Only went in as we saw a sign saying they served English breakfasts.  We were shunted to plain wooden tables (the nicely laid out ones were ''reserved for B & B guests''), and presented with the menu. We asked for a Latte and a pot of tea. The Latte was simply a coffee with milk and the pot of tea just about managed a single cup. The breakfast was awful, overcooked (burnt around the edges) strong smelling smoked bacon, cold beans which were dry on top (looked like they had been sitting under a heat lamp), one single mushroom, overcooked, hard eggs, all in all a great disappointment, I ate virtually nothing but the person serving us was totally disinterested. She presented us with a full bill, heading towards £ 30, despite my returning a full, uneaten plate, which I paid. I did explain however, that there would be no tip and that I would make sure she got a full and honest review. Again she seemed totally disinterested.   If you like good food and value your digestive system, please avoid this place at all costs. Very expensive overcooked rubbish !!!

Overcooked breakfast.  A disgrace to the industry.

For pub accomodation for one this was faultless. Clean, well decorated and maintained. Friendly. Dinner available even for a late arrival. Good breakfast. Reasonable price. My only comment - the room would have been a bit small for two. I could not have asked for more than was delivered. High quality for its class. Road in front was not a problem. 

Ticked every box

First time at the Rose and Crown for a long time; service was fantastic and the food was excellent. 
The menu on offer gave us all a good choice of meals and wasn’t full of steaks! 
I had the Rose and Crown Burger which was exceptionally tasty; and it was so good to be served home made coleslaw. 
We will be back 😃

Excellent

So room 6.....  beams are low so you bang your head. The floor has a huge slope so the chair falls over when you put your jacket it on it.  The desk is ot for working  on as it has a microwave  on it.   The shower is low due to ceiling  hight, the WiFi did not work etc etc

But omg the noise  from the road.  This is terrible. Try getting  a tent a put it on the m25 to get an idea how bad it is.

No normal  coffee  at breakfast. I did ask but after 3 attempts  gave up. I was offered  more decaffeinated  though!!!

This place looks great but omg is not practical  at all.  The road noise  and low beams makes staying  here pointless

We were visiting the Westcliff Theatre for an Elton John tribute evening and picked this pub out to stay in. It was really quaint and the staff were amazing. Everything was perfect we will definitely go back.

One night stay, very impressed

Location of the B&B is ideal for exploring the surrounding areas, we just parked the car and used public transport to get from one place to the other. 
Our room as nice and spacious with tea and coffee facilities, air conditioning unit. 
The breakfast was great and so was the evening meals we had. The staff could have not done anymore for us, they are friendly, polite and professional. They did make our stay comfortable and if asked when asked they provided us with local information etc. 
The village itself is small, has a few shops and a couple of bars. Well worth a visit and well worth a stay at the Rose & Crown.

Week at the Rose & Crown

We booked in for 3 nights last week, We were taken to our room and asked if it was ok and was there anything we needed. The room was spotless and the bed was comfortable . I ended up in the bar area and sat by a lovely  log burner drinking a fantastic pint of Guinness.The  barman Josh was extremely polite as was Sara the manager . Next morning after a good nights sleep we were given a fantastic fresh breakfast and all the staff made our stay enjoyable.

We booked a two  night stay here and received a very warm welcome . Lovely comfortable bar and outside areas with good covid safety compliance.  We enjoyed a lovely pub meal on one evening and had a wonderful stay overall.

Visited on the 5 march despite arriving all wet and bedraggled the staff made us really welcome
A varied menu was on offer all at a reasonable price i chose the pie and mash which came with a good selection of fresh vegetables it was delicious
There is a well appointed dining area and a comfortable bar area with a good choice of drinks The pub is located roughly half way between Colchester and the east coast resorts of Clacton and Walton on the Naze, well worth a visit

Ramblers lunch

Booked tickets to see Pink tribute act. £10 per ticket.  Nobody was checking for tickets and people were just walking in. No tea, coffee or mince pies at end of meal even tho it stated there was and we were charged. Waitress told us the machine had been switched off. So disappointed.  Got the bill and was charged 2x £34.99 misc food which we didn't have! Good job we checked before we paid. All in all a very disappointing night.  Just glad I had great company . I wouldn't want to stay in hotel where I couldn't order a coffee!
