out so we chose to have the night on no mans fort instead (we were also offered a refund or to come back another time). There was a particularly high tide so it took two boats but we finally arrived. We had a fantastic night. The staff are trying their absolute best and they do as well as they can despite the elements/difficulties they face being based out in the middle of the Solent. They upgraded us to room 3 which was gorgeous, with a complimentary bottle of fizz in the room and £70 towards our bill due to the change of package. Such a different night away, food was great, service exceptional and we used the spa the next morning which was divine. Special mention to Marcel the manager who managed to get a fire going on the roof despite the storm (weather warnings had been issued!). Such a different night away I would thoroughly recommend. Just keep in mind it might not be completely straight forward and be prepared to go with the flow. I would be very interested to see what Spitbank is like in comparison but maybe next time.
