We couldn't think of a more perfect place to go for our engagement weekend having stayed with the wonderful Jackie & Roger before. They made us as welcome as ever in the beautifully appointed room 5. A magical weekend with special people in a special place - I cannot recommend highly enough. Anna & Rupert xx

Engagement

I was booked into the Guest House through the people who arrange travel for my work. I have to admit I did not know what to expect when i arrived. I was met by the owner, a lovely friendly lady, who showed me to a more than adequate size room. 

The area is very quiet and I slept very well.

If your in the area, I would recommend this accommodation.

Little surprise!

‘The Old Post Office’ in South Marston Wiltshire was a great place to stay, with Jackie & Roger who were the perfect hosts, it was just like home,with everything you needed for break from the old routine.Beautifully  spotless rooms all with en- suite facilities, and very comfortable beds.We enjoyed  time with them too,especially listening to Jackie’s wonderful operatic voice. We were recommended to stay there to attend our favourite country singer Chris Bannister’s gig in the village hall..
Ashort drive from Swindon,Lechlade by the river Thames-where there is a Christmas shop.Golf course & fishing.National trust Bucot House & park.(check for opening hours).

“Excellent stay”

After a tough experience in the nearby village I was seeking a refuge for a night. This accommodation was suggested to me by local people from that village and I was grateful. 
On arrival I was welcomed by a lovely lady called Jackie, who made me feel very welcome. I felt I was in safe hands under a peaceful roof straight from the start. The room was pretty, very clean, high standard. I was offered a quality bread and jam for breakfast and cereals. I discovered that Jackie was an opera singer. She sang beautifully. What a talent. What an experience. 
The house was clean and very comfortable throughout. High standards. There was a little, well maintained garden with a nice gazebo, garden furniture and statues, where I was able to spend an evening with my fiends. 
Both Jackie and her husband were very welcoming. I would definitely recommend their place and would be back in a second.  Thank you for welcoming me and for your kindness.

Peaceful stay - welcoming host

The room was lovely clean and well equipped and we were given a very warm welcome. Jackie could not do enough for us. Despite the current restrictions ample food and use of equipment to have a lovely breakfast. We hope to visit again soon!

Lovely Home from Home

After reading all the good reviews on Tripadvisor The Old Post Office looked good for a couple of nights to break our journey home and arranged to stay there. Told that there would be no hot B/fast because of the convid 19, we quite happy about this after having such excellent full English B/fasts at the Pier in Portsmouth we wanted something plain, toast and cereal would be fine .On arrival all seemed good but within 5 minutes Jackie wanted paying. We were then shown our bedroom which was nice, put the kettle on for tea then found the mini milk cartons were all off so down for some fresh milk and then the TV didn't work which Roger soon fixed and we watched the news in another room. So far not too bad, bed was good and slept like a log. Second morning came down to b/fast at around 9am a grand choice of Rice Krispies, Rice Krispies , Coco pops and no bread or marmalade. I rang the bell and called out but no one answered I did this twice had some RKs and tea and finished packing. Came to leave at around 9.45am still no one around even rang the bell again and called out.
On the plus side, the bed was very comfortable and Roger for sorting out the TV.
Will not be using that one again for RIAT next year.

Disappointing

Jackie was a friendly and welcoming host and nothing was too much trouble. Our room was spotless, and very homely (so much better than a bland chain hotel!). The shower was hot and powerful. The breakfast was a huge bonus and we got way more than you would expect - strawberries, waffles, toast, cereals, cakes, etc etc. They managed to fit us in last minute over the phone, and even gave us a double bed which wasn’t available as an option online! To top it all off, Roger gave us a souvenir to remember our stay. I would thoroughly recommend and will definitely stay again. Thanks!

We’ll be back!

I stayed here recently, for a week. The rooms are quaint, and finished to a high standard. The rooms that I saw, were all quirky, with sloping roofs, that you would expect in a period property. The sinks in the rooms that I saw, were small, in keeping with the bathroom. This was a slight downside for me, as I like to get close to wash my face, and this was difficult to do without banging my head.

The proprietor, I believe, is a former opera singer, and you will be greeted by an excerpt from an opera. When I experienced this, after a long day at work, I responded by smiling and saying 'Right!'. The proprietor said don't you like opera? To which I wanted to respond, yes I do, but I also like Led Zep, the Who and Diana Ross, but I don't expect to be greeted by them, when visiting a guest house.

I was told that breakfast wasn't available, but toast could be made, and some pastries were available. I was happy to get breakfast when I got to work, but if I'd been on a leisure break, I'm not sure I'd have thought the same. 

The proprietor's husband is a keen Rolls Royce enthusiast, and runs a business, with the cars. I think he probably spends quite a bit if time in the garage, beneath the rooms, maintaining the cars. This could be problematic, if you don't like sudden noises, or the smell of paint/ thinners.

The TV in my room (3) was very small, and because of its age, modern TV programmes don't fit the screen properly, so you have a permanent 'letterbox' view, which makes a 17" screen even smaller. Obviously a TV of this vintage doesn't come with usb/ hdmi, for any dongles. Each room does have a Sky box, which should give enough choice for most.

Payment was taken on arrival, and this was quick and easy (by card). The broadband is fast enough for most wireless needs, so should be fine if you are watching Netflix on your device. Parking is available to the front of the property, on a broad gravel frontage. The bed I slept in was firm and comfortable (£1000 apparently!).



Pleasant Rooms Flamboyant Proprietor

I’ve stayed here for just over a month on business and have always been made to feel extremely welcome.  Jackie and Roger are perfect hosts and I feel like I have made a lasting friendship.  I will often pop in to have a chat with Jackie who always welcomes you with a hug and a smile. Fabulous hospitality, with hosts that are there if you need them or if you fancy a catch up, but who give you the flexibility to come and go as you please!

The establishment is in a quiet location, out of the way from the hustle and bustle of the town, but conveniently located, just a short drive from town, local retail parks and Sainsburys for those much needed essentials!

The accommodation is spotlessly clean, rooms are well appointed with everything you need, and well thought out in terms of layout.  The rooms are of good quality and tastefully decorated making it a comfortable, home from home, restful environment.

The breakfast room has a quaint cottage style feel with pastries, cereals, bread, fruit, crumpets and pancakes, toaster and microwave.  You are able to eat in and relax  or grab and go if you prefer.  Jackie allows you to bring your own food into the establishment, and even recommends local takeaways, as well as places to eat out.

As a woman travelling alone, I wanted accommodation which was in a safe location, quiet, safe and secure and obviously clean and modern. I wasn’t disappointed on any of these fronts and would happily recommend this b&b to anyone visiting the area.

Very warm welcome from the lovely Jackie, excellent customer service. Would highly recommend a visit for work or pleasure. We were up and off to work before breakfast but could help ourselves to cereals, toast, bagels, croissants and jam tea and coffee fresh fruit. Nice little village pub down the road for an evening meal and liquidations
