I'm not one for doing reviews but this is a must because WOODLANDS is the most WONDERFUL place to stay. Spotless bedlinen, good mattresses, fresh tasty well cooked food that is cooked for you, it's not  waiting for you! evening meals & breakfast, overlooking the garden through the tall arched windows
We & our dog were made most welcome. Location perfect, Park to the left, few min walk, beach front to the right approximately ten min, as one comes out through the traditional front door. Parking on site. Fabulously decorated for Christmas ( Dan & Megan also sell pine Christmas trees)

We were very happy with our stay and would be happy to stay there again. The staff are so polite and helpful. The rooms are spacious, stylish well decorated and so clean. The ensuite again was spacious and very clean. Our breakfast and service was great, good choice, prompty served by cheerful staff.All public area including the bar exceeded our expectaions.

Lovely hotel 

Would recommend this hotel.  The owners very friendly and helpful.. We received a warm welcome from Dan  ,Our standard double room was very clean and comfortable with a large bed and two very comfortable chairs.  Good choice of cereals, fruit and yoghurts for breakfast. .Freshly cooked English breakfast, well presented. Three course evening meal, pre ordered  at  breakfast, was well cooked and delicious. All areas spotlessly clean. .Ample Car parking.  A short walk to seafront and in to town.  



Friendly hotel

Great hotel perfect for our requirements,
All the rooms we stayed in were spotless clean. The large communal seating room with a honesty bar was light airy and again spotless. The owners  were very helpful and friendly. The breakfasts had good choices and to a high standard.
The hotel also benefits from a large car park and in a good position for both the seafront and the shops. 


Great place spotless and in a good location

An interesting history to this building that has rather cramped  corridors and (sometimes noisy), rooms in the extension. The hosts are welcoming and rightly proud of their property, with a continuing programme of improvements that are evident to guests, (we had a very new and super clean bathroom). 
The evening menu on offer is understandably limited, and the town restaurants offer a considerable challenge: not so however the breakfast menu which is excellent and efficiently served by the hosts and other colleagues. It was nice to find kippers available, and the cereal, fruit and yoghurt selection is great. 
The hotel offers an honesty bar and a fabulous garden for all to enjoy.

An Historic Property

We had a fabulous few days here. A lovely room, great breakfast, comfortable lounge and bar area and the most helpful and friendly staff. We will definitely stay there again if we are nearby. In fact we are trying to think of a reason to go back to Devon just so that we can!

Wonderfully friendly staff and a great hotel

Woodlands were our chosen venue to provide refreshments for family and friends after a November funeral. We were able to use their conservatory which was a pleasant, light, warm informal space,  leading out onto a lovely and surprising garden area with seating. The staff had a real and sympathetic knowledge of how to provide for such  an occasion.  Our only concern was limited parking, but as it is only 10 minutes walk to Sidmouth centre and seaside  car parks, it was no problem. Woodlands had electric charging parking spaces at the hotel too.  The refreshments were just right,  plentiful and delicious with gluten free or dairy free options. We didn't  stay overnight but would thoroughly recommend Woodlands for this kind of event and would like to thank the lovely team of kind and friendly staff.

Excellent for gathering and refreshments

This is a charming hotel very central to Sidmouth. We were given a very friendly and informative introduction to the place on arrival and all the information we could need about facilities, breakfast (which was excellent) and evening meal (which we didn't try having made other plans). We had small but well equipped rooms - perhaps a bit noisy but being centre of town a bit of traffic noise is to be expected. Certainly no complaints about this place and we will most certainly return. 

Good, central hotel 

We stayed for six nights and had breakfast and dinner everyday. Megan and Dan are very welcoming and their staff are great. 

The rooms we stayed in were cleaned everyday, very comfortable and decorated beautifully. The woodlands is a beautiful hotel to stay in. It's a great location especially if you are taking a dog. The sea front is no more than 15 minutes walk and the town the same. There is also the byes also only 15 minutes away great to take the dog or family. Finally the Knowle is 5 minutes away for a quick morning walk for the the dog. 

The food was great and had a lovely choice everyday. Full English or variation available in the morning or cereal, porridge, fruit, yoghurts etc. The evening meals were a highlight. I could have happily had two or three of the options every night.

What do you need in a hotel ? The Woodlands is a 700 year old historic building that is welcoming, spotlessly clean, nicely decorated with excellent breakfasts and comfy beds, I think that just about covers most peoples needs. A comfy 10 minute walk down to the seafront this hotel ticks all the boxes for a stay In Sidmouth, thanks Dan and Meghan for making our short break so enjoyable.
