Upon arrival the warning signs should have been triggered by the smell of cannabis coming from the caravan parked in the rear forecourt. The owner met us at the B&B and as we entered the hallway we were greeted with the smell of damp dog and a dirty floor. We were shown to our room which needed updating in the 1980s.. The carpets had not been vacuumed and were dirty, there were crisp packets and other items left under the bunkbeds, which considering the thick dust had been there a while. Surfaces had not been cleaned and the shower tray was unclean with dirt and hair in the bottom. The bedding was old and not clean and smelt like it had already been slept in, with hair and stains on the sheets. The pillow cases were stained yellow and flat and the mattress was sagging. We were not prepared to stay in a room that had not been cleaned for clearly a long time and beds with sheets that were used and therefore notified the owner we were leaving. The only good point was that the owner agreed to a full refund without question. Unfortunately this ruined our plans for the rest of our weekend as we were planning to drive to Whitby the morning after but had to drive back home as there was no other availability.

Avoid

We had a lovely stay here, Zena and Andy were fab hosts, very welcoming, nothing was too much trouble, we had to leave early for an event and they did us a breakfast pack up to take with us before breakfast hours even started, good sized rooms, parking available around the back, prime location for Scarborough north bay, walking distance to seafront and in to town.

Armed forces weekend

Stayed last week for the second time this year.
But, last time was just my wife and me.
This time, my wife, me and our 2 dogs in 1 room and my daughter, her hubby, 10 month old son and their dog in another room.

Nothing to much trouble for Zena & Andy, even accommodating all of us in the beer garden for our breakfasts (doggies not allowed in the dining room) so we really appreciated not having to leave 3 dogs in the rooms and they were able to sit outside with us, besides, we had a great week of weather and was lovely sitting outside eating our full English  :)

During our stay my motorcycle was in a garage in town, come the day we were supposed to check out, collect the bike and go home I got a phone call to say there was a problem with the bike and it wouldn't be ready till late on the next day.

Zena & Andy were great, fit us in for an extra night stay, and when checkout time came helped us out tremendously, even letting us leave all the biking gear on their property with keys so we could let ourselves in when the bike was ready (eventually getting it back at 3pm in the afternoon).

Hoping to get back to Scarborough again next year, and won't hesitate to book up again at The Brunton.

Thanks again Zena & Andy, you definitely went above and beyond the call of duty.

Fantastic place for doggies

This is by far the worst place we have every booked. The room was dirty with stained sheets and pillow cases. There was dried food and dog hairs on the quilt cover. The pillows were blotched with sweat and the threadbare sheets covered a filthy mattress.
How anybody can offer this to paying guests I really don't know.
We did not stay and moved on to another hotel.

Terrible

What a fabulous hotel. The delightful owners, Andy and Zena were there for all our needs. Cosey bed, clean room on a quiet street and only a stones throw from the town. Breakfast was top notch and a lovely sea view from the back. As Tony the tiger would say 'it's grrreat!'
