We had a three night stay in The Wharncliffe as  gift from our son & daughter-in-law. Gift is a total understatement. This is an absolutely beautiful place to stay. Our room overlooked the north beach and we spent hours just basking in the stunning views. The room itself was clean, bright, comfortable and roomy. Derek & Ann have made everything safe and worry free during the Covid epidemic. The breakfast was to die for. Home made sausages where amazing and a different flavour every morning. We stayed in room 4 and would recommend it if you want a room where you can literally spend hours in front of the window being amazed by the view. Derek and Ann made our stay such a pleasurable experience. Derek is the perfect gentleman and has a wealth of interesting stories he loves to share and we where only to pleased to listen. If you want a perfect few nights away then this is the place to stay. You wont be disappointed. 

Gifted break

Arrived a little earlier than we said, which wasnt a problem. Weather howling gales all weekend but didnt stop us enjoying the weekend. The Wharncliffe is what I'd call a traditional seaside bed and breakfast, axminister carpets, lots of nik naks about the place. Derek welcomed us and let us know about the covid safety rules, breakfast booked and ordered in advance, lots of choice including unusual flavoured sausage served lovely and hot. We had room 3 which was a small double, perfectly adequate for us, with lovely views of the sea and the castle. Room was spotlessly clean, lovely big towels and lots of toiletries. The hotel itself is nicely located for the town centre and sea front. Not ideal for those with mobility issues as in a 3 storey building, not a problem for us.
Only downside is parking, not the fault of the hotel,they provide permits for on street parking, but ridiculous parking by other residents made it nigh on impossible to find a space, so once we found a space, the car stayed put!
Overall a lovely stay,very good value and we would return.

Lovely stay despite the weather

My wife and I have just returned from a great break at The Wharncliffe. The owners were very friendly and took their Covid responsibilities very seriously (even down to reducing the number of occupants staying). Our room, 4, was spacious and had great views of the castle and north bay. The room was clean and gave us a good nights sleep. The breakfasts were on a reduced menu, but not reduced quality! Derek's sausages were very tasty and well recommended.
We are looking forward to the time we can return to The Wharncliffe and would have no hesitation recommending the hotel to family and friends.

Great break

Just had a couple of days in Scarborough Ann and Derek where pleasant. The room was clean well equipped. Good breakfast good location. Was worried about being away due to Covid but they were very well organised with regard to all the precautions. 

Short break

Lovely stay at the Wharncliffe. Owners Derek and Ann were very friendly and welcoming.
Our room (No.3) was comfortable, very clean and well presented with a huge window giving fantastic views of the North Bay. Plenty of wardrobe and cupboard space and complimentary refreshments and toiletries. 
A good choice of cooked breakfast, cereals, and fruits were available. Everything was hot and tasty and freshly prepared. There were some interesting sausage flavours!
All current regulations were in place due to Covid-19. Hand sanitizer on all floors and staggered breakfast times. Notices were in place throughout the property reminding guests of the regulations.
Good value for money, would definitely recommend.

Weekend trip

We have stayed here 3 times now and had a lovely visit all three times. The owner is very friendly and rooms are pleasant with a great see view. Good walking distance from town and the sea front.

Lovely stay

We are regular visitors to Scarborough but our first and last stay here.We booked 2 rooms for a 2 night stay.The owner came over as rude to the point of being aggressive, taking over £300 from us was a great inconvenience to him. The rooms both looked and smelt unclean. My son's room didn't have a shower, no extractor fan in the bathroom and no window, he used aftershave as air freshener to cover the smell of vomit. Our bedroom was grubby, with black mould in the shower, the bedding looked old and didn't smell particularly clean. We only had breakfast on the first morning as we found it very unpleasant. The coffee was like tar, the vegetarian sausage was so over done I couldn't actually put a fork in it. We did try and get somewhere else for the second night, but unfortunately we couldn't find 2 rooms in the same hotel. We are not fussy people, but especially in the present climate, I do expect the place to be clean with a breakfast you can eat, really not sure how it's 4 stars ?

Very disappointing stay

This hotel is in a great location,overlooking North Bay. Rooms are comfy, clean and provided tea/coffee making facilities as well as complimentary toiletries. We were in room 5 which is bath only, but it even had some radox to soak in.
 Breakfast are great here, with so much choice on offer, and a game of guess the sausage, which Derek reveals after you've eaten them.
 A nice gesture is that this hotel provides free on street parking.Overall had a great stay here courtesy of Derek and Annes friendly and welcoming nature.

Warm and friendly

Very friendly and helpful as soon as we walked through the door. Room was really lovely with great views.
Breakfast was gorgeous with the added fun of guess the sausage. Location is brilliant. Will definitely stay again.

Lovely weekend 

Fantastic location with beautiful views of the Castle, North Bay and Cleveland Walks.   Derek was such a lovely chatty owner who was very knowledgable on the area.   Room (sea view) was lovely. Lots of little extras we did not expect for the price.  Breakfast was super, at least 9 fruits on offer, toast, cereal, yogurt and juices. etc.  After all that a fresh cooked full breakfast or smaller plates if you wanted.   Will defiantly book again.
