During a recent visit to Shrewsbury, we once again had to call in and sample the food and ales.

We both had gourmet burgers. 

Well worth the price, and we did not wait long to have our food 

A range of good beers at a very good price.

So this is just a review of the pub, not the accommodation - another standard JDW, this one an actual pub beforehand: very large bar, split into 2 sections, which can cause confusion as it’s never clear which part is operational. Beer choice is not bad, quality is average to good as far as cask ales are concerned, pricing very competitive and the food menu ticks many boxes, just maybe not the top quality one. But if you’re coming here, you’re not expecting haute cuisine or cute pub vibes, so don’t be surprised it’s neither of those

Pub Review

Stayed in a twin room which had a lovely view of the theatre and river, room was very spacious and clean. Beds were very comfortable and both of us slept really well. I knew that there is a pub underneath but we didn't hear anything, the most noise came from the racer car exhausts that went by during the night. Parking wise I used the multistorey which was only £10 for overnight parking and a 5 minute walk away from hotel. Would stay again!

One night stayover with Niece

Great experience, hotel cheap and cheerful. Rooms spacious and clean. 

There was a club of some sort at the back of the hotel which was playing loud music till early hours but l did manage to get back to sleep. Maybe not a good choice if you’re a light sleeper. 

I would stay again. Great location not far from the station.

Cheap and cheerful, very clean

A group of 7 frequented your establishment . Very good bar staff tbf. Orders taken .. can't fault . Food 0 out of 10 for most . 

I can only comment on my own meal, so I will.  Gourmet  sirloin steak . Thought I would do extras , just in case small amounts of meal. Extras included chips , onion rings and mushrooms.  2 fat mushrooms full of grease and past their sell by date . 
Any way back to the meal . # how do you want it .  #steak
#medium. How did I receive it . ??  The mind boggles,  first and foremost,  the taste was not of a sirloin,  I know my stuff as that's all I eat . ...not medium,  not sirloin by my palette. .  Full of sinues,  no edge of  fat .. as per .. I don't mind that, but it didn't taste any kind of meat I had tasted , in fact,  left most of it . Chips cold , re heated looked burnt as did the extras . . The only thing edible were the 
onion rings .. as were cooked correctly . All in all for the extras I paid and the 19.53 price tag . I was robbed of at least £17. Would I ever have a meal in this establishment again .. hell No !
I would rather pay higher prices and you employ a chef that can cook.  
As it goes I've been charged twice via pending , if it gets taken out of my bank .. I expect a refund and some.  

Drinks were extra  obviously but £4.50 for a bacardi shot when a bottle  is  approx £15.. # 17 shots . 
I think your relying on visitors . If i was a local I would steer well clear . 
# total rip off for food that was only fit for the bin .

# your going to lose money hand over fist as your ill equipped and sell stuff especially food , well below parr.   I wouldn't have given my meal to my dog.

Fit for the bin

Good hotel,clean,service was great from check in until we left, we stayed 2 nights Friday/Saturday,  location is spot on for the town of Shrewsbury, car parks close by, good price, hotel is a weatherspoons so never far from a good deal on food and drinks, would recommend

What a cracker

When I went to the Shrewsbury hotel for some lunch I ordered via the app. 
Food was served quickly however some of my order was missed which I had to tell a member of staff. As I was eating my food I saw a mouse/rat (quiet big) run from under the coffee bar towards the bar and where the dishes are stacked on a trolley. 

I alerted the staff to warn them - and he said he would “sort it”. I was about taken a back how there was no apology. Or nothing really he just informed me that pesk control were contacted. I had only started eating when I saw it and I refused to touch anything after. 

So I payed and left the without an apology for my food being forgotten about and a rat/mouse  around food. 

Mouse or rat

Stayed here recently for 1 night with friends for a night out. Room was spacious and clean with everything needed. Location was also excellent for centre of Shrewsbury. Bar was very busy but to be expected on a hot Saturday afternoon. Would definitely stay again if visiting friends in Shrewsbury.

Good value and location

Worst service ever waiting for two drinks for more than half an hour excuse sorry we are really busy . Ordered online noone even approached us to say this was the case .  If you want to order online at this establishment then don't.  You would be quicker going somewhere else .
