Spent the night here after a family party. Very cosy room, beautifly decorated. Reccomend to anyone. Hosts and staff very friendly generally  a lovely locals pub. And only a stepping stone away From Chester.  It's got to be worth a try, dog friendly too.

Family night

I stayed here this week as I travelled from West Sussex to Tarvin to see a friend.  I can certainly recommend this pub for an overnight stay.  The landlord is very friendly and accommodating, the room clean and spacious with a huge bathroom.  Lovely pub full of friend locals too.  Thanks for a lovely stay.  We'll be back! Sarah and Jason

Lovely friend pub

Stayed here over night the couple who run it are lovely friendly and very welcoming. The room and bathroom was lovely and clean. Breakfast wasn’t included in the stay but you can pay for breakfast which was cheap and absolutely lovely very fresh and plenty of it. We will definitely be staying here again it’s ideal if you don’t feel like going out to different pubs, there is a pub across the road so you could have a couple there and then go back to the lion and have a few there and stumble to bed. 

Over night stay

This was a visit to meet up with a friend. What a surprisingly spacious room and bathroom for what is, essentially, a village pub (no offence intended). I have been in top hotels that offer less room. I had a wonderful nights sleep and when I had to leave the following morning Jill offered me things to help me de-ice my car too| That, to me. is beyond normal hospitality! The drinks are more than reasonably priced too. At the price for the room it's the best value I've found for ages,

Post office and shops just around the corner

Overnight stop

The room was top notch  very neat and tidy .Simon and Jill were always willing to help in other areas such as w  ashingand lending us a microwave . They have also lent us books to read in the past as well.
Just 6m iles out of thecity of Chester as well and the bus stop just a minute walk away

We stayed here for on a Saturday night whilst attending the open air theatre.  There was entertainment on during that night but we were back quite late and it didn’t disturb us.  We were fully advised about the entertainment prior to booking.  The room was basic but spotless, with plenty of room for a family.  The bathroom was huge and had a lovely bath as well as a separate shower.  There was also tea and coffee facilities provided.  Ordered breakfast and it was cooked to order and as a consequence was fresh and extremely tasty. It’s true to say that this hotel is primarily a public house with rooms and as a consequence does not have the facilities of a large hotel.  Don’t let this put you off,   What really sets the hotel  out though is the hospitality given by Jill & Simon, who went over and above what you would normally expect . We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Red Lion and would definitely stay there again and cannot recommend it highly enough.

Excellent stay,  wonderful hospitality

We stayed here for a night whilst visiting Chester and the surrounding area. What a lovely little gem of a place.

As soon as we walked through the door we were welcomed by the landlord and land lady - they couldn't have been more friendly. The pub had some lovely beers on tap and the locals were very welcoming. 

We stayed the night and the bedroom was really comfortable and breakfast was, again superb. If we are in the area again we will definitely re-visit.

Lovely nights stay

I was travelling with a 3 other ladies and we were on our way up to the netball World Cup and staying in Tarvin the night before. We were running late to watch the England match and so I rang ahead to The Red Lions and asked if they were showing the netball. Richard was ever so helpful and accommodating and because we were late for the start he recorded the game for us so we were able to watch it from the beginning. Not only that - when he put the match on - the locals very kindly moved seats so we could see the TV. Couldn’t ask for a more caring host (and his wife) and the refreshments were ideal and very reasonably priced. All in all - would look to stay at this hotel if we made another trip up north. Went above and beyond during a short visit.

Lovely comfortable room. Simon  and Jill were a really lovely friendly couple and made us very welcome. Breakfast very reasonable price and all cooked fresh. Also all the local people we met in the hotel were very friendly. Highly recommend.
