Dropped in during a Friday night pub crawl. Surprisingly quiet. Beer wasn't the cheapest, perhaps that's why (prices vary wildly in the pubs of Ryde, so it's worth moving around). The design of the Kasbah is promisingly quirky--gave the pub an atmosphere even when not busy. But it also struck me as a bit shabby and neglected. The highlight for me was the barman, the fellow with the ponytail. He fist-bumped me when I said I like the Ramones, so we hit it off. He plays in a band himself and showed me some interesting tracks on the music telly thing they have in the Kasbah. Glad to have met this upbeat guy, who made me welcome.

Friendly barman

Have never stayed but have been in for a drink and lived nearby for a while. Seedy, noisy, violent pub which continuously breaches noise regulations. Open late all the time, plenty of fights and awful people. I cannot imagine why anyone would ever want to stay there.

Absolute hole

The location itself was lovely and so was the staff. would stay again. very clean but the rooms are a little cramp. but serves its purpose for a short stay. overall a nice place and not too expensive. 

good value for money

I had a great week at the kasbah with friendly helpful staff my room was cleaned daily and if I needed anything I only had to ask they even gave me a card and cake for my birthday wonderful people in a great place

Rocking at the kasbah

I stayed here solo for two nights, after spending a long weekend with others elsewhere on the island.

My room was comfortable, nicely furnished, and had a good en suite shower. It was generally clean, although there some signs of wear and tear, e.g. scuffed walls etc. The Moroccan basin was pretty but rather shallow and a little impractical.

There was no noise during my mid week stay, breakfast was decent, and it was excellent value.

Comfortable and great value

I read the reviews prior to staying at Kasbah, so was aware of some of it's issues. The issues raised in almost all of the low scoring reviews of Kasbah are completely correct, unfortunately. The building itself is a lovely old pub, which could look really nice. Emphasis on the 'could'. 

My first night was a Wednesday and was informed after checking in, that there would be live music on until midnight and that the bar was open until 2am. Not the greatest of greetings, but they did provide ear plugs (Which were poor) The band were at least not awful, but they were so loud that I didn't need to leave my room to listen to them. It sounded like they were performing in my room. How they get away with a band playing that loudly until midnight on a weekday is beyond me.

So the first night gave a bad impression, so hoped for better from the second night. The second night turned sour at about 8pm, when the karaoke started... Not only was the karaoke PA at least twice as loud as it needed to be (You could probably hear it from Portsmouth) but it was about the same 3 or 4 people singing, really awfully, all evening.

As a bar, I'm sure that Kasbah would be great for a night out. But when you're open until 2am as a loud bar with live music and/or karaoke, you shouldn't also be a "boutique B&B".

I was not surprised by the quality of the room, as I read the other reviews before coming. True to the other reviews, 2 of the 7 lights in the room worked, and the WiFi connection in the room was intermittent, and unusable when it was visible. It was quicker to tether to my mobile phone. The courtyard area was tired and smelly, the water fountain's pump constantly made noise, but the water fountain did not produce any water - simply made noise. The rest of the room was OK, nothing special. The B&B seems to be very rough around the edges and in need of some investment. 

Though, any investment whilst there is a late night bar 3 feet below your feet would be wasted as it completely ruins the B&B.

It's a nice bar and the staff were very friendly. Yes, I would stay here again. Just enough room for two people to open a bag and not fall over each other. The windows opened up straight away, which was a plus for me. The breakfast was excellent and the courtyard was comfortable. After hours of access was good.

Painting

It's a nine-room pub, quiet, clean, not very large rooms, great English and continental breakfast, friendly and available manager, economical, in the centre of Ryde with a large car park nearby.
