I've stayed in hotels all over the world and this small affordable one is completely unique. Clearly recently refurbished the single downstairs rooms which I usually use are modern, clean and comfortable. From the outside it doesn't look very special but as soon as you walk through the door you are greeted by a friendly reception team. Emma and Meghan are the two I've had the pleasure of speaking to several times and they are both amazing. Friendly, funny down to earth whilst remaining professional and in my opinion exactly how a hotel should be. All of the staff are great not just reception, they will go out of their way to help/advise and guide where needed. I hope your experience there is as good as mine have been :) 

Fab affordable hotel right in the heart of Taunton

I’m writing this review laying in bed awake here. Absolutely awful establishment and i’d urge anyone reading this to stay elsewhere. 

We arrived yesterday and were shown to room 39, allegedly a ‘family’ room. After around a few mins of being in there room I commented that it smelled of exhaust fumes and assumed it was because the windows were open and it overlooked the main road outside. However, post a few minutes the smell seemed to worsen. 

After an evening out with family were returned and the room stank to high heaven of exhaust fumes, despite the windows being closed for the 6 or 7 hours we were away.

I’m now laying in bed at 01.34 with the windows open, to alleviate what i think is toxic fumes worrying about my son in the other bed.

Given it’s November, this is clearly why the windows were open upon out arrival.

I’ll be calling the relevant authorities as soon as it’s daytime.

Being a bit crap is one thing, being dangerous is another.

 I would like to highly thank your member of staff the manager Megan.  For being such a lovely member of staff , my boyfriend is staying at the hotel and she is going above and beyond to look after my boyfriend and help him out and it is amazing to see how amazingly kind your member of staff is.
Her hard work and dedication to the job she has is incredible! 👏

We stayed as a couple for a weekend in the area. We arrived Friday and booked in easily. The staff are all friendly. 
We had room No11 it was a smaller room, but it is big enough. The room was well presented and very clean. The downside was the lack of natural light. There is a small window leading to an alley. Which you can open. The room did get stuffy after a shower, so this is helpful.
The shower is on the small side, but I have had smaller in hotels. The toliet top had to be lifted after we flushed the toliet as it didn't pop back out or you were listening to the water constantly.
The room is right of the reception, so we sat with the TV on quiet, loud as we felt like we were in the reception. We were very aware that we could hear everything going on in reception. Which made us feel like they could hear us too. Also, the door lock was a pain. It definitely needs sorting.
Overall, it's not a bad hotel. If you are looking for somewhere just to rest your head. If you like the quiet more, I would check what room you are booked into. 
We visited Gurkha 3 over the road. Well worth a visit, great food. Morrisons is a very short walk away, and there is a good pub on the corner. The Ale House. Which does good pub grub, too. It's a short walk to town and close to the cricket ground.

Me and my husband stayed here after our wedding day! We turned up and all the members of staff was so helpful and kind, nothing was a bother. We entered our room and it was so clean and bed was super comfy! Next morning we asked the staff what was around as the town was unfamiliar, they couldn’t have been more helpful! Check out was so easy aswell! We hope to be able to come back soon! I want to especially say thank you to Meghan for everything after our wedding day!

Amazing top friendly staff

I have really enjoyed my stay at ‘The Royal Ashton’ Meg at reception has been absolutely outstanding, nothing is too much for Meg. 10/10 customer service skills. The hotel is fantastic value for money and Meg is an asset to the hotel: friendly, kind, professional and welcoming a real ambassador. 👍

Had the most wonderful stay at the Ashton. 
We told them it was our anniversary prior to staying and they went above and beyond . 
Our room was decorated romantically by the lovely house keeper Nora. 
It really was a fabulous surprise. 
Thank you so much for a great stay. 
We will definitely return soon.

Anniversary

My Daughter and I have stayed here before but lately the hotel is becoming more and more run down. We checked in to room 26 (I see there is already a review of this room on here) and saw a huge crack in the ceiling but this kind of thing is normal at this very 'spartan' hotel. The 'fun' came on the Saturday night (of a two night stay). Arriving back around 9pm we could not open the door properly, when I pushed in imagine my surprise and concern at seeing half the ceiling had come down onto the floor and onto one of the beds. Imagine if my Daughter had been in bed or directly under this when it crashed down? We were given a different room that night but my Daughter was too distraught to stay imagining what 'could have been' so went home. I stayed but was offered little apology and no offer of refund from hotel management or owners.  Please, please do not stay here. It is an unsafe antiquated building with uncaring staff and owners. Do yourself a favour when in Taunton, pay a little more and avoid this unsafe dinosaur of an establishment.

After good communication prior to arrival I found very friendly staff and a clean and nice room to stay. I cosy kitchenette  surprised me. Accomodation only. No breakfast. But offers not far away. Ask for romm in the back

I would love to come back

Great accommodation, great price and very friendly staff .
Will be my go to when in Taunton again .the twin premier room was great with a door in between the beds ideal . Fridge , hot plates in room also a microwave.
