This is a run-down hotel being run further down.
Reception was by telephone, it was a trek to find the room in the rabbit-warren like layout, facilities in the bathroom did not inspire confidence as the lighting was abysmal, heating was by a single oil-filled radiator and lighting was again poor. No chair in the room meant the 'desk' area was pretty pointless, the bedding wouldn't have been seen in a Charity Shop and the room smelled of stale cigarette smoke.
No catering in the building but at least there was a pub nearby (The Travellers Rest) but they don't do food every evening!
When I asked for a receipt (surprise on the face of 'the staff') I got a pencil written receipt on a torn-off piece of paper.
Never again!

Don't stay here unless you're desperate

Very gothic. Great service. Checked in. Manageress carried my suitcase upstairs for me despite my protestations. Found out that I'd left my phone charger and EU/UK adaptor in my previous residence. Rang down asking if they had any they could lend me and the manageress was at the door a few minutes later with both. You don't get that in many five star hotels. Took a bag of washing down at 6 pm to see if they could do it and they said, "Of course, do you need it back tonight?"
Also, room had a big bath which was great after a day's training in a lifeboat on the Solent in February. Also, very, very cheap!

two week stay while at marine school

Worst hotel I’ve ever stayed in the place is a complete dump and gets used as a hostel the place stinks of drugs and seen rats around the kitchen area (outside though) the owner keeps offering extras to males for extra price she is a female which I think is really inappropriate stay away at all costs

My partner and I stayed here one night and the room was very clean with bright/big windows. The hotel itself does need a bit of decor update, but this in no way reflects the quality of our stay, and the owners were lovely. 

We walked from Hythe, an easy ~30min walk, and also walked from the hotel to the new forest—about 40mins. Ideal location if you are avid walkers like us, with an amazing pub called the Travelers Rest just 5min walk away. 

We got the room for a very affordable price, and would stay there again. As another review said, the shower was very low pressure with not so good drainage, but as we were only there 1 night this did not bother us.

Perfect for the Price

Place appears to have been a nice hotel once, but is now in desperate need of renovation. The whole place had a smell of ‘old/damp’ furthering the need for some serious renovations from the front door through to the bedrooms. Beds were uncomfortable and clearly very old. No restaurant or bar available for food or drinks all weekend which was disappointing. However it was as clean as it could be considering and was cheap. Ultimately you get what you pay for, I would not stay again.

Dated and in need of renovation but cheap

You wouldn't expect any frills at a two-starred hotel but, for the Fountain Court Hotel, two stars is exceedingly generous. I'm not entirely sure how this place continues to operate as a hotel and you couldn't pay me to stay there. I checked in and then checked back out. 

Upon arriving, the grounds looked like it needs some TLC and once inside, you get the impression that the place hasn't been decorated since it opened in the 1970s. At the reception area, the back wall is covered in a criss-cross of various cables and wires that appear to come from the stairs above. Poor start. 

Check-in time isn't until 4pm as apparently they only currently have one cleaner on duty however, we were allowed to check in a bit earlier. I was shown to my room which was dark and smelled stale. Flies were collecting at the window, all the furniture was dated and lighting too dim. The first course of action was to crack open the window to air the place out. 

Upon closer inspection, the wallpaper was scuffed and starting to lift away from the walls where affected by damp. Light shades were dusty and covered in cobwebs, the top of the wardrobe was caked in dust and TV cabinet had a blob of melted chocolate stuck to it... I wonder how long that'd been there. 

BUT WAIT... hang on a moment... was that a blood stain on the bottom of the bed!? There seemed to be more blood stains on the bedding and on the wall... that's slightly terrifying. Most things in the room (bedding, chairs, carpet, walls) appeared to be stained with something or another. 

I went back down to reception and kindly told them that it's the worst room I've ever been given. I was shown to a couple of other rooms, none of which were suitable. I've stayed in 8-bed hostel dorms far cleaner and more comfortable than the rooms at the Fountain Court Hotel. Unable to stomach a night there, I left as quickly as I could.

Dated decor, filth and blood stains.

This establishment appears to being run as a hostel for refugees/the homeless. Anyone familiar with 1970’s student life in run down accommodation will enjoy a jolt from the past here. The decor, is totally worn out, along with several trailing electrical cables across walls and floors. I’m  quite amazed that any advert describing this as a hotel is currently allowed to be listed. We booked as my partner is from the area, has family nearby, knew the hotel well back in the day and thought that it might be a little ‘faded’. We checked in, laughed and then checked out. We’ve travelled the World, stayed in hundreds of hotels ranging from 5* to huts in the far flung corners of Asia and this is by very, very far the worst. On a plus side, the lady in charge was extremely friendly!

Decrepitude in a Grand Scale

The food was really good and I honestly cant wait to go back for round two. I am very fussy with food and I would not go back if I didnt think any part of the meal was not up to standard.
The management are lovely people and very involved in the experience and do their upmost to make you meal and time there very easy, laid back and comfortable. The chief..... well what he does to his roast potatoes and mash I dont know, but I want to. They are probably the best I've tasted.

Hotel needs dragging into 2020, kicking and screaming and to be more effectively run. It honestly makes me want to get my hands on it because I know I could get it up to standard and make the business work.
(Call me if you want a manager and a chance to make real money and have happy customers)

We went for food not the hotel

We were one of the first to try out last month their new carvery and what a treat it was!
Three meats were all succulent tender and the entire meal was such a treat!
The roast potatoes were crispy yet fluffy inside, the vegetables all steaming hot and the gravy divine.
We have already put our names down for the Christmas Day 3 course dinner there and it will be a first for me not cooking at home, i cant wait!
The new owners of the pub/carvery are really warm inviting people too,so friendly and easy to chat too
well well done, THE FOUNTAIN.

THE NEW CARVERY IS EXCELLENT AND GOING THERE FOR CHRISMAS DAY DINNER

We are at the fountain now and have experienced a tasty carvery, good portions, and the girls working here are very pleasant, would defo recommend, the only thing I would say it needs a little bit of updating, decorating etc, p.s we will leave our business card at reception as this is what we do for a profession, good luck with moving forward,
