Another great stay, although sorry to say it’s my last due to the owners retiring, clean building and warm welcoming right to the end. Hoping to find another place that offers what Abbeylodge always has, although I don’t think we will

Been a pleasure

Very nice welcome by the owner on a wet and miserable day. The room was very clean and tidy and had everything you need and extra touches too. We were only there one night but would not hesitate in staying there again.

This was booked by others as a hotel bed and breakfast. Certainly not a hotel and they don’t do breakfast , so is just a b. 
Very dated. Toilet two flights of stairs up! 
Room tiny and a pole to hang my suits on as too small for a wardrobe. 
View was the back yard . 
Very hot and stuffy with two adults in the small room. 
Positives are free WiFi, tea and coffee and freeview tv. Room very clean but 40 years out of date. 
Sadly we have four nights here and we’re struggling after one evening ! Can’t swing a cat! 
I can see why this place was available for four nights , speaks volumes !!!
No i wouldn’t return.  


B&B hotel,  and no breakfast or hotel! 

Returned for another visit to Southsea and decided to stay here again, what can I say?? Great place to stay, very friendly and warm welcoming, everything as always provided by hosts, Very helpful it seems nothing is to much, glad I came back and will be returning again

I’ll start with the positives, the tea and coffee supply in the room was plentiful with bottled mineral water supplied daily, the toiletries well stocked and the hot water was HOT, god was it hot!! 
If you were a traveller back in the 1970s you’ll get the idea of what we have just experienced. I was greeted with the smell of the dog. We were in the attic room and as the roof was sloped we could only stand up in small areas of the room. The en suite was the same - stooping to wash and do our teeth. There was no shower but a bath - the shower available was down the corridor but as we paid for en suite we did not use this. The walls were thin and the doors hollow chip bird type, so we heard when the neighbours were coming and going. We were greeted by a fella who was very helpful in showing us a map with places to go but he went on and on and...... He then asked what time we’d like breakfast in the one hour time slot available, so the grill could be turned on at the right time to save money. At breakfast I ordered the full English while being quizzed as to what I’d like so as not to cause waste - a little uncomforting as there were options to pick and choose what I’d like. We sat in a dining area that was old fashioned, by a window with nets that were yellowing with age, used cutlery that was god knows how old, served Tesco thin sliced bread toasted to a crisp and offered Tesco cheap sauce with the meal. The flowers on show were plastic ones! 
Our last weekend away was in a big hotel chain with gym, pool, sauna a pick your own breakfast bar, two bars and staff that couldn’t do enough for you while respecting your privacy. And this was CHEAPER than we paid for this time travelling experience.

This place is good for a one night stay ,They dont do food at all so you have to go out for thisn,not good if you have mobility issues as steps up to door and then stairs to rooms .Rooms are O K bathroom was very small but adiquate .Staff were helpfull and pleasent  ,

Great for one night

I have to admit I read the reviews and still booked, it was the only place that had availability with en-suite. We arrived 18 minutes before the suggested check in time and was met at the door by both proprietors, the lady who I presume was Linda barged past us muttering it was not 4pm and went into a room marked private and slammed the door, The first thing that hits you coming in the front door is over whelming smell of dog it’s so strong , the gentleman carried on checking us in as nothing had happened  and was very polite ,thank god the room was clean , and after having the windows open for 10 minutes got rid of the  smell. the room was very dated and not worth the price tag and described as a Double-Superior-Ensuite-King Bed ,that was a room with low down old bed and oblong cupboard that housed a toilet and shower  ,Breakfast was not included in the £85 a night price not that we had we had eaten it with the smell, also parking spaces in this area are hard to find ,I really suggest you find somewhere better
