Myself and my cousins stayed here Saturday night 8th December. We all had a lovely stay. The staff were very friendly. Lovely pub area, with an open fire. We only had some chips with our drinks, as we had eaten earlier, but they were lovely chunky chips! Very nice. 
Our rooms were lovely, and the breakfast was delicious!! 
We are all looking forward to returning here, in the near future. 
Would definitely recommend.  


Excellent pub

Stayed bank holiday weekend been staying here a number of years we booked a breakfast and paid for it for the bank holiday Monday before going home we were then asked if we had paid for this breakfast on the Monday by a rude lady who had been serving breakfast I then replied yes we had  paid on arrival  we won’t be returning better places to go

Wont return

Went for an evening meal, we both had burgers and they were fabulous!  And the home made chips were truly that- home made. My son had a breaded chicken burger and I was expecting a reformed frozen chicken burger but I was wrong, it was a beautifully cooked whole breaded chicken burger.

Amazing burgers

We visited this establishment first in May and ate there most of our holiday in July too. Really pleasant atmosphere, dog friendly and really good menu. The staff are very attentive and pleasant which is another good reason for visiting. The food is really well cooked and presented and they have a good variety on the menu. Give it a whirl you won’t be disappointed.

Wheely Wheely Great

Spent 2 days here as we visited relatives nearby and went to see Sting at Scarborough OAT. The staff at the Oak Wheel were all so friendly and nothing was too much trouble. The room was comfortable and had everything you need for a short stay. The highlight was the meal and breakfasts we had, all fresh and made to order, the service was friendly and as I have an allergy to wheat, I felt very well looked after. 
If you’re in this area, we would recommend a stay at the Oak Wheel, we’ll be back next time we’re in the area.

Great short stay with lovely food

The Oakwheel was our last stay while walking the
Cleveland way. It was well worth the 20 minute detour. The pub was very quiet, it was a Thursday but the service, food and beer was really good. Our room was very comfortable the bathroom was a little tired but very functional. Breakfast, which was very good, started at 0830 which was a little late for us as we had a long walk to Filey Brigg  the next day but it was all ready, and came quickly so we were able to set off in good time. The staff were all very welcoming and friendly. We would stay again. 

Worth a detour off the Cleveland Way

No wonder it was quiet!
This is just a normal pub but the meals were overpriced for what they were.
We thought we'd go for a change as we usually go to the one round the corner: The one round the corner is much better value with better service and a more extensive menu.
I had the curry which was supposed to be chicken korma - it was a chopped up chicken breast in some strange sauce which tasted slightly sour. No coconut or almond flavours. The rice looked like microwave rice and the naan arrived after we had finished!
My husband had haddock and chips: the haddock was very small and tasteless, the chips weren't home made and peas were tinned. The bread and butter was an extra cost.

recent visit

We called in for a drink on Saturday night, about 8-15. It was quite busy with about 8 tables at various stages of dining so we took seats at the bar, where eventually our presence was acknowledged and we were served an excellent drink apiece. However, the pub was utterly devoid of atmosphere and with the emphasis on food, were surprised to see a lady enquiring about dining turned away at 8-40, this on a Saturday evening when the place was by no means busy. Whilst there was a good selection of alcohol on offer, there was no clientele evident to enjoy it, other than diners and or guests with accommodation.
Perhaps it's a sign of the times that the traditional village pub is dying out. 
We settled for one drink and decanted to the nearby "Jollies" which although more inviting and friendly, was devoid of customers other than a small group drinking outside.

Not a drinkers' pub

They certainly don't feature the room we were allocated at this pub on their website.  Ours was like a school dormitory complete with 1960's style woodchip wallpaper covered in emulsion paint.  After requesting a quiet room, away from traffic noise on the road when booking, (booking quickly accepted) we arrived at the earliest that they accept paying guests , 5.00pm, and were lead upstairs to what appeared to be an attempt to recreated one of those "How we used to live" museum exhibits.  I don't know where they managed to source woodchip wallpaper this century but full marks to them for the the effort involved in covering the walls and ceiling with the stuff.   The room was complete with two single beds that had seen better days, single glazed sash windows that only closed when threatened with violence and a television set so tiny and situated so cunningly that only one person may comfortably peer at it at a time.  As far as a good nights sleep was concerned, my partner and I were able to lie in bed and actually play "identify the traffic by the sound of the engine" late into the night and again from 6:00am.  The bathroom featured a large hole in the plasterboard where another toilet roll holder had been erected but the management did not feel needed filling with a bit of plaster.   The extractor fan had not see a cleaner visit it since the Jubilee, (the Silver one)  and whoever painted the bathroom door obviously either lost interest halfway or simply ran out of paint.    All this splendour came to the sum of £108.90 including breakfast which because they only unlock the breakfast area at 08:30 prompt, we had to minimize as we had appointments elsewhere.  It's a pity their pricing didn't match the period charm of the room.   We stayed at a Premier Inn the following evening and had a lovely room and full breakfast (served at 7.00am) for only £78.00
On a positive note,  the Eggs Benedict were quite excellent and served charmingly.
