We had dinner in the restaurant. 
Excellent service and very good well cooked food...looking out over the bay was a delight. 
The fish pie is to die for...
Good value for sure .An experience...a.must have on a visit to this harbour village.....

It's about as good as it gets

We had dinner at the St Mawes hotel last night. It was a birthday dinner for my husband . The staff made the experience very special with lovely touches including champagne. The food and service were exceptional and much appreciated. The restaurant’s atmosphere is cosy, comfortable and friendly. We will certainly return.

We came for Sunday lunch and they managed to get us a table which was great. Liam was so helpful and on the ball with everything he was fantastic. We had Amy serving us at the table and she was so lovely and very efficient. We only really have lamb when we go out for a meal as it is a treat and we was really looking forward to it however it really wasn't great, it was so tough. The potatoes where lovely and the salsa verda was yummy but when you are paying for the most expensive meal on the menu you expect it to be topnotch. We both wished we had the roast beef as that looked yummy.

Sunday lunch

Well, where do I start?  We drove all the way down to Lizard (about five hours) for a booking we had made through Secret Escapes only to find the hotel there didnt have our booking.  The manager was so rude and unhelpful and really not bothered about our predicament so we left and I remembered driving through St Mawes once and thinking how lovely this hotel looked.  I jumped online on the car and booked - we drove straight there.
The reception we received could NOT have been more different!  We were greeted by the utterly charming Lydia who asked if we had had a good day so far, when we told her our story she immediately upgraded us to their best room, we couldn't believe it!  We then got offered a couple of drinks on the house and tickets to their private cinema that night, anyone would think the Lizard problem was their fault!
We sat in the beautiful upper deck bar looking out to sea and were incredibly well looked after by Matt who was new to the role but so welcoming.
We stayed three nights and it was genuinely one of the nicest stays I have ever had - from staff recommendations of where to eat (Lydia even booked a local pub for us), where to visit (thanks for the ferry to Falmouth tip), the suggestions of what to order  from the menu, the company of the staff and locals at the bar, I couldn't fault anything, and I am a fussy guest.  We cant wait to go back, what a stunning place.

One of the nicest places I have ever stayed, and thats saying something!

Really delicious and substantial pizza, the atmosphere is always great even when it’s not busy. We watched 2 Six Nations matches in their wonderful Secret Cinema too.
Excellent Guinness was enjoyed also. They have superb background music playing with even a speaker outside.

A warming visit in early February.

Excellent two night stay here. Wonderful view over the harbour. Staff were very friendly and welcoming, although seemed quite over-worked and had to run up and downstairs from kitchen to 1st floor dining room. Really enjoyed all our meals - excellent dinners and wonderful lunch on the terrace looking out across the estuary. A very special place and look forward to returning one day. 

Delightful hotel with wonderful views

We went for dinner. We arrived early. Impressive welcome from lady who remembered me from day before including my name. We were shown to a table upstairs which had open windows & views of harbour . The seats however were disappointing. Bucket shaped armchairs which were too low for me & offered no back support. I asked for a cushion, which the waiter promptly bought.  I sat on it which helped. Then a friendly helpful man staying at the hotel, said   “know exactly the problem.I have it too” & rushed off to find another plump cushion for my back. That was much better. The chairs are not really suitable for sitting upright & eating, especially if you are small. 
Out meal was served promptly and we were not rushed. The quality was ok but not outstanding though nicely presented & the staff had been trained in silver service. The atmosphere was pleasant until a party of 2 children & 3 adults arrived at the next table. The children were extremely badly behaved & the adults were loud. They shrieked & screamed. The whole time, with no regard for others around them. The man at the next table pulled a face at one point. These situations are very difficult when adults are completely selfish with no attempt at discipline. 
Our evening was ruined so we ate as quickly as we could & left. When our bill arrived there was a 15% charge added which bumped up the price considerably. & gave us no choice but to pay it.   I was not happy with that, so we will not be returning.

Excellent service but with reservations

The room is spacious, with modern bathroom and large dimensions. You enter from the bar on the ground floor, the reception is normally unattended. Very nice the dining room where breakfast is also served which is excellent, as well as good is the restaurant.

Good experience.

Usually excellent but this summer it’s a bit odd. We love coming here but the menu has not changed for several months. I am sure we are not the only ‘regulars’ to St Mawes  but even the specials have generally remained the same.

We were even more bewildered with their new rule on 1.5 hours only per reservation - if you are going to impose this on every table, you need to have a swift front of house service and not serve food 20 mins before the 1.5 hours is up - even more confusing is the booking says you have 2 hours!

Come on the St Mawes Hotel - regroup and provide the service  and food you have done previously.

Strange experience

We visited the bar, beautiful decor, great selection of gins!  Admittedly we had just been swimming in the sea and although we were dry, we were scruffy. Bought our drinks and as the downstairs tables were booked for dinner we were told to go upstairs.   We chose a table that had no reservations and were enjoying the views and our drinks, it was 5:50.  A waitress had just come in shift   I noticed she gave us a look and 5 mins later asked if we had a reservation we said no, she said well then you have to leave - no warning no ok well we will need the table in 10 mins if you would like to finish your drinks - she spoke to us as if we were scum.   Both my husband and I are in our 50’s and have professional jobs - we were so embarrassed.    This is no way to treat anyone   We were considering booking dinner once we had changed for the evening but I would never go back there now - nobody should treat other people in this manner.    I complained to the bar man and he basically shrugged his shoulders as if it was ok.  I hadn’t even finished my drink.    Disgusting
