We’d booked in advance for a large family Sunday lunch, unfortunately the booking had not been recorded in the diary. 
However the landlady turned things around  and changed our disappointment to satisfaction by seating us in a private dining room and serving excellent tasty roasts. There was a good selection of deserts and you have the chance to win a free desert by rolling a 7 with 2 dice which is a nice extra. 
We also used the sandwich takeaway service - the selection baguettes were fresh, tasty and good value for money. 
Friendly attentive staff on both visits to the Inn. 

Tasty meals 

Self catering chalets around the back of the pub. The lounge/kitchen was okay, very basic, but we only needed a good bed for the night, but we were VERY disappointed to find the bed was as hard as rocks, I have never had a bed like that before.  I tried sleeping on top of the scatter cushions to make it softer but that was not much good, my husband slept on top of the Duvet to make it softer and that was not much better, then we had no bedding to cover him.  The pillows were like bricks.  In the middle of the night we thought about getting up and continuing on our journey it was that uncomfortable.  I also think the place was haunted.  Needless to say we will not be staying there again.  No wi-fi.

Very, Very Hard Bed, and Pillows, Worst nights stay ever,

We stayed at the hotel for 4 nights and where very disappointed with the standard of accommodation the room we had was very basic and indeed of decorating as it was very tired. The tv could receive ITV and it perched on a old table surely a nice tv stand would look better, also we where on available there was no WiFi in the room only in the pub which days is normally standard.
The food in the pub was very expensive for what is was and the wine also very over priced, the menu was very simple and normally on pub menu there you expect to steaks or gammon but either appeared.
There seamed no manager present at any time in the evening and on 3 occasions we did eat there was lack of staff one member of staff seemed to doing everything running the bar, serving meals taking orders clearing tables and even taking payment for the guest accommodation he young lad who served us was working very hard remained very pleasant and courteous all the time, it not is fault the lack management.
What could been a very nice place to was let down serious lack of care and a small about of investment could make it much better.
We would not consider staying there again or earring either.

Below average of expectations

I was a little worried having read some of the other recent reviews of the Whitestonecliffe Inn. But my worries were ill-founded.  We stayed in Sunrise Cottage and I would agree that it could do with a bit of an update but it was clean and comfortable - no damp to be seen - and well equipped - particularly liked the towels which were v. soft and the sheets - crisp and white.  I would have liked a more powerful shower but it was fine and a bit more space between the beds in the twin room but for a short stay it was fine.  We did no cooking in the cottage, beyond grilling some sausages for a sandwich, but everything worked fine.  The views from the cottage were amazing and our nine year old loved the horses grazing in the field just outside the door.  We ate in the pub twice and both times thought the food was great.  I thought the staff were helpful and polite.  The location is good for exploring the Dales and the Moors and is just 10 minutes away from Thirsk where you can find all amenities.  I've scored the property 4 out of 5 which I'd say was 3 for the property and an extra 1 for the location, the views and the experience at the Whitestonecliffe Inn.

Good base for a weekend away

The lodges and pub get good reviews, why this is the case I have no idea! The pub is ok but in need of a refurb. It's old and tired looking but not in a good way. Staff are fine & friendly but unfortunately this is were the good points end.

The main issue is with the lodges at the back of the pub. The car park is in the centre with lodges around the perimeter, rather like a Motel. On arrival you get check in details through the pub. Instructions straight forward, your given a code for a little box on the wall next to the door where you will find your key.

On opening the door my little girl commented she thought the place smelt 'old', unfortunately i had to agree. The lodge was very dated with poor quality electrical appliances. The 2nd bedroom was tiny, more like a box room. On further examination the interior wall was covered by a room divider. On lifting this from the wall there was extensive damp & mould issues, not good. The damp issue also extended into the small hallway behind the bedroom door. The bathroom was dingy and dark with no storage for toiletry items. The shower door could be opened from the outside but once inside you had to reach over the top to close it as no handle existed on the interior.

There was no wifi in the lodges, only the pub itself, ridiculous! The front door didn't look overly secure with a single lock. I was kept awake until 03:00 by the next door lodge guests with noisy behaviour  & abusive language, not nice but not the owners fault to be fair! The room overlooked the car park mainly so don't expect unspoilt country views! 

We also ate in the pub that evening. The food was acceptable but nothing special. The reviews of this establishment are generally very positive but for the life of me can't think why! In my opinion I'm afraid i just did not see this. It was easily only worth half what we paid for this drab old run down place. If you want value and good quality accommodation i strongly suggest you look elsewhere.

We left early the next Morning and put the key back in it's little box next to the door. I really should have complained to the owners regarding some of the issues mentioned in this review but just left it at that in the end. What more can i say.... :(

Good location for exploring the dales and the moors. Clean and functional but needs some tlc.  Bed ‘built in’ to the wardrobe so no bed side cabinets to put specs, watch etc. nice view from our unit

We wanted a quiet get away we got that! Quaint, quiet, clean and peaceful with the most beautiful views! At a good price too! The young lady who worked in the pub could not of been more polite and helpful also, it was warm and inviting. We didn’t eat in the pub but the food looked very good, needless to say we will be back,

Whitestonecliffe inn

Stayed for 3 nights over Christmas, and the welcome was lovely, warm and welcoming.  The we booked in for evening meal on arrival, and OMG we were not disappointed!!  Lamb shank was heaven, and the hubby had steak pie and peas, said it was mouth watering!  The beauty and charm of the interior, log fire, xmas tree and decs, beautiful!  Comfy cottage, warm, plenty of room, comfy bed, clean bathroom, loo blocked a couple of times, but we sorted it.  The only negative was the kitchen, we had to go ask for sharp knives, peeler, etc, so unless it changes in the very near future, take extra pans and cutlery. 2 pans and 2 frying pans is fine for two of you. The WiFi doesn't reach the rooms, but there is free WiFi inside the pub.
Would I recommend it? YES!  Would we go back? ABSOLUTELY!!
The locals and all the staff are so warm and welcoming, we had a stunning view of the hills and local animals from out window, we were very lucky!  It made for a lovely relaxing stay! Thank you!

CHARMING!!

We arrived very late around 10pm but the owner waited for us and let us have two "cabins" each with two bedrooms and a bathroom. Superb view, comfortable beds, good kitchen and cosy and super clean interior. Unfortunately as we were always wondering about with our van we did not get the chance to sample the pub's fare which we understand is great!

Fabulous stay at The Whitestonecliffe Inn!

Cottages either side of pub car park.  So some had a view, others did not. The view is rather special - if you get it!  (Suggest you ask when booking). Quite nicely decorated - nice settees - more like a modern bungalow than a cottage - reasonably comfortable - shower pressure temperamental - given an average rating as think on the pricey side for the accommodation.
