A very disappointing experience. We booked on line but when we arrived found that we were seated in what can only be described as a draughty tent up in the garden. This may have been fine in summer but it was a wet windy day. The food had to be brought from the kitchen in the pub, through the wind and rain, far from ideal!  The toilets were also naturally in the main building - need I say more!  The staff were very helpful but the food was mediocre.  Don’t think we will be returning.

A disappointing experience. 

We wanted to end 2023 with a lovely Sunday lunch, so we visited the Cott, one of our Sunday favourites. As it was New Years Eve afternoon, they had a marquee set up in the garden but we were lucky enough to have a table inside the pub. Previously, the meals had always been fabulous. It was the first time, I felt disappointed with the food. We got off to a good start though, as our starters were delicious. The problem was with the mains. I had roast pork but it was so thinly sliced, it wasn't much thicker than packet meat you buy from a supermarket. The roast potatoes reminded me of school dinner roast that were more boiled than roasted. The apple sauce was just normal off the shelf sauce whereas before it felt homemade. My husband was disappointed with his beef as it was very thinly sliced as well. We would have preferred one thick slice instead of three very thin slices, trying to stretch it out. The Yorkshires were so hard and dry inside, they shattered. I tried to soften them up with gravy but it didn't really help. Hopefully it was a one off and they were  pacing themselves for a busy day ahead. However, our table was at 12:00, before it got too busy so I am not quite sure why it wasn't that great. I will always return to the Cott as the staff are wonderful, its a beautiful pub but on this occasion some of the food wasn't the best it could have been.

Sunday lunch

Popped in for a drink on our way home from an event. The welcome was tepid at best. We knew we had not much time until closing. We were given a 5 minute warning of closure ... fine. I went to the toilet before leaving; lights were off in the cubicles and I had to use the torch on my phone. When I exited the building, the staff almost smacked my back with the door on as I left. I truly regret having spent £17.30 on two pints of bitter, a half of cider and a diet coke to have been treated in this way by my local pub. Friendly? Not!

Friendly ..... I think not!

I've just enjoyed a lovely stay at the Cott Inn. A very comfortable bed, delicious food and friendly, efficient service.  The music on Sunday evening was an added bonus and created a great atmosphere. 

Lovely stay at the  Cott Inn

Amongst the best customer service we have ever experienced, from all members of staff that we encountered. The food was also very much a cut above anything we have had from other establishments masquerading as gastro pubs. We were celebrating our 47th wedding anniversary and a birthday during our three night stay and we very much enjoyed our stay. Why did I deduct a point? In a  effort to be fair. The rooms are about the best that can be achieved in a quaint thatched property of this age. Access to the rooms is via a choice of two tight spiral staircases with limited head room that would be a challenge for elderly or infirm. Would I stay here again? Yes, without hesitation. Celebration 3 night stay 

I have stayed in The Cott Inn a few times, always been made welcome with my dogs. The food is second to none, well cooked, tasty, imaginative and good sized portions (I took home half my chicken dish). One day we arrived late in the afternoon (too late for lunch) but they cooked us a couple of pizzas (again, I asked for half to be boxed up for later). Staff are friendly and nothing is too much trouble.

Never let’s you down

Flippin’ ’eck, we arrived at this beautiful looking pub this morning to have some lunch, greeted by the owner and the staff was lovely & accommodating, having been to many of the eateries in Totnes and Kingsbridge this place was the most special of them all not only reasonably priced but jaw-droppingly beautiful! The building itself was immaculate as were the insides and tables.

Let’s start with the burger, I had a Dartington Ruby Red burger, seeded brioche bun, tomato chutney, skinny fries, with Monterey Jack cheese, every bite was special and held up to what you would think a 10/10 burger would taste like there is nothing around this area with the same quality or taste so trust me when I say, cancel your plans anywhere else and give this amazing spot a try and don’t get to ask for an extra serving of the tomato chutney! 

My friend had the Seafood chowder a selection of Plymouth-landed fish, cooked in white wine, fennel, saffron & cream, grilled sourdough, lobster aioli

I couldn’t help but try some of the muscles which were absolutely out of this world.

With huge smiles on our faces when we left we know that we made the absolute right idea of picking this place for our day out. all in all, everything was more amazing than you could ever imagine a big thank you to the chef and the staff for making our lunch so wonderful

Fantastic Sunday lunch. Myself and my girlfriend decided to book, as we know the pub quite well.

I’m an amateur cook, so I’m always a bit critical. Nothing to be critical about at this pub. The food was excellent, and the right amount. A great selection of freshly cooked vegetables. 

I had beef, which was tender, and my girlfriend had chicken; again perfectly cooked. Locally sourced products treated with respect.

I paid £16.95 per meal, but well worth the money spent.

I recommend it big time!!!

Fantastic Sunday Lunch

On Friday 6th January my husband and i ate in the restaurant and what a fantastic experience it was from start to finish. We had booked a table for 7.45 and at the time i stated it was for a special occasion but was still surprised to find we were shown to a fantastic table. Our waitress for the evening was amazing, i believe her name was Jasmine ( training as a teacher)and she could not have been more helpful as were all the other staff. We both chose starters: i had the scallops and my husband had the prawn and crab dish both if which were really tasty and generous in proportion. For the main course we both chose the Sea-bass from the specials board which was so fresh and we loved the crushed potato that came with it.? We travel to dome lovely places in England and carefully choose some outstanding restaurants often using the good food guide to help select them but we had heard about The Cott Inn from a local and i have to say it is a hidden gem in South Devon. We liked it do much we will be returning as part if our frequent trip to South Devon and particularly Totnes. Thankyou to all the front if house staff and the great chef and his team for making it a great night, only wish we didn't live in Nottinghamshire then we could go more frequently

Outstanding food and service at the Cott Inn

We were a little early in arriving just before 12noon ,but we’re greeted in a very friendly manner by three of the team members who were all charming and knowledgeable . 
We sat and ordered a round of drinks ,3 mulled wine and a gin and tonic before ordering our starters and main courses. 
A nice atmosphere aided and abetted by the charming and witty team . 
The food we were served was excellent , and I’m going to say the steak and ale pie was delicious! Now some food snobs would be asking the questions why the pie 🥧 it was totally out of character in what I would normally go for .but I’m extremely pleased to say it was awesome . The pan cooked sea bass was also very good on the information received from the ladies in our group . 
Well done all the team for making it a very nice and enjoyable early Christmas Lunch .
