Food was very good, from scratch fish cakes, the room however was not, tiny bed and dirty bathroom, very sad as our tour had chosen this hotel for two nights, needs some upgrades. Needs to be updated felt like something from the 1960.

Mixed review 

Loved this small, family run hotel. It was spotless and the staff was very helpful and friendly. The rooms are small but very clean and with everything you need. The breakfasts and dinners were excellent. Highly recommend and hope to return!

Great small, family run hotel.

Tiny room, tiny bath and shower could not move. Old hotel. They tried to modernize it. Bath floor slopes down, floor outside bathroom sink in. We were on a group tour. Old town. Young people serving in dining room. 13 ur old took our drink orders.

Old Hotel

Went for dinner.   Starters were good, main course of fish and chips came with breaded haddock, chips however not home made by the looks of it.  No vegetables or salad at all on the plate or no side dish and came with a small dish of what looked like tartar sauce.  Eton mess was quite sloppy, no fresh fruit through it and appeared to be fruit flavoured cream with meringue crushed through it.  For what we paid I would say and sorry to say it was quite poor really.

Dinner at hotel

Stayed here before but not for a long time. The rooms on the top floor seem to have had a refresh since my last visit. No complaints at all about the room, tv didn’t work second night but it wasn’t a deal breaker for me. Shower pressure could have been better but was totally adequate to get cleaned up. 
Food tasted lovely but portions not the biggest.
Breakfast could definitely do with being bigger especially for a worker, on the second day when the hotel was mobbed breakfast was even more disappointing, tatie scones cut in half! really disappointed me as it tasted lovely. All staff were great. No real deal breaking complaints, just wee gripes, would happily stay again.

Nice but a few little things

When I was speaking to the manager she was very rude and didn’t answer any of my questions in a helpful way. She got her employees to clean up and she just stood and watched. I also heard her be quite rude towards one of the younger female staff which was a shame.

Unkind manager but excellent service and food

Basic, but clean room in quiet street in Thurso. The evening meal and breakfast was more than adequate and the the hotel staff friendly and helpful. Scrabster where the ferry leaves for Orkney is only a 10 min drive away.

There is no doubt about it-for two people with luggage on a two-week tour, this room is cramped. There is a bed, side tables, and a desk with chair. There is little room for you to open your luggage and no place to really put anything. I will give them a vote of thanks for having an outlet near the bed. When you have a CPAP machine, that is vital.
The bath is small and there are no washcloths. However, the provided toiletries that are in large, attached bottles smell terrific.
The food was fine, but the desserts were not much to talk about.
There are stairs and no lift, but there are evidently a couple of ground floor rooms.

Know what you are getting

The hotel is small and family owned but that added to the charm of this quaint lodging.  The hotel is clean and the staff is friendly.  The rooms were small but the beds were comfortable.  Unfortunately, it is not air-conditioned but none of the hotels in Scotland had air-conditioning except a Hilton type hotel.  I would stay here again if visiting the area.

Charming

Found the rooms at this location to be very cramped for two travelers with luggage. There were no USB ports to charge devices which was a challenge with two travelers. For North American travelers, you may want to pack a face cloth and hair conditioner because none were provided. Had trouble keeping our window at this location which was a disappointment. There was no breakfast buffet, but rather order upon request. Be specific as to how many eggs, sausages, etc. otherwise you get one of each. The wait staff was too rushed and literally took your utensils away before you were finished with them.
