Similar reviews to others - at first the room (room 17) was nice and very large. But the mould was so bad in the bathroom that the shower sealant had lifted away showing the fungus beneath. The bed was comfy but very thin duvet. The room seemed clean but the floor was unswept. We moved a chair and there was mouse dropping on the floor! 

The balcony was a lovely bonus, but the ashtray full of cigarettes left on it, mixed with rain water, was disgusting.

We arrived by train and headed straight over thinking we could leave our bags but there was no staff member in the building, not even a phone number on the door to call, I had to Google it! We’d booked three rooms and were allowed entry to two of them at 2.45 (check-in at 3), we gave up waiting on the third and checked in around 5ish. 

We soon realised that the place was lived in by many single men (semi-permanently), and when we returned to our room at 10pm, the entire first floor stank of cannabis and we felt uncomfortable reporting it in case they knew it was us and caused problems. 

In short, £57 for an ocean view double room seems like a bargain. But there are many lovely little places in Skegness to stay that are much better.

Not worth it

At first the hotel looked fine, but on closer inspection the room was dirty. The towels had stains, the walls were filthy. We had black feet from the wooden flooring. It was so noisy at night, people screaming, shouting, banging until around 7am. I could hear a couple above me having sexual intercourse very loudly. I got no sleep at all, there was people going in and out all night. It was boiling hot in the room and the ceiling fan was faulty. The shower didn't get hot, it was permanently cold. The shampoo made my hair like a bird nest. we left way before check out. I really don’t recommend staying here at all. There was also no staff to be seen, the desk had a sign that said “be back soon” our whole stay.

Terrible

The Grand Hotel Skegness is definitely not grand. When we arrived, we were asked to enter through the back door, we were told where our room was, and we let ourselves in, out side our room was dirty black carpet broken wall, it looked.like someone had kicked the wall , we went to make a cup of tea to find so much scale at the bottom of the kettle it could not be used, there was stains on the wall, went to complain no one around, entrance to the back was a trip hazard, got home complained to the hotel, payman who owns the hotel and buyagift who we purchased from, no one wanted to know, even though the bad reviews and pictures that guests have taken were clear to see, well this not so grand hotel will not be seeing us again.


Just look at reviews and guests' pictures to make your mind up.

This hotel management is diabolical they have an age restriction which is not clearly advertised.  When you deal with Payman Club who manage their reservations they pretend to be the managers are obnoxious and rude beyond belief my whole dealing with them has been unreal and frustrating to say the least!

Don't Go!

Worst place I have ever stopped in, dirty room, carpet ,kettle, shower  rubbish on landing, the whole two days was awful, had to go out back to exit the building, which was a big trip hazard, I would not take my dog to this place, it was really bad x

Never again

If I could rate this a zero I would ! We checked in After a long day of travelling to be told about a £50 deposit (for a one night stay is ridiculous ) finally check in and that was the last we saw of any meme we of staff ! 

An fire alarm went off at 3:30 am , basically guests had to fend for them self’s as no members of staff on call or in building 
We had to ring the fire brigade ourselves  after waiting an hour and a half and constantly ringing the company number ! 
No one turned up to check if we was safe luckily, there was no fire or injury THIS TIME 
The room fairly clean but the duvet was non existent , i slept in a jumper 
This was cheap and cheerful but for even cheap it wasn’t worth the sleepless night and hassle 
Basically the guests run the hotel themselves , you can wander the whole place , with no one to stop you no security nothing ! 

Please avoid at all cost

If I could rate it zero I would

We had 3 rooms booked for the bank holiday at the end of August. I had read some negative reviews after the booking was made which was a mistake, should have read before ! When we arrived there was no one there to book us in. My sons partner, who made the original booking, phoned a number she had and was told it was a self check in. The person she spoke to said this had never happened before ! She  was then told  that we would have to pay a further £50 per room before they would give us the entry code ! At this point I spoke with whoever was on the phone. They told me it was a "security deposit" that it was for any damage we caused. I asked how they would check any damage that was already there but he could not/would not answer. We were told that a payment link would be sent but when it came it didn't work. After further calls we decided to give it up as a bad joke and found alternative accommodation at North Shore golf course, which I would recommend ! My sons partner has also contacted Booking.com, however they were not interested, saying it was a matter between us and the hotel. In my humble opinion it's places like this that put people off spending their hard earnt cash in places like Skegness.

Never again ! What a joke !

We visited Skegness in August and stayed at The Grand Hotel, which has an excellent location near to the beach and arcades. When we arrived, we went to check in at 3pm to find no-one at the reception desk and several room keys left unattended. At around ten past 3 a harassed receptionist arrived to tell the assembled guests that no rooms had been cleaned and we would have to come back in a couple of hours, which wasn't ideal, to say the least.

When we finally received our suite, we were reminded of the chateau at Versailles - large, well-appointed and grandiose at a first glance, if you overlook the fact that half of the rooms are derelict and it was ransacked by peasants in the 18th century. There was no working shower in our suite of rooms (the 'family room') and several of the blinds were damaged. There was also pipework from a previous boiler installation still in one of the rooms, complete with valves, so we couldn't let our 3-year-old daughter run loose in there.

Despite these setbacks, I've given the place 3 stars because it's cheap and cheerful and - to his credit - the receptionist did his best to make sure things were made right, so has earned at least 2 of the stars back. We had access to a vacant room so we could use their shower, and he helped the cleaner with the rooms so the wait wasn't too long. Although we were inconvenienced, we did get a partial refund from the booking company. It's probably worth giving them another chance once the decorators come back and finish!

Large suite but lacking polish - good receptionist though!

Intro: Overall upon the start of the day wasn't great, met a couple who had paid extra to book in early only to be told they still had to come back at standard check in time, we had to go through the back to the reception, where we was greeted by a young lad Tristan, cant fault him throughout my experience at this hell hole, from checking in the experience was so unprofessional, the computer used for checking in was positioned in a way my personal details in relation to my booking could be seen by anyone stood at the reception desk or at the back door, Breaching GDPR Regulations, I was then checked in provided 3 keys to my room which was ROOM 20, before heading upstairs to my room I pointed out to Tristan that his Employers Liability Certificate was 4 months out of date however still on display, i then proceeded up to my room walked in and there was dust in the corners bits of paper rubbish under the bed units, Pre Warning the photos of the property and the room are not true TIME STAMPED PHOTOS BELOW, anyway

Room 20: Upon walking in the room hadn't been hovered, the shower had stains at the bottom of it, the Lock on the balcony door was broken and the child lock attached to it was snapped clean off, the bed post on the corner was broken and the middle slat running down the middle had caved in, it was nothing like the picture on their website, went down stairs to complain to Tristan as I paid a £50GBP Damage deposit for this room and I wasn't being held accountable for this and was told by Tristan that the Bed has been broken for weeks and that they had no maintenance guy working there, so I asked for a different room to be told there was not anymore rooms available, he then was messaging the office to see what could be done as the bed was a safety risk and was not safe at all, I ended up staying awake the entire night as it wasn't safe, after numerous messages from Tristan to his office I called them ands they offered me a 5% refund which was an Insult  I wanted my Damage Deposit Returned which they said they takes 14 days which is absurd, numerous calls and email Monica who works in the office was continuously trying to offer me 5% then she returned with a proposal of if the Cleaner comes round and fixes the bed then she would give me 5% refund or if not they will provide a 50% refund which i agreed to, i then returned at 8pm to find the cleaner waiting with a drill and screws, they spent 60 mins fixing the bed to only make it worse and wrapped yellow hazard tape round it the bed still wasn't fixed and then Monica denied saying she didn't offer 50 percent refund, this company is so unprofessional right down to advertising the rooms best part of the stay was the helpful lad who did everything he possibly could, 

Exit:  So last morning upon checking out even though there is supposed to be a Reception desk either manned or at least secure, which i must point out is open and not secure leaving anyone access to Documents containing banking information and receipts aswel as a computer with personal details on, there is a note on the desk saying Please leave keys on the side upon checking out, this is unprofessional as to what's stopping anyone picking the keys and what reassurance have you got that the keys are secure leaving them on the side.

Overall: this Hotel is Terrible, the best part was the service from Tristan the room itself was Unsafe ill be contacting East Lindsay Council aswel as Trading Standards as the support i got over the phone from Monica as well as the insulting refunds was diabolical, DO NOT STAY HERE, THIS PLACE RUINED MY ANNIVERSARY & CAUSED NO END OF STRESS

RUINED MY ANNIVERSARY, UNSAFE ROOM

We were skeptical when booking as there were lots of poor reviews recently -  they all turned out to be pretty accurate. 

We were off to a bad start from the moment we walked through the door. The entrance was full of unhappy couples and families waiting to check in when we arrived. We chose to check in between 3-4pm and had read there could be extra charges if we were late, so made sure we were on time. Other customers did the same, but when one tried to check in, the member of staff apologised for their room not having been cleaned yet and couldn’t say when it would be ready as he was the only person working. Other customers were given their keys, but when they went to see the room, theirs also wasn’t cleaned. We actually felt sorry for the member of staff that had clearly been left alone and responsible for cleaning the hotel and checking guests in, knowing their rooms weren’t ready. 

Luckily, another member of staff appeared and checked us in quite quickly after the chaos with other people’s rooms. I went to check the room and thankfully it was clean. At a quick glance, the room was clean, tidy and suitable for our one night stay.

One of the other things that we would’ve complained about was that we had no towels in the room. We were also very disappointed with the water pressure in the showers, that was just a little trickle from the shower head.

We always didn’t realise that our main light didn’t actually work until we returned to the room later on and it was dark outside. This wasn’t ideal and knew it couldn’t be fixed at that time in the evening.

We were unable to share our feedback on checkout as there wasn’t a member of staff in sight.

Overall it’s a very basic hotel, that has a lot of problems with staffing and maintenance. We won’t be returning.
