Room was fine, and clean. Breakfast good and the garden and view was lovely
The bed however was extremely uncomfortable and really hard!
Located a few miles outside Whitby and not walking distance to Abbey.

Short break

The customer service at the hotel is poor - everything seems to be arranged to suit the owner / manager rather than the paying guests. That might not be such a problem in a hostel or cheap B&B but this place is relatively expensive and tries to pass itself off as being a bit special. 

The rooms are a good size, are clean and there is a large car park which is very convenient. 

The breakfasts are average.

Poor customer service

Writing this review on behalf of my parents.

The experience with the Netherby House Hotel was poor, compounded by a manager / Owner who does not follow up properly on customer complaints and portrays his hotel in a poor light.

We booked a ground floor room (as this was stated in the advert) for a 3 night stay.  
Upon arrival at the hotel there was no record of the booking.  We were informed that the manager had "forgotten" to put the booking on their system.  Not a great start.  A room was found for the first night, however this involved a number of stairs which caused problems for my parents; both are disabled and my mother has sight issues. 

Thankfully my parents were move into a ground floor room for the following 2 nights.   At some point on the 2nd day my parents discussed the issue with the night receptionist.  They were told that they should have phoned up to confirm the booking! – The fact that this was booked on the internet, and confirmation subsequently received is more than adequate confirmation!  

It also lists on all the booking sites that the hotel has a restaurant - it does not.  When I complained, the manager stated that this was down to the booking sites and not the hotel!

I sent an E-Mail of complaint which took over a week to get a response to; it was a poor, rushed response and didn't address any of the complaint.  I sent a follow up response and have had no reply 2 weeks later. This is poor and shows how the manager truly values his customers. 

Hotel - Feedback from my parents was that it was clean enough but very dated and in need of modernisation.  Breakfast is included in the cost but was not of a good quality.

Mediocre hotel and poor management

We stayed at Netherby House for the weekend 15th September, booking in was easy and friendly. We had a room on the ground floor looking out on the magnificent scenery and found time to explore the beautiful grounds. What stands out with this property is the cleanliness everywhere is immaculate.

Very Clean Accomadation

Location excellent, view from the bottom of the garden breathtaking, three miles from Whitby, gave us peace and quiet with just a short taxi ride to the hustle and bustle of Whitby, we had a separate chalet type room that was comfortable and well equipped. Breakfast was cooked to order and adequate. Lovely place to stay.

One night stay

Very friendly B&B that suited us fine. There is a good pub in the village and pleanty of local restaurants for during the day.. Comfortable, clean room and friendly staff. Very quiet at noght and good viewas over the moors from the garden
