Please don’t waste your money. Service is horrendous, staff are very rude and abrupt. You’re pressured to leave before you’ve even had a drinks order taken. It’s clearly as quick as they can get you out to fill the table again and the very basic food is extremely over priced. Portpatrick is such a lovely place and you will have a much better meal elsewhere.

Don’t bother!

The food was very  well presented, tasty and good value for money in really nice premises, bar and food is table service only, we had fish & chips which included
home made chips a large succulent piece of battered fish, mushy peas, pickled onions, bread & butter and a pot of tea all for £19

Worth the climb up the hill

This is definitely the worst stay we have ever experienced. My wife and I have been travelling across Europe and the USA for over 30 years and we have never been in such a filthy and badly kept property. The pictures are self-explanatory, showing the accumulated dirt and grime in apartment 19 of the Mount Stewart Hotel in Portpatrick, Scotland. There were no cleaning materials available so we had to wash some dishes with shower gel in order to have some breakfast before leaving this awful place. 

Pictures show broken paving stones and plywood covering gaps in the porch area outside the apartment. There are cigarette ends right outside the door and there is no mat inside the front door, which means that any dirt is carried further into the space.  The paintwork in covered in dirt, the floor, not surprisingly, was filthy and the shower leaked onto the bathroom floor, resulting in perhaps the only really clean area of the property. 

We raised the issues with the duty manager who assured us that the owners would respond as soon as they returned from wherever they were. We sent pictures and waited for a response, which did not happen. There was some sense of surprise that we wanted to leave early and we were careful not to ask for our money or any proportion of what we had paid. It was our choice to leave, but you would think that any caring and contentious owner would be either anxious, or at the very least, curious to know why we felt so strongly about this experience. No. Nothing.

Worst stay ever- checked out a day early

Regular at MS for many years. Over last few years one of the best places for food. Tasty and consistent. However very disappointed this evening. New and reduced menu which is fine and on initial view of menu saw an increase to price which can be understandable (portpatrick always expensive for food). Ordered my usual seafood pancake, up 2-3 pounds since last year (now £19) and it was lovely as usual. Expecting the sides that it has come with for years (potatoes and veg) these are now being charged at £10 for both. This is over a 50% increase in the total meal! Portion sizes of other meals reduced. Really disappointed and appreciate the cost of living increase. Management staff have never been overly friendly to regular customers and historically i have forgon this in view of the good food in the past.  However, prices are too high with reduced portions.  Always come with familly and friends though unfortunately won't be back anytime soon 

Very Dissapointed 

We popped in for lunch today - unfortunately they were closed for refurbishments... until evening meals. However Libby was very friendly offered to show us around as we had never visited the establishment before. All looked very plush and clean looking forward to returning very soon. Also will encourage friends to book into their various accomodations, over summer and bare minimum to eat and leave a review. Hoping that this will prove to be a good local place for us to eat and listen to music on a Friday or Saturday evening (apparently a ?resident pianist plays the baby grand).

The sign that says arrive as guest leave as friends rang in my ear - although a short tour around we were made to feel very welcome indeed.

Popped in to the Mount Stewart Hotel - Portpatrick.

There is no mirror in the bathroom. See the pictures. There are brackets but no mirror. What is worse is that this is not a new problem. This issue was written up in a previous review.

There is no shower in the bathroom. There is a standalone bathtub with no curtain or partition around it. Please see the picture. There’s no countertop or shelf space in the bathroom around the sink.

If you want to call downstairs and check on something or complain, the phone doesn’t work

Very disappointed

Excellent location, friendly staff and good food, but our accommodation (Wallace room) was poor. No mention of the four flights of stairs (no lift); bathroom window very tatty and dirty; bathroom floor uneven and tiles cracked; basin tap dripping unless very tightly closed; general paintwork dusty/dirty; stained window cushion; bedside drawer top cracked; curtain pole rusty; wardrobe doors askew and dusty; room servicing only adequate. Generally, the black/white/mirrors decor of the hotel will not suit everyone, but that is a personal preference; lack of breakfast fruit option. No response to letter of complaint. In conclusion, we do not consider this hotel either worthy of its claimed 4*, or value for money due to the lack of care by management.

 A disappointing stay in what appeared to be a good hotel.

I can only report on the restaurant, as we weren't able to stay at this hotel.  A friend had recommended we visit the restaurant. We were happy to follow that advice.  We booked as we had been told it might be busy. It was the best meal of our holiday.  Staff both in restaurant and bar were very pleasant and helpful. 

We will return. 😁

had a great weekend with my boyfriend in portpatrick however although we are both in our 20s we felt judged and ignored by the staff on the first night who made comments about us not booking dinner in advance and generally made us feel off and “unwanted” when we were leaving after staying saturday-monday we had to ask someone who was cleaning to find someone so we could check out. (also ask for a sea view if you are staying) 
our bathroom door also had a glass window in the middle of it and didn’t close fully which is definitely not ideal haha. 
i usually don’t write reviews as i never feel the need to but me and my boyfriend felt quite uncomfortable with how we were being treated over the weekend. 
if i needed somewhere to stay it was decent enough for a short stay. but sadly i wouldn’t choose to return :(

feeling judged by staff for looking young when you are in your 20s😳

We had a lovely meal, mussels, calamari, prawn cocktails, mains were duck, pasta, more mussels. The restaurant had cocktails which was lovely except no champagne cocktail, which seemed a strange refusal in a champagne bar. Nice sidecar, but with petals instead of orange peal.?The restaurant was very modern & warm & great views of the sea. Complimentary little tasty shot, alcoholic & non alcoholic when we arrived
