I am new to the area and booked an afternoon tea to celebrate my mother's 80th birthday. What a disappointing experience. We drove up  and noticed a very untidy garden straight away. No choice of sesting as they had pre decorated the window seat with plastic happy birthday banners. There was a card on the table that said 'harpy birthday' which gave us a good laugh. The host had to check in the kitchen for the specialty teas. When the tray was brought, the sandwiches were roughly cut, crusts on and the bread looked squashed. When I picked up the prawn sandwich,  it was overfilled and squirted out all over the table. Scones were lovely, but whipped cream rather than clotted and cheap plastic jam rounds that would have been not out of place in a travelodge breakfast bar. Cakes were ok but nothing special. 
There was a dead fly on the windowsill and I really hoped my mother would not notice it, but she said afterwards as she was directly opposite it, it was the first thing she noticed! All in all a let down, and wishing I had taken her elsewhere.

Disappointing afternoon tea

I would love to leave a review about our stay at Broom Hall Country Hotel but am unable to due to an error their end which was handled appallingly. We booked via booking.com and on 12 emails and my booking confirmation from them and this hotel directly it clearly states I booked for two adults. When I received my check in email I went to check in and noticed a single occupancy room had been selected for our booking so called immediately. We are actually local to the area and intended staying in the hotel as we are moving and have three days of ‘limbo’ and it’s an extremely stressful time, I phoned at 11pm the penultimate night in my rental house and two nights before our booking to speak to Jason on the front desk thinking he would help correct the error. I found Jason extremely unhelpful, he essentially washed his hands of the issue immediately, told me it’s up to me to figure it out and continuously heavily implied and outright stated I had selected a single occupancy room as my room rate (this is literally not an option on booking.com, and I didn’t do that, I filtered results for 2 guests only and selected a double room) Jason refused to accept I had booked for two adults. He would also not accept that broom hall had made the mistake and not myself or the booking partner, whilst also confirming that the room had capacity for two people but god forbid he amend the booking or refer me or provide contact details for a manager, instead telling me the managers have gone home and offering no information or perhaps an email address to contact them. I had more than ten emails very clearly stating the room was for two adults and logged in to booking.com whilst on the phone and confirmed the booking was for 2 adults for three nights (I have attached a redacted confirmation received FROM broom hall to this review that literally states I booked for 2 adults and they assigned single occupancy). Jason suggested I should cancel the booking and rebook as a resolution, when I explained I couldn’t as the price was showing up as £400 now and I’d only paid £243 he said ‘yes because you’re adding another person to the booking and it’s now last minute’ and continued in the vein of implying I have tried to pull a fast one by booking a single occupancy room for two people which was both unnecessary and incorrect. Booking.com called the hotel on my behalf as they agreed I’m correct and he gave them the same run around insisting I’d selected a single occupancy room myself, they went as far to make him go on booking.com to demonstrate it was literally not possible for me to have selected a single occupancy room as it’s not an option on their room rates which he saw for himself but again only a manager could deal with this issue the following day, and they should email the hotel (which then falls outside of my free cancellation window and less than 24 hrs till our stay was due to start during the time period our movers are going to be physically present, we’ve enough on our plate and no time for such nonsense!). We opted to cancel our booking begrudgingly last minute before midnight so we could get a refund and are now going to sleep on an air mattress as we are not going to stay somewhere to be treated like we are in the wrong and have someone be so demonstrably unhelpful. Essentially due to their mistake in the eleventh hour they tried to price hike us! Booking.com were discussing relocating us but there’s so few hotels in this area none were reasonably situated so last minute for us to be able to both get to work and access our rental to finish the check out cleaning. Less than impressed and would advise to avoid if you’re going to an event or something date specific.

Unhelpful & Stressful

We were initially concerned at the hotel entrance looked  a bit dismal and decor needing an update. However from that point on everything was excellent. Our rooms were spacious and very comfortable with complimentary tea /coffee and water. I was particularly grateful to find both decaf and fruit tea.  The staff were  helpful and  we found it so peaceful despite the number of occupied rooms. 
The breakfast menu  was extensive and  we all  felt that  everything was very good value for money.

I can’t agree with the negative reviews here I’m afraid. Probably the best Xmas meal I’ve eaten out and the best value. Plenty to eat, cooked perfectly and very tasty!
Staff were lovely and we’ll definitely be back next year!

Boxing Day meal

A group of us had our Christmas meal here last week and I have to say I have never been so disappointed with a ‘festive’ meal in my life. 

The highlight of the evening was being greeted by the beautiful golden retriever but, sadly, everything else was a complete letdown after that.

The dining room we were put in was opposite the reception and we felt like the staff were watching us all evening. Also, it would’ve been nice if any of them had cracked a smile.

One of our party, who was coming from Swaffham, was a couple of minutes late as she had trouble finding it and we were made to feel uncomfortable for keeping them waiting for her! They even suggested we start without her even though it literally was just a couple of minutes past the appointed time.

The place had no festive atmosphere and the dining room was freezing cold. The table decorations were very tired with the glitter flaking off them and the crackers were the cheapest and nastiest I’ve ever seen.

To start, I had the prawn cocktail which was okay but, mainly consisted of lettuce. For main, I had the sea bass, which was cold due to it being served on cold plates. I ended up not eating much of it as it wasn’t great as cold fish and vegetables isn’t that nice. No one asked if everything was okay with my meal despite me leaving so much of it. I was supposed to have the baileys chocolate torte for dessert but, they made a mistake with serving the desserts as they hadn’t thought to put name cards out with our meal choices on and only had the exact number of everything we had ordered (what sort of restaurant doesn’t have any spare food?). To save one of our party being upset, I gave up my dessert and ended up with the Christmas pudding, which wasn’t what I wanted and also, wasn’t very nice. 

We paid almost £30 a head for 3 courses and if you wanted a coffee afterwards, they charged extra! 

I felt like the whole meal was done as cheaply as possible with no consideration for us and the fact it was supposed to be a festive celebration. 

This is the only 3 course meal I’ve had where I’ve had to have something else to eat when I got home as I was still hungry!

We wanted to support a local business by bringing our group of 17 here but, we will never visit here again after our experience.
