We ate here twice during our visit to Staithes. The staff could not have been friendlier. Even in November this place was busy. The fish and chips was the best fish and chips I've had this year. And the beer was excellent. Walked past with the dogs every morning and they were always cleaning at 7.30. Definitely returning. 

Excellent village pub

What a lovely place! We booked last minute due to great bank holiday weather and were so pleased. The staff were great, the room spotless - and smelt lovely! - the breakfast menu was varied and great quality. We couldn't fault it. We'll definitely be back. Thank you for a smashing break x

Loved it!

Went for a drink but staff were very unsociable and the atmosphere was very hostile. We felt very uncomfortable. 
We went on a Saturday night and this pub was not full.
Would not recommend visiting this establishment.

Royal George uncomfortable visit

Absolutely amazing food. The amount of meat in the pie was crazy! And the chips were to die for. Very obliging staff who accommodated special food request. And the bonus was the prices were reasonable too.

Well worth a visit

As we were walking the Cleveland Way the venue had agreed to take delivery and pass on our bags from the baggage transfer company.  We arrived early feeling very weary and needed a cool drink, the young lady at check said just to let us know when we were ready and then took us to our room. The room was very smartly decorated and spacious and included free drinking water bottles. Great location in the centre of the village, the food was also exceptional quality and good value.

Stopped here for two nights, adequate accommodation, ate their one night food no frills but ok, and streets better than the cod and lobster!!!
Found staff very pleasant and friendly, excellent breakfast with good quality ingredients, if anything too much.

Only slight criticism was the rooms are not serviced which I assume started during the pandemic but I see little reason for that.
Not a big issue but it’s nice to return after a day out to a made up bed and clean cups etc.

Good for short stay

A lovely pub in the heart of Staithes with 3 rooms.  My friend and I have just returned from a 3 night stay at The Royal George.  The rooms were clean, tidy and comfortable.  Showers worked well and staff are happy to service rooms during your stay if you require, I didn't bother.  Breakfast was delicious and the staff couldn't have been more helpful and friendly.  Evening meals were also very good, freshly cooked and huge portions - staff advise booking when it's busy.  It was very warm while we were there, I had room 1 so had the bathroom window (overlooking the pretty gardens of cottages below,  and room window (overlooking the street) open which provided a cool breeze.  Seagulls will wake you if your windows are open! My friend was on the ball and contacted the pub  a week beforehand who organised secure parking at the top of the hill for our stay (extra cost) which ensured a space.  The extra cost was well worth it.  You can load and unload outside the pub then drive back up to avoid lugging cases up and down the hill.  Staithes is beautiful.  We did a whale watching trip with Yorkshire Coast Nature (highly recommend) one morning so had to miss breakfast but were immediately offered our evening meal instead.  A perfect place to explore nearby Sandsend and Whitby while supporting UK businesses still struggling with covid cancellations.  Oh and a huge shout out for the cobble cake from the cafe on the harbour.

Great Location

A lovely traditional pub in the Main Street of Staithes. Service was friendly and efficient. Great pint of Theakston’s best which was very welcome after a long walk along the Cleveland Way. Had the smoked haddock fish cakes which were superb - only sorry I couldn’t manage a desert, they looked great.

Lovely pub - gets busy so booking recommended

The perfect setting for a couple of days in Staithes!!
This is our second time visiting Staithes but as it was just for 2 nights we decided to try a B&B instead of a cottage and we certainly weren’t disappointed. The en suite bedroom was a great size and decorated lovely, and the cooked breakfast each morning was the best we’ve ever had…and we’ve had a few! The George is perfectly placed to enjoy lots of lovely walks around Staithes and a great place to sit, relax and enjoy the lovely selection of drinks and food they off too. 

We will certainly be revisiting soon!

The perfect place to stay in Staithes!

I must admit I thought that the availability of a room at The George for a Friday night when more expensive accomodation in the area was fully booked meant that perhaps The George was 'last choice' although the reviews on here were good. We needn't have worried, everything was great from the friendly welcome and service from all the staff to the delicious and very filling evening meal and breakfast. In regards of the breakfast my wife was very well taken care of with gluten free alternatives, her being celiac. The room was cosy, overlooking the street and the bed extremely comfortable. Biscuits, tea,coffee, chocolates and spring water were available in the room. Our only disappointment was that we didn't book for two nights or longer, Staithes itself and the surrounding countryside is just beautiful! We will be back!
