My daughter and I were at Cwmwennol Country House for 2 nights and I can say that it was the best place where we stayed during our 10-day drive round South and West Wales. People were very kind and helpful, the food was excellent and the view from our room was fantastic, just natural woods, blue sea and clear sky! No traffic noise at all as it is set in the woods, not too far from the main road but far enough to make sure no noise would disturb our stay. Lovely, in one word!

Delightful hotel with beautiful sea and forest views and excellent service and food

Fantastic hotel. Me and my wife have been coming to same hotel for over 20 years now. We wouldn't go to any other place in the area. Vicky and roy are great owners and are always friendly,  and who always make our stay nice. nothing is ever too much for them.

Stay

We stayed here for one night and whilst the room was average and not the cleanest place we have stayed in, it did the job. It is clearly a very dog friendly place and the main issue with cleanliness was dog hairs. It had nice views and was in a nice location and the breakfast was nice.

One night only

Situated in a wood it is off the beaten track a mile or so outside Saundersfoot 
The room was tidy, clean and well supplied with coffee/tea makings. A nice touch was the fudge and biscuits on the bed ! 
Steps into the room and up to the enormous bathroom may be a problem for the more elderly
Our bath hot tap seemed jammed but Roy quickly set too and had it all fixed in minutes .
Breakfast was excellent with a large menu range, which has to be pre-.
ordered, which I do not find to be a problem.
One suggestion might be that Sam ,who was ever charming and helpful, might want to consider slightly smarter dress for the dining room.
Overall an excellent stay, well priced and we look forward to returning later in the year.

One night stay

Forensic review 

First off - congratulations on surviving the pandemic which must have tested people's overdraft to the max. Anyone who got through it deserves a medal.

We decided not to stay at the more well-known Tenby due to the costs and the lack of parking.   Parking here was free which is a major plus. As we booked a five night stay this would add up significantly.

DOG FRIENDLY    Yes you really do need to like dogs. On our second night, there were no less than 16 dogs almost taking over the bar area They are fairly well behaved but pampered animals do not always respond to their owner's commands. One dog was impolite enough to take a dump on the carpet but that was cleared up promptly.

THE BEDROOM.   Ours was No 3. The mattress is of good quality. The building is old so there is quite a lot of creaking and bumping, not to mention the occasional bark in the corridors. The shower just about works.

BREAKFAST. Huge choice and you can tick a number of items to suit. For example, yogurt,  fruit salad, porridge,  then a choice of about 15 hot foods from a traditional fry-up to a generous portion of scrambled egg and salmon. You are asked to book your choice the night before.

EVENING MEAL - advertised from 6.30 to 7.30. You basically book for 6.30 or 7 pm. Food was not served on Tuesday or Thursday this week  (6-10 June 22)  All meals can be eaten in the restaurant or the pub area. Doggie people tend to eat in the bar area. You will find the prices very reasonable and the portions ample. You must book in the morning and select your dish.

THE BAR - Roy the owner knows very little about how to serve a drink. I asked for a Gin and Tonic. I asked for two bits of ice and was given two minute cubes. He served it in an orange juice glass made of thick glass which warmed up the Gin in a blink of an eye. I ended up with a warm gin and tonic. OK my fault for not complaining but for the reasons given below I was not minded to.

THE RECEPTION AREA - normally unattended so you have to ring a bell. I did so on arrival. I said in my best greeting voice' You must be Roy'. His first words were 'I tried your card but it failed'.  Anyway, we signed in. My impression was of a tired person with much on his mind. Guests seemed almost a nuisance. I sensed he had a short fuse. In the bar, I asked if the order I made on arrival was for one course of two as we had not seen a menu.  He appeared flustered and said he did not know, so he had to ask behind the scenes.

Who knows what goes on behind the scenes but in my view, you should not take on a position in the hospitality industry if you don't like people. He tolerates them. Just.

SAM SAVES THE DAY - The complete opposite - and the savior of the stay - was Sam, the affable and 'nothing is too much trouble' waiter. He served at both breakfast and dinner. He made us feel welcome.  100% heart. Lovely chap.  I was happy to give him a significant tip on departure.

THE AREA - not many suitable restaurants and evening ones tend to be booked up.  Advance booking is necessary for example for The Royal Oak, the #1 in Saundersfoot. OK there is fish and chips plenty but even they close around 7pm   The town is 10 minutes away on foot so you may choose to leave the car

There is a garden area behind the establishment. The shrubs are ill-kempt and need attention.

A Bus passes the end of the road to Tenby each hour. You hail it.  381 I think it was. There is little public transport after 6pm.

Roy - time to retire or hand over to someone else, or sell as a going concern. First impressions count but hats off for taking responsibility for a 24/7 day operation.

101 Dalmatians - Sam saves the day

We love staying here. So dog friendly. The owners Roy and Vickie as well as the staff make you so welcome. Nothing is too much trouble. The breakfasts allow for many tastes. The full English is great. We had two evening meals and couldn’t fault them. We will be back soon.

A lovely dog friendly place, fabulous breakfast and a lovely chap that served us ( didn’t get his name). We would definitely recommend .  Lovely home touches in the room, home made biscuits and fudge, and dog biscuits for furry friends

A lovely homely place to stay

Stayed for five nights November 2021. Genuinely hospitable hosts, nice big comfortable room with a superb breakfast. The hotel is set in a quiet secluded location. Our small Jack Russell terrier was made very welcome. Would stay again.

Enjoyable

We had a lovely 2 night stay here, me,my husband and little dog were made to feel very welcome. Nice touches in the room, little bags of hand made fudge and home made biscuits and a little bag of dog  bones for my doggie. Nice big car park, lovely woods to walk our dog. Had a couple of drinks in the evening in the bar, was nice to chat with Roy and a big bonus for us on our last night was seeing badgers and foxes in the floodlit garden through the window, which was fantastic. Breakfast was lovely, preordered and spoilt for choice. Will definitely stay again.

Nice little country house in the middle of the woods

We booked a last minute break for our wedding anniversary and travelled up from Somerset for a change of scenery and visit the beautiful beaches around Saundersfoot. Our main criteria was finding a pet friendly hotel, as we wanted to bring our small dog along. Messaged hotel to double check and Vicky confirmed our dog would be very welcome.  Charged £75 for the room and just £5 extra for the dog. Sat Nav took  us there with no problems.  Hotel tucked away amongst lovely woodland but just very short distance from the beach.  Spacious car park. Arrived alot earlier than we told the hotel but our room was ready at 11.30am and we were allowed in, as we wanted to drop our case off and then explore the area. At check in, we were asked our breakfast choice for the following morning.  I was told that this house was built in the 1800's and used to be a girl's boarding school.  We had room 8, a twin room with shower. Everywhere nice and clean, Lovely view over the garden to the sea. Tea tray and complimentary fudge and biscuits.  Also left was a little bag of dog treat bones, which our dog appreciated very much.  We arrived Tuesday 5 October 2021 and planned to have dinner at the hotel. However, we were told there was no dinner service that evening but the bar was open.  Went out to find somewhere locally for dinner but found this very difficult indeed with staff shortages etc.  Very comfortable bed, no complaints at all.  Booked breakfast for 8.30am and as we had the dog with us, had a table in the lovely Badger Bar, which was down the stairs into the lower part of the hotel. It was very pleasant having breakfast looking out to the garden.  We chose the full breakfast, although there were plenty of other options.  Wonderful breakfast indeed, served by a very pleasant young gentleman.  Payment was taken from our card the evening before so it was just a matter of returning the key at reception and leaving.  We certainly enjoyed our stay and look forward to staying there again.
