Rang ahead on Saturday afternoon & were greeted by a lovely lady on the phone who arranged for us to park overnight in our campervan after our evening meal.
  Food was so nice,I had a burger & home cooked chips & my better half indulged in the carbonara,I may have even pinched some of hers 😊
  Definitely recommend this little gem of a spot to anyone visiting the area,even having breakfast here before we head back home.
  Our 1st night kid free for what seems like forever & we certainly picked the perfect place 
  Thanks to all the super friendly,helpfulstaff & of course the chef 😊

Date night stopover

Just PERFECT , this place should be 5 star for staff alone . Both Karen and Jane made our stay , they could not do enough. The rooms are smallish but very comfortable, clean and warm. We had the set NYE menu which was very reasonable at £37 per person. The beef meal had the most delicious veggies, gravy and a good generous portion of meat. The previous night we had eaten in the bar after the lively Karen had checked on our journey as we were running late. The bar food was fab, hot tasty and fresh. 

Breakfast was a bit dissspointing as menu consisted of just 3 different sizes of full English or egg bacon or sausage on toast . There was a small cereal bar also.  Regardless this doesn’t deflect from how great this place is. 

A shout out also to the room service lady who was very friendly snd went out of her way to leave more tea in our room. 

Toiletries a very good quality , as was bed linen. 

Our dog was made very welcome treated as part if the family . 

Keep up the good work, can’t wait to come back.

Called in for a bite to eat,  not only did they accommodate us despite lunch having finished , it was beautiful! Presentation was fabulous,  staff fabulous,  toilets fabulous! Think you get the drift! The whole atmosphere was just FABULOUS! Call in, you certainly won't be disappointed

Owners and staff are super friendly, food was just delicious (the chef's specials really are special!)
Family and dog friendly.
A beautiful old building (lots of steps of you're in the beer garden for anyone with mobility problems but the front is all one level)
They allow overnight stops in a camper/motorhome. No EHU/loo but no charge either! A quiet spot round the back of the pub.

Very much a little gem

We stayed for 4 nights whilst in the area and had a mixed bag of feelings about this establishment. Whilst the staff are excellent, friendly and very helpful, they are somewhat let down by the establishment even though "it is an old building" (the managers excuse for many things).
We initially put in room 6 which has a emergency exit sign above the door that illuminates the room throughout the night bright green, so don't expect to get a good night's sleep unless you've brought an eye mask. But when they could they transferred us to another room that was much better and we would have slept soundly throughout the night but were disturbed by a fire alarm on both remaining nights, the first at 2am without any staff attendance for over 40 minutes. We even had to call the fire brigade so that the alarm could checked out.
But back to more enjoyable experiences of our stay. We had dinner during our stay and it was good to see that the menu was properly labelled showing where things were dairy-free, as I am dairy intolerant. The food was very nice and well presented. It arrived in a timely manner, nice and hot, and tasted really good.
Breakfast, which was included in the room rate, was the highlight of our stay as we got to meet Katie who served us our breakfasts. She is an absolute legend and she truly is the best thing about the Manor. Even after our disturbed night due to the fire alarm she managed to brighten up our moods and day, and set us off with a spring in our step.
I would say though all the staff were very approachable and helpful. We were in the area house hunting and they were able to give us information about the different areas that would have taken us ages to find out for ourselves. So I really would like to say thank you to all of them.

Excellent staff, good food, but other things certainly let the Manor down during our 4 night stay.

We popped in every evening for a meal .. after a  couple of days the  staff remembered us  and our pooches which we like . Food was very good.. I would totally recommend  here .. wr ate there 3 nights and all dishes were excellent.

A great Sunday beef dinner, I had the pensioners special and wife the normal portion. There didn’t seem to be much difference between the two! Dog friendly and free hodge speed WiFi. Real ale available . Friendly and attentive staff. Will return .

Sunday Lunch for Roxy

We stayed here as the first night before our coast to coast walk. The Manor is traditional style pub with a bar, restaurant and rooms above. The room was comfortable although a little small. The bathroom was clean and functional. We ate in the pub restaurant which served simple but good pub grub. The breakfast was freshly cooked and good with a good choice. The lady who checked us in was very friendly,  the other staff in the restaurant were rather distant. The location is good, on the main street, which is quiet at night. From the pub to the official starting point of the coast to coast walk is about a mile.

We made two visits to eat at the Manor. We found the staff really good and helpful, the beer was good and the food very tasty. It was better than average pub menu well cooked and as I said previously very tasty. We would definatley visit again.

A Good Place To Eat

I stayed at the Manor with my partner for a week from the 19th September.  We were allocated room 6 - a double room with spacious ensuite bathroom and a shower over the bath. There was a heated shower rail in the bathroom and plenty of hot water throughout our stay.  We had adequate storage for our week stay with a wardrobe, chest of drawers and bedside tables.  There was a kettle and tea and coffee in the room.  The room has a view of the beer garden and car park.
Due to covid the cleaners didn’t come into our room throughout our stay but the cleaners were around and happy to supply us with clean towels, toilet rolls and tea and coffee when we caught their eye.  

Slight negatives were the bright green security light showing the way to the door in case of an emergency.  Though I realise this is health and safety, the light really was very bright and lit the room up at night.  Also as the room is directly above the kitchen it was quite noisy in a morning as the noisy extractor fan starts at 0630 and we could hear the staff talking and moving around as they started preparing breakfast.  This wasn't a big deal but might be an issue if you like a lie in on holiday.  Also the shower wasn't the best as the riser and shower head are right next to the shower curtain which tended to cling to you.  We had a problem with the lighting in the bedroom which was lit by 2 small spotlights and the one nearest the mirror went off after 20 seconds which did make it difficult getting ready on an evening.  Only one of the bedside lights worked, the other one didn't even have a bulb.  We did report the lighting problems to John the manager and hopefully it will be sorted out before anyone else stays in the room.

We ate at the Manor for 6 out of our 7 nights and thought that the food was very good.  The chicken supreme with mash was my favourite though the homemade steak and ale pie and the beef lasagne were also very good.  We enjoyed a cooked breakfast most mornings.

The staff at the Manor are lovely and John and his team do a great job looking after you. We found Karen and Sue to be particularly helpful though all the staff were great.  We enjoyed our stay in St Bees and would be happy to stay at the Manor again if we were visit the area again. Free parking is available in the car park at the back of the hotel and we never had a problem getting a space though it might be different in the height of the season as the car park is used by residents and people eating in the restaurant.

We were a bit confused about the WIFI as our room description showed wireless internet but under hotel policies on our confirmation it shows no internet access available.  I did manage to use the WIFI when we were downstairs but couldn't get it in the room.  However this wasn't a problem as there was a phone signal and I could use the data on my phone.
