Went here for evening meal. The hotel looks amazing. Loads of character. Very clean. The food is so delicious. The staff and new management are so polite and welcoming. It's such an amazing opportunity to make this historic building into something amazing. This place has been neglected over the years. But this revamp is a credit to the new management. And seriously, the food is amazing! All fresh ingredients and just delicious!

Amazing delicious food in an amazing building. Highly recommend. 

My partner and I were travelling for my father's funeral. When I asked about leaving bags early they kindly insisted that we check in early so we could rest. They arranged good cheap local taxis and made a difficult journey so much easier. They were helpful and nothing was too much trouble. The room was comfortable with great wifi. The bar was nice with a nice selection and I do recommend their breakfast sandwiches. When I go back to Stourbridge I'll stay there again. It's also extremely close to an amazing Nepalese restaurant and many local shops.

Difficult journey made easy

Excellent place with great staff,great location,good food with reasonably priced drinks.
Stayed here for new year with some friends as it was a great location for what we needed.
Rooms are very clean and comfortable,and there is on site parking fir free.
The staff here work so hard and nothing is to much trouble.
They have sky sports and great bar snacks.we had the nachos very nice.
They also have breakfast it's very reasonable .
All in all I would recommend this hotel to anyone and we will be staying again when next in the area.

Clean tidy everything just as it should be 

Booked two twin rooms. Both pretty basic which, for the price of £60 each, wasn’t a surprise. Clean and tidy and a good shower. Excellent location on the High St with free parking at the back of the hotel. Just remember to put your registration into the consol on the front desk. The room was fine for one night at that price.

Decent hotel at a good price.

£60 for new years eve, and free secure parking.  The room was small but clean and the shower was hot and powerful. We read rooms don't have kettles so we took our own. We ordered dinner at the bar which didn't appear but when we enquired were told the chef had collapsed in the kitchen and an ambulance was in attendance,  so we could hardly complain. When the food did arrive shortly after it was really good. We slept well in the room and had breakfast which wasn't great( this maybe due to the chef not being there) and included toast made from mouldy bread,  this was replaced but the customers on the table next to us then also had mouldy toast. 
We would stay  here again, the building is lovely but the hotel seems understaffed and what staff there are seem a bit bewildered and undertrained, with some not having very good English . Obviously the chef being rushed to hospital was very traumatic but I saw a guy behind the bar cut his hand on something, wrap blue paper round his hand and carry on handling glasses. I did suggest he go get it cleaned up but he said it was OK. We didn't order anymore drinks after that. 

Cheap and cheerful

Anyone reading the recent reviews for the Talbot might be nervous of booking there, but i was told it was OK bay a friend that lives locally and so, as I was looking for a `cheap` nights stay, I booked.
Was it deserving of all the 1* reviews that people have given it? 
In my experience, no - but that's not to say that my stay was perfect.
I arrived around 4.30pm, but couldn't find any staff on duty to check me.
After waiting 15 minutes, eventually someone turned up, and despite some confusion regarding my reservation via Booking.com,, i got my key
The building dates back to the 1600's and is very quirky - the upstairs layout meant that it took me a whike to actually find my room.
My first impressions were good - the furniture and fittings needed updating, and whoever had cleaned the room hadn't done a good job as there were sweet wrappers under the bed and an empty beer can on top of the wardrobe. The bathroom was also dated (the taps on the bath needed repair), but the only soap in there was a small bar presumably left by the previous occupant.
One of the window panes was cracked/broken and had a laminated sheet taped over it, but that didn't affect me.

There was plenty of tea/coffee/milk/sugar, however there was no litter bin in the room!

After reading previous reviews, i carefully checked the bed and sheets, but they were perfectly clean.

Wi-Fi was advertised, but it wasn’t working during my visit.

What the room didn't look like was any of the ones shown on the hotel web-site.

It also took me a while to figure out how to work the TV, as the remote control wouldn't switch it on or off - i eventually found a switch on the ack of the set that did that. I'm not sure it was the correct remote for that set.

Before going out for the night, i checked on how to get back in, as I was going to be late. I was given a door code for the lock on the back door.
When I did get back (admittedly late, after midnight) I was unable to get the door open, despite using the code I was given for the lock. I'd been told there was a night porter on duty, and to knock the door - but I was unable to attract anyone's attention. 
Eventually I noticed a telephone number stuck on a wall, and rang that and two men came to open the door. Initially they didn't seem to want to let me in, asking for photo ID , despite me showing them my key. Finally they let me in. 

After that, I had a comfortable nights sleep.

Unfortunately there was one more hitch to come.
I went down to reception to check out at 9am, but ther was no-one around. So I went back the the room and tried again 20 minutes later. Still no-one aorund.
At 9.45 I found a man in the lobby area, who i assumed was a guest. He told me that it was "Too early" to find any staff!
I left my key on the reception desk and departed.

The hotel is under new management, and hopefully they will be able to sort out some of the problems there. It's an historic building, and could be really nice with a bit of TLC.
Was my stay a disaster? No
Would I stay there again? For one night, probably.
I'd rate the hotel as a 2* , with potential for improvement, if someone is prepared to put the time and money it needs into it.

Don’t expect much, it’s cheap .

We had 8 rooms booked. When we arrived they told us they'd mad a mistake with booking.com. The offered us 3 rooms - a triple, and two singles - saying to of the grown adults in the party could go "top to tail". 

To help them out, as they seemed to drunk/hungover to deal with it we offered to find our own alternative accommodation, which we did in their reception. A week later we got a parking fine for parking in their parking while we sorted their problem. When we complained they  said ignore it, they would sort it. Eventually we ended up paying £120 in fines, Absolute shambles.

One star is way too generous

My family booked a night at the talbot via booking.com. When the arrived the hotel had been shut down and the owners were in prison. To top that the hotel has been taken over by squatters and drug addicts. All the interim is smashed up. Needless to say my family went elsewhere.
This hotel is still being advertised on various sites, so beware

Absolutely a disgrace

Used to occasionally frequent The Talbot pre pandemic and know of its reputation. Unfortunately the manager was moved to another establishment and went rapidly downhill.Last few weeks we’ve seen advertising that food was available so this afternoon gave it ago.
I’d been shopping so approached via the car park. Rear door was locked, seemed bolted at top as the bottom slightly moved when I pulled handle.
Saw a wooden blockade which I managed to move and found door to bar area.
Children toys everywhere, no actual sitting down customers, but two guys sitting on the tables opposite the bar. They didn’t attempt to move so I squeezed past and stood at the bar. I was totally ignored, the lady behind the bar continued chatting so I carried on through and out the front door.
This building is one of oldest most beautiful structures around, local people would love to pop in for coffee and cake, or a cheeky drink. 
Saturday evening meals in the restaurant were lovely.
Not anymore. It would be a tragedy for The Talbot to close but I see no future.

Very disappointing. Bring back the manager from before Covid.

The latest trick... take your cash... then process the booking.com charge... ie double payment... ie the 'manager' pockets your cash... booking. com are totally useless in sorting out the problem... the CEO also ignores letters to deal with this fraud
