We wanted to get out of the bad weather and our campervan for the night and booked last minute. Connor made us feel at home with friendly banter. Had fun with a great crowd of locals. Rooms clean and warm. Dog friendly, open fire, good choice of drinks in the bar. Wish more hotel managers were as welcoming and jovial!

Friendly place 

On arrival I was slightly nervous as the reviews are very mixed. The manager I have to say was welcoming and honest, he informed us that the pub gets very busy and everyone from the other pubs finish their night in this hotel so to expect noise until 1am, he didn’t lie! The noise from outside was horrific, there were people screaming, singing, shouting and VOMITING whilst getting jeered on while bringing up the contents of their days food and drink! The rooms were tired and creaky, walls are paper thin , I heard the man next door fart! It was vile! This hotel was the most expensive of our trip, we paid £123 a night for a Luxury hotel in aberfeldy and this hotel had the cheek to charge us £150! Which didn’t include breakfast.  Do not go here if you want a decent sleep or if you are less able as the rooms are up some steep stairs. Such a shame to end our trip like this, this could be a stunning hotel if the owner would be prepared to change a few things. 

Oh dear

We had noted previous reviews but this was the only place with vacancies when we were looking for accommodation a few months ago.  Really wish we has not bothered.  This is not a hotel but a local pub with rooms. On the plus side, the rooms were furnished with nice bedding and towels and the bathroom was clean. However,  the room badly needed redecorating. The carpet was mingy, to the point it was crusty. Our room on the 2nd floor was stifling. The walls were paper-thin.  Doors were banging shut all the time from other guests. The worst experience however, was the noise from the revellers using the pub until the early hours.  The landlord apologised but that did nothing to stop the problem. It really is not a comfortable or restful stay but it was the most expensive of all the accommodation on our 2 week holiday. We have stayed in some wonderful places but we would not recommend this. 

Pretty awful

The staff at the bar are friendly and the breakfast was ok.  The place is expensive and needs money spending on it - even just the crap in the stairs.  All with breakfast for two of us on NC 500 (£99.98 premier Inn Dumbarton 5*), Station Inn Alness 5* £100) This was £171 - outrageous.  I don't think the owners care, there is limited accommodation in Ullapool so just spend nothing on the hotel and charge a fortune.  Scruffy and you stick to every surface you touch.  Take more time and look for a B&B

Nice Staff - Awful place

Popped in here for a nosh. Barman was friendly and we had haggis bonbons salad and rump lamb.
All were delicious. A very nice stop..... filled with locals and the occasional tourist which makes it even better!!!

Nice pub

Great location,   that’s  the good point, rooms were tired and and very dated, and certainly not cheap compared to similar priced Hotels on the NC500 route.
The bar below the bed rooms is noisy and what sounded like Karioke went on to 01.00 am.
We later discovered it’s where all the local revellers  head for after last orders.
Not cheap , not comfortable, certainly not quiet, not recommended..


Never again

We arrived around 3.30 at the hotel. It is written on booking.com that the check in is between 3.00 and 10.00
I told them 4 days ago when they asked that my approximate time of arrival would be around 5.00, which is an approximation as you know when you drive around Scotland. 
At 3.30, nobody was at the hotel. The lights were all off and the doors locked. 
We tried to call the reception multiple times on different numbers but no one answered the phone. We could hear it ringing through the door but the building was empty. 
After an hour we randomly met a lovely woman who owns a b&b nearby. She made calls to reach someone working at the hotel while she offered us some tea at her place. Thanks to her again ! 
After 30 minutes, someone finally answered and told her they were going to open the doors so we could check in. 
At our arrival at the hotel at 5.00, the guy that was here seemed completely lost. We got no apologies and he couldn’t even remember the price for the breakfast in the morning. 
We had room number 11 which was extremely dirty. There was mud on the floor and cigarets in the bedside table. Also the bathroom was dirty and there was still shampoo from the last guests. 
The bedsheet was stained.
Despite hating to do so we complained at the front desk. A nice guy apologised several times and gave us another room which was really cold but clean. 
We had a very cold night and the bed was not really confortable but it was ok just for a single night. 
The most incredible thing in this whole story is that it’s the most expensive hotel of our ten day trip. We won’t be coming back.

Most unprofessional hotel ever

This "hotel" is a dump.
We arrived in the pouring rain having followed directions to the car park which resembled a council rubbish tip. The fire-door was wide-open so we entered the building behind two other people who had arrived at the same time as us. We found ourselves in a pokey reception area cluttered with folded outdoor furniture and parcel deliveries but no sign of life. We rang the bell and waited; nobody came. The office phone was ringing, nobody answered it. The rest of the place was in darkness, the bar, kitchen, chairs on tables in the dining area, all deserted. There were a few keys on the counter, one key was labelled Room8 so we decided to find the room ourselves. The staircase was very dark until we turned a corner and a motion sensor light came on to reveal shabby carpet, damaged woodwork and shoddy repairs. Eventually we found Room8 on the top floor. Our hearts sank when we opened the door. The room was cold and uninviting, the carpet was badly stained, the walls painted ghastly dark brown with a greasy sheen. The bathroom was no better. There was no light switch, only the two-inch remnant of a cord dangling from the ceiling, fortunately we are both quite tall so were able to reach it by standing on tiptoes and stretching upwards. The toilet seat was falling off, the waste-bin was broken and although we didn't like the look of the shower our decision not to use it was based purely on the ambient temperature in this very cold room. There was no central heating except for a wall-mounted electric heater which didn't work. There was a portable oil-filled plug-in heater next to the bed, this 1.5KW appliance was totally inadequate for a room of this size but there was nothing else so we plugged it in and kept it switched on throughout the night.
After finding our own room, we went back down to our vehicle via the same door to get our luggage, when we tried to get back into the hotel we found someone had locked us out. We had no option but to walk around the block in the pouring rain to enter through the front door with our bags. Around 5pm we ventured outside to find a restaurant, (we had considered dining in the hotel until we actually saw the place). On our return we noticed a piece of paper stuck to one of the front windows, it said, "For arrivals before 4pm please check-in at the Ferry Boat Inn behind you". We hadn't seen the notice on arrival because we had followed their directions to the car park at the rear. Later on, we spent about an hour watching TV in the room but were so cold we decided to try and get some sleep and checkout as early as possible in the morning. We slept in our pyjamas, hoodies and socks with the little heater on full power but it was not a restful sleep and we left the hotel at 6.30 the following morning without seeing the view we'd paid extra for. The cost of our room was £104.50. Coincidentally the young man in the room next-door was leaving at the same time. We chatted whilst defrosting our cars, he told me he paid £42 for a similar room to ours with the same outlook I.e. a view over the harbour. He booked directly with the hotel, was also cold during the night and had also slept with the little oil-filled heater switched-on throughout.
Our experience at the Argyll Hotel has completely altered my opinion of Booking.com and destroyed my faith in their website.
I have used booking.com on several previous occasions but this is the first time I've needed to raise a complaint, their Customer Service and complaint-handling is poor to say the least.

DREADFUL. EMOTIONALLY DISTURBING. SCARY. A COMPLETE RIP-OFF

This wee Hotel does need some refurbishment.  However, the bed was clean (and more comfortable than my bed at home).  The Bar food was lovely. Breakfast very good.  Staff were very nice.  
p.s.  haven’t been to Ullapool for a few years and was sad to the deterioration of the Main Street (like a Ghost Town).

Argyll Hotel

This hotel is needing to be closed to allow a total overhaul its the most grubby I have stayed in .
The windows are not in good condition with handles missing  and broken 
Shower ceiling has artex on it which is crumbling and has holes in it 
Now the carpet I have never seen such a dirty carpet it was that bad I had to leave my shoes on absolutely disgusting 
I would avoid this hotel at all costs
