Lovely stay, staff friendly, great breakfast and welcoming regulars. 

We were visiting family in the local area and went for a day into York, train was ideal, 20 minutes direct, no hassle.

We arrived back at the George for our evening meal and thoroughly enjoyed.

we stayed here 23feb had a great time the staff were fantastic even helped us download the app they are a credit to the company the room was fine and we will return in the summer thanks for a brill night selby as got alot to offer with the abbey just over the road

Check in was very easy as we arrived about 7 pm and the bar was full we had been to a family funeral and weather was really cold we had room 1 it was lovely and warm the bed was large clean and very comfy I don’t usually sleep very well ( there was a bit of noise in back yard )but slept well the breakfast was excellent plenty of coffee orange juice and beautiful soft bread I couldn’t fault anything room was a little tired but good value for money

Centrally located in a nice looking pub, with free parking at the rear. Room was nice enough with en suite and free WiFi. Shower control location is poorly placed in Room 1 as any inadvertent contact leads to shutting off the water or altering the temperature. Radiator was on full, but made the room rather uncomfortable. Turned it down to 2 - no effect. In the end, had to turn it past 0 to get it to cool down and wedge the window open all night, whilst the radiator slowly roasted us. Noise was loud from outside, from staff talking and inside from guests. Breakfast was decent.

I received a warm welcome from the staff. My double room was at the back,so although just a view of a fire escape,thought sgould be nice and quiet.Room was large,with a comfortable bed,clean bathroom. Went for a meal at nearby Capri restaurant -well recommended. Bar lively at night. Unfortunately a nearby nightclub's thudding beats could be heard until 3am,so didnt sleep well,such a shame. 
In the morning sadly the breakfast was disappinting,the sausages were dry and rock hard,no black pudding,another shame.Nice views of the abbey but furniture worn and a bit scruffy. Staff are lovely here but when visit again will try somewhere else

We stayed here for one night en route to York uni. Convenient location and much cheaper than staying in York. 
Swift check-in, directed to our room on the third floor. Very large room furnished in a basic manner. The bathroom needs updating, shower, broken, and temperamental. 
Located in town center. Free parking.  I was pleasantly surprised as there was no street noise. The beds were comfy however, the South facing room was absolutely sweltering so I got hardly any sleep.  There was a fan but inadequate for the size of the room and the number of people.
Breakfast is included and was great. Very good choice.Staff nice and friendly.  
If my son chooses to go to York uni then yes I will return, but only in the winter months. It seriously was way to hot and being on the 3rd floot meant we couldn't fully open the windows.

Genuine reviewer- avoid during s heatwave

Stayed over Saturday night,  free parking at the back of the pub, ignore £5 parking charge at meter just go in rear and register car at check in.

Allocated spacious twin room at from of pub overlooking the Crescent.
Room very clean and comfortable with usual kettle,  tea, coffee  etc.
If you want a good night's sleep,  this may not be the pub for you as there was loud music coming from a nearby venue until around 3am. 
Breakfast OK but nothing special,  disappointing no Yorkshire tea bags at breakfast even though they were available in the room  ! 

The pub is 10 seconds walk from the Abbey, the venue we had come to visit for a concert on the evening of Saturday but was unfortunately cancelled. 

Nice location but a bit noisy at night. 

Very poor service when ordering on the App at your table, 30 minutes waiting for drinks because staff didn't see the order come through on the App. 😡😡

Just got back from staying Saturday night at The George.  Nice basic accommodation but shower in triple bed room did not work and with it being so warm and muggy no windows to open and very hot in bedrooms.  The windows need to be triple glazed because of the music noise from I presume the nightclub nearby.  There was constant noise outside on the square in front of the pub all night.  Thumping music and people shouting and generally being a nuisance.  Think I got to sleep about 6 o'clock!!!  My daughter whose room was at the back also got no sleep.  People should be warned about this when they book.  We enjoyed wandering about Selby and seeing inside the Abbey.

We visited Selby to see family and booked into The George Inn for one night.  This is a lovely pub, friendly, great atmosphere and a lovely garden to sit in, with nice music.  The room was very clean and comfortable.  It was the hottest day of the year so far when we visited, so were worried about being exceptionally hot during the night.  However, there was a tower fan in the room which was extremely efficient and kept us cool.  Breakfast was very good, I had the full English but you need to be a big eater to eat that, plenty of it.  This place is great value for money. All in all, a lovely place to stay and we will definitely stay again
