I'd recommend the Borthalan to anyone staying in Carbis Bay! Quite apart from the stunning view of the bay from our comfortable room, we were treated to a wonderful welcome from the hosts Margaret and Martin.  Delicious breakfasts, easy walks to the beach and the local train station (St Ives is only 3 mins away), made this the ideal location. The room itself had all conveniences, strong shower,  tea and coffee (refreshed daily). Thank you! We'll be here again for our next visit! 

Stunning views from the window!

I have never felt so welcome by anyone at a b&b/hotel before! Margaret and Martin are so friendly, helpful and lovely to chat to. They make you feel so at home, make the most delicious breakfasts and are so helpful when it comes to advice about the local areas. The room was really comfortable and we had everything we needed for our short stay. Our view from the room of the bay was gorgeous and it was so easy to get to the local train station. An absolutely wonderful stay - would recommend this beautiful place to everyone! Thank you Margaret and Martin!!!! 

A glorious stay with wonderful hosts! 

5 star, warm and friendly accommodation.
Had the most amazing few days whilst attending a wedding at Carbis Bay. 
Margaret and Martin are the friendliest, most accommodating people I have met in a long time.
Can highly recommend staying here and only a short walk to Carbis Bay rail station and St Ives.
We will definitely be returning next year.

Warm and welcoming hosts and great location for Carbis and St Ives

Lovely location not far from Carbis bay beach 🏝️ you can hear the sea at night from the window (lovely) the owners are lovely, nothing is to much, breakfast lots to chose from, cereals, full English, selection of drinks. Room is Clean/tidy, water was hot for shower, tv in the room included BT sports/Netflix, tea/coffee provided plus hair dryer in the room, clean towels everyday. Not far from the entrance is a little path to walk to the Carbis bay beach 🏝️ (steep hills) all over this part of Carbis bay. The walk into St Ives along the coastal path is beautiful with lovely views. 

Brilliant location 

Really helpful friendly couple who couldn’t do enough to make our stay as lovely as possible.  We were made to feel welcome to relax in the garden all day if we chose to, Martin bringing out drinks for us from the bar, then setting up a table inside one evening when we brought a takeaway back with us,  beds are comfortable, what more could anyone need.

We were in a double bedroom very comfortable bed nicely appointed and kept extremely clean Martin and Margaret were very good hosts nothing is too much trouble. The location is very good  convenient for St Ives and close to a lovely beach.
We enjoyed a delicious breakfast every morning which is freshly cooked on your arrival in the dining room. We would have no hesitation to recommend to anyone

A First Class friendly hotel giving excellent service and food

Spent four days at the Borthalan B&B and pleased to be able to submit an extremely positive review. We were made very welcome by Martin and Margaret, who were very accommodating even though we arrived a tad early! The property is situated around a 15-20 minute walk above Carbis Bay beach (make sure you speak to Martin to get the best directions!) and close to the small railway station which runs a half-hourly service from St Erth to St Ives.

You have a choice of breakfast menu and time, and Margaret will start your freshly cooked selection when you arrive at your table. if you need to go out early just let them know and they will try to accommodate. We were lucky enough to have a seaview room, and the fresh air flowing through from the ensuite window meant we were able to keep cool despite the recent heat!  There is a lounge downstairs and a small bar from which Martin is happy to provide that pre- or post-dinner tipple.

There is ample parking and the location is ideal for the beach although you do need to be fit enough to carry anything down as it's a pretty hilly area. Otherwise you must be prepared to drive down, try to find a parking space in the small car park, and pay a silly price for it.

There are two walkable pubs (around 20 minutes to either)  and the food and service is good for both. If you plan to explore the area then this is the perfect location from which to do so, for example, St Michaels Mount, Minack Theatre and Lands End are all within easy reach. The beaches are, of course, also exceptional.

All in all we had an excellent four days just ahead of the school holidays and would be more than happy to make a return visit. Thankyou Martin and Margaret for being such good hosts.

Perfect location for Carbis Bay

Margaret & Martin really took care of my parents and reassured me they would be well looked after as we had booked into another place just 2 minutes away!
My mum & dad were really spoilt with their hospitality and generous breakfasts which was all cooked fresh by Margaret. My dad really enjoyed having chats with Martin and I think my dad would still be there now if we didn’t have to go home! They are a welcoming and warm couple who work hard running this guest house by themselves with no other staff, but the heart & soul is there at Borthalan House as soon as you step in! 
If we are in Carbis Bay again then we would have no hesitation in booking again! 
Thank you both, it’s a hidden gem in a stunning area.

Home from Home

Margaret & Martin were so nice, we had been driving for 5 hours and wasn't suppose to check in for another 3 hours, but within 15 mins Margaret had the room ready for us, nice and clean, perfect for what we needed it for. Breakfast was really nice, filled in the sheet of paper the night before, for what we would like to have for breakfast, nice choice of items too, very attentive, asking if we needed more coffee/tea/toast, made us feel so welcome. The B&B was spotless, beautiful place. Some nice places to eat too in the evenings too, The Cornish Inn (St Ives), The Badger Inn (Carbis Bay) and The Watermill (Carbis Bay) our favourite. Would definitely recommend to friends and family this beautiful B&B.

Just the loveliest home from home.  A real gem.

Carbis Bay area is expensive and exclusive but Borthalan House provides a wonderful comfortable base which will not break the budget.   

The decor of the hotel is tasteful and to a high standard.  The rooms are very comfortable and bright.

Margaret and Martin are wonderful welcoming hosts- nothing is too much trouble and they take a genuine interest in their guests 

The breakfast is super -  fresh fruit, cereal, full English with toast, juice and coffee 

Very highly recommended
