Good hotel really tired needs lots of attention to bring it back up to a decent standard 
Food was nice though, it’s such a shame it’s a beautiful old building that’s been neglected 
Must do more to bring it up to date  and make it more comfortable for paying guest

Just ok

I had a lovely time on holiday late last year on a 4 night coach holiday. My mobility is not good so I took a class 1  mobility scooter, and was a bit worried about leaving it outside/where to charge the battery, as scooters are not allowed in the lift. I need not have worried. There is a small hallway  just in the main entrance with 2 power points for charging scooters, but best to ask first if you are taking one. All of the staff were lovely and answered any questions I had. The food, well it wasn't the best but I was very impressed with the self service breakfast buffet. On the last night we all treated ourselves to an evening meal at their restaurant, and that meal was outstanding and for the sake on an extra £22 was well worth the money. I paid a very small single supplement and expected a tiny room overlooking the car park, but I was given a large double room over looking the sea, beautiful. The furniture and carpets were a little worn in many area's of the hotel, but I am sure that they will be refreshed shortly. Overall a very nice stay and I will be back in the future. If you wanted to hire a mobility scooter for the day the hotel will give you a local number.

lovely hotel

We were booked in for 2 nights for a family event. In our first room the TV blew up. took out the electricity and we needed to change rooms. These things happen and the night watch man was amazing, he is a credit to the hotel. Then we went to make a drink and noticed the colour of the water from the kettle, it was disgusting. I went to complain and the receptionist said the manager would come and find me that afternoon - he didn't. When I checked out and asked the same receptionist why the manager didn't come and talk to us she claimed it was my fault! She was rude, she was offensive, she  lied and several guests overheard this. The thing is the hotel is very tired and it needs a lot of refurb but the food really is excellent and if you exclude the Rottweiler on reception the rest of the staff really try hard.  The location is beautiful, lots of parking, great lounge and you can see in Victoria time this place was a real gem.  The food is absolutely exceptional.

We booked in for one night (Saturday) for a family birthday party.  The hotel desperately needs cleaning, horrendous cobwebs and wall paper hanging off the walls in the dining room.  Rooms were not clean with signs of mould/disrepair. However, that is nothing compared to the rudeness of the receptionist.  We witnessed a couple politely complaining about severe issues, she was very rude indeed. We didn't dare go to talk to her about the lack of hot water in our room! This place desperately needs a complete refurb,

Clean room, sheets were nice  Shower was small and hot water plentiful. If anything the room was slightly hot for us. But we opened the windows.

Hotel staff were so helpful and friendly. Especially Jon and Gavin.    Plus Louise in Dining room.

New Years Eve was amazing Johnny Lodge had everyone dancing. He is an asset to the hotel.    

Food was really good especially New Years Eve they pulled all the stops out.

One elderly man guest was being an absolute idiot before the evening started and he was swapping all the table names around for the entertainment.  But Jon soon put a stop to his antics.   

Overall we had a lovely time. And the rain stopped so we could go out for a walk.    

We would like to return.   

Fantastic New Year break 

We arrived at The Royal with a little trepidation considering some reviews on here but we were really pleasantly surprised.  The hotel is old world beautiful  with high ceilings and beautiful chandeliers everywhere.  We stayed in room 401 and it was lovely. It was a main room with a large double bed and then it had been knocked into the next room to encorporate two single beds. The room was lovely and and clean and the beds were extremely comfy. The food was of really good quality and there was always something to cater for everyone. The staff are extremely friendly and they really are happy to help. The breakfast is self service but again really good quality. Don't get me wrong The hotel is tired in places but it doesn't take away from the overall beauty and peacefulness of it. I would recommend booking. We will be back 

Great first time experience

As someone who has worked in modern hotels as a manager for many years, I do love an old-style hotel with a bit of character. We certainly had that, the décor is very old-fashioned and it is lovely. 
I loved the creepy vibe on some of the corridors, like the shining..minus the horror. 
The garden is well-kept and a lovely place to sit and relax. 
Our room was a twin, it was small but that was fine. 
The staff was lovely, I am not good with names but I remember Gavin, he was very helpful and welcoming. 
The young man who worked in the bar in the evening was very helpful and polite. 
This trip was with my mother and auntie, I am going to return with my husband next summer. 

Pleasant stay :)

Arrived at the Royal Hotel as part of a coach holiday, a fairly large place. Coach access is to the rear of the building and has a few steps up to reception (there is a lift that can be used) .
Reception is spacious enough for the purpose. Directly opposite reception desk is a comfortable lounge/bar (board games/ cards available if you want), this then leads into the entertainment room.
Situated behind reception are the dining rooms, these are well set out. Breakfast is buffet service, as much or as little as you want! Evening meal is waiter service. Waiting staff are attentive and meals were of really good quality.
Also on the ground floor they have a games room, with Pool table and a dart board.
Can only comment on our room (a double on the lower ground floor) not very spacious but big enough for the purpose, the bed was comfortable. Ensuite was challenging but manageable (water took a while to run hot) decor was tired but clean enough.
On the whole not a bad hotel (just needs a little bit of love and affection).
Staff are pleasant.
We would certainly visit here again.

Our First Time in Skegness

Needs updating in places the balcony needed a good clean had small maintenance issues inside room!  wall socket slightly loose and so was toilet seat.  
My family members bathroom smelt of sewage in the morning but we was only staying for one night so didn't complain while there but put it on the review form in hotel so hopefully this will be sorted. 
Staff very friendly and helpful. 
Had an issue at breakfast when room number was not on the list but the staff member on duty managed to sort this and apologised and was really friendly. 
We had a snack in the bar in the evening lovely food and the staff member behind the bar went above and beyond I actually felt sorry for him cause he was under pressure not only serving but cleaning tables taking food orders he even came upstairs to bring a remote up that was missing from family members room! 
Maybe more staff to help in the evening  especially during bar snack service would be good. 

Needs some updating 

Do not take the basement room. Its a disgrace, dirty towels strong smell of sewerage  and leaking pipe outside  by the so called window. If we had been staying longer than 1 night we would have left, complained but simply told hotel was full. No apology or offer to come and see and smell room for themselves. Never again!!!!
