Really tired pokey rooms. Uncomfortable sweetly bed that's barely above the floor .
Stains on the bed sheets didn’t give much confidence in the cleaning. 
Curtains don’t meet in the middle so woke up with the early morning sun

Tiny bedroom with grey sheets that looked dirty . Tiny dirty bathroom . Window did not open in bedroom . They did bring us a fan as it was heatwave . 
Lamp broken. Again they did bring us another lamp. 
Whole place was dirty with cigarette bits everywhere . 
 
Food in the evening and breakfast was totally inedible . 

Only plus was staff were very helpful and friendly .

The location was fine for access to the New Forest and Southampton. The Breakfast was fine, cereal + full english.

It's important to stress that these are rooms over a pub and as such is reflected in the price. Overall the rooms are a bit tired but seem clean. Accordingly, it would be unfair to benchmark our stay at Roebuck room by Hotel or B&B standards, however, we had a few hiccups 2 of which we could live with but one that needs serious attention. 

The sink was very blocked and took ages to drain

The loo cistern kept going (just a sticky cistern valve) 

But the bed was way beyond its use-by date and several over the mattress springs had failed, I tried turning the mattress to no avail.  Very uncomfortable.

We left a note for the owners as maybe nobody has let them know before?

Do bear in mind being a Pub they sometimes have discos on Saturdays but they finish at 11pm.

Wonderful helpful staff nothing was to much trouble.? food was really good and big portions , bacon exceptional sausages need improving,,definitely go back , it is a pub  not a hotel which is worth remembering when booking ,,

Stop over

We stayed at The Roebuck in Marchwood on the first night of our road trip around the south coast. We wanted somewhere cheap & simple & quiet just to get our head down before moving on early the next morning. Unfortunately there wasn't much available when we booked so at £70 for the night, The Roebuck was our best option. We usually stay in small guesthouses & in YHA private rooms so usually very cheap so for £70 we did expect a lot more than we got unfortunately! 
On walking in, it very much felt like a 'locals' type of place but for one night it wasn't an issue. Checking in was easy enough but the room itself made us feel very uneasy. We were told the room is upstairs & key is in the door. I was not at all confident that the room had been cleaned. There was still poop in the toilet! The toiletries had been topped up but the used soap & cup were still on the side of the sink. There was a towel hung in the bathroom that we couldn't be sure if it was clean or not. The tea tray had been used & the rubbish was still on the tray. We had to flag it up to the lady on the bar as it made us feel very uncomfortable. She played it down a lot & reassured us that the beds had been changed & towels were clean but by that point we were already full of doubt so it didn't help us feel any better. She was very friendly & helpful though. 
The room itself is very tired & in need of updates. The carpet was horrifically stained, room just generally grubby, the shower door was missing so a curtain up instead & the bedding was all mismatched. It felt more like staying at an elderly relatives house than a professional overnight stay!
Noise wasn't particularly an issue, it's a pub with pub noise as to be expected. Getting in & out was easy. Free onsite parking is a bonus & there's a corner shop just across the carpark.
They were very accommodating on us wanting an earlier breakfast & we pre-ordered the night before. Breakfast was good & the chap serving was again friendly.
It's a real shame as the place has a lot of potential but it feels as though it's not been looked after upstairs the best & the attention to details is very poor. We would give it a chance again in future if they updated the rooms but for £70 it is over what I would be happy to pay again. 

In dire need of an update.

I stayed here for a night this week and was disappointed. Looks ok from the outside but that’s about all that was good. The room was grubby, discoloured pillows, plenty of dust and hairs in the sink. The bed was shocking. Rickets old metal bed with bed springs pressing in my back all night.WiFi worked ok in the room but hit and miss in the bar downstairs. Food was poor. Burger and chips were dry and tasteless. The crumble desert was more like dried up pastry and definitely didn’t resemble anything like a crumble. The worst part was the table I sat at during dinner was terribly sticky like it needed a good clean. Arms were sticking to it whilst I was trying to eat.

Stayed here for 2 nights as was working in the store opposite, rooms were clean and spacious I had a perfect night sleep which was surprising due to it being a pub. ..included in my stay was breakfast which was out of this world..thanks to the landlady who was so lovely and helpful .  This place is beautiful and run by amazing people if your ever in the area pop in you wont be disappointed

Lovely place to stay

Stopped in at the Marchwood on our way back from the New Forest this weekend as other highly rated pubs in the area were full. The Roebuck was quiet, and we quickly understood why. Over 24 hours later we are still trying to find the words to describe how genuinely awful the food was.

My partner and I both had the mixed roast dinner, costing £9.95 each. For this price we did not expect anything mind blowing. We did however expect that the three meats (beef, lamb and pork) to be distinguishable from each other. The 'meat' was chewy, stringy and tasteless. The roast potatoes were anaemic and soggy, probably owing to the swimming pool worth of gravy/dirty dishwater. The vegetables were frozen and barely defrosted. The stuffing was packet mix and was probably the highlight of the meal. I will not even dignify the 'Yorkshire Pudding' with a description. 

In all, it was a school dinner at best. 

The drinks prices were okay, and the barman was pleasant. We had intended to make use of the darts boards and pool table after our meal with another drink, however after such an awful meal we could not wait to leave. 

Given a 2 star rating due to the sports facilities and friendly bar staff, otherwise would have been a begrudging 1 star.

Had better roast dinners in my failing state school

We stayed here for 3 nights. The rooms were basic but just what we needed. The bar below didn't disturb us and the barman was very friendly throughout the say. A refreshment of the mugs etc. would have been a lovely gesture. Very Convienant co-op next door. 

Just what we needed. 

For years on this place has never successfully got itself together. You'd think it'll be a hit due to its location being in the village centre. However, the place just can't really compete with the neighbouring pubs in terms of food and ambis
