We loved this hotel, it looked fairly unassuming from the outside but there was plenty of secure parking beautifully decorated interior and an amazing breakfast. The service was 5 star. The Mayfair situated in a wonderful location, perfect for Shanklin Esplande. We could not fault it and we will definitely recommend.

Short break

Rubbish. They've no idea how to run a British B&B. Weird atmosphere, not welcoming. The lady was a bit friendlier on the 2nd day. Kettle in room didn't work, so no tea. No lifts, awful if you've got mobility problems, so many stairs. Very good beach, which was the ONLY positive.

Excellent hotel.
We found the family running the hotel very welcoming and very pleasant. Which is just what you need to begin a nice relaxing break. Nothing was too much bother for them.
The room we booked had fantastic uninterrupted sea views from two large windows. It was very clean, had a very comfortable bed, the bathroom was a fair size with a very powerful shower. 
Short walk from transport connections and regular bus services to Godshill, Ventnor, Newport etc if you did want to venture out of Shanklin for a few hours but saying that, we found Shanklin esplanade to have excellent places to eat and relax plus good shops and pubs in the main town. All in all  a fantastic break and could not have asked for better weather either resulting in a very memorable time and for all the right reasons!
We will definitely be returning.

Fantastic experience.

The Mayfair is lovely family run hotel. The hotel itself is very clean and welcoming. Our sea view room was very good and it had everything we needed including a very comfortable bed. We were made very welcome by all the staff. Lovely breakfast with lots of choice for everyone. All in all a great place to stay. We thoroughly  enjoyed our stay and would recommend this hotel.

Super break at The Mayfair hotel.

Our Family were in Isle of White on 1st week of September for a few days. We booked this Hotel/Bed and Breakfast.

As soon as we arrived, we were checked in given keys for our rooms. One of Rooms had a fantastic see view, it was lovely, all the rooms were very nicely cleaned and welcoming. 

We found out that it was a family run Hotel/Bed and Breakfast, breakfast was very nice every morning and well attended.

Our Family have enjoyed the stay and certainly will be staying there again if we were to be around the area again in the future.

For the price they offer, its a great value and we recommend this place to be tried once if one has not stayed there before.

Lovely!!!

The hotel is right on top of Shanklin beach and a short walk down to the actual beach. It has ample free parking. We booked a room for 3 of us, two adults, 1 grandson. The room was quite large but the bed we uncomfy. The mattress was well past it's sell by date, the duvet didn't fit the cover and the sheets weren't clean. We had our grandson on the go for well over 12 hours so needed to get him to sleep rather than complain as we only had one night. When we got dressed the next day we found an old lolly stick and a used plaster at the end of our bed, not nice at all. 

Nice location for Shanklin but would look for somewhere else

The hotel’s location is perfect - right on the cliffs with beautiful sea views - and our rooms were clean, bright and comfortable. They seemed to have been refurbished recently - just a pity that rust on radiators, rusty holders for the soap and shampoo and the old, fixed shower head had not been replaced. 
Corridors and stairways were also clean and looked freshly painted. There are a lot of stairs and no lifts, but the hotel does warn you about this in advance.
One of the public areas was closed for refurbishment while we were there, so there was only one large, soulless dining room/lounge area and you had to order drinks from reception (when there was someone there). We decided against taking breakfast at the hotel - there is a lovely little beach café five minutes’ walk away.
There is a reasonably sized car park and a scrubby grass area outside - the whole area could do with a bit of love and attention to make the most of the hotel’s location.
We saw very little of members of staff - suspect it was just the owner and her son, neither of whom was particularly warm or welcoming. The young man said he would book us a taxi to Ryde to connect with the ferry, but we never saw him again, and received no message from him. Luckily, we had not relied on him and had left time to take the bus!
I appreciate that the hotel was nearly empty while we were there, so was lacking in atmosphere and it must be difficult for staff to feel motivated. We wanted clean, safe, comfortable accommodation and that is what we got.

Clean and comfortable budget hotel

Not satisfied with the layout, service or facilities. A family room with a baby and we were put on the top floor through a maze of stairs. reception service is not welcoming. The rooms are limited in basic things such as tissues, a plug, a phone (so can’t call reception), the size of duvet is smaller than the bed. There’s a poor attempt to make some things a bit ‘nicer’ but it seems they can’t be bothered to spend the money to do it properly. If staff were friendlier or more helpful it would have made these small things more overlooked. Spend the same money elsewhere.

Give it a miss

This hotel does not deserve its low rating.. The place is spotlessly clean and the management are helpful and eager to please. Even cleaned the seagull mess off my car without being asked. What service!  However tea and coffee is an extra charge at breakfast, not usual, and perhaps should be reviewed. Great position with good access.

Underrated hotel

Stayed here about 7 years ago. Walls damp, room no lock, bogeys on the pillow, chips under the bed, watch got nicked, bar closed and a strange bloke came in my room at night and left a cake. 5 Stars👍🏼
