I’d recommend Swarthmoor Hall cottages as a comfortable base for exploring Ulverston and the surrounding area. I was there with a group of friends and we each had a comfortable bedroom with our own bathrooms. The communal  kitchen and lounge were well-equipped and fine for a group of 4/5 people. Beds were comfortable ( two double/2 single) and the whole house was clean and warm with some breakfast items left for our arrival. It’s a very peaceful place and has a large garden area with space to park. As we didn’t have a car we walked to and from town during the day and booked cabs for our evening trips to local eateries. An interesting location with lots of local history

Long weekend in Ulverston

We were extremely privileged to be the first guests renting a cottage after major works meant the cottages were closed. As four women ‘of a certain age’, comfort is very important to us and staying in the Wansfell Suite, with 4 bedrooms (each with its own bathroom which is most unusual in cottage hire or Airbnb) and very comfortable, 5 star hotel quality beds. Along with the usual towels, lovely bathrobes were provided which we were very pleased with! The communal kitchen and sitting room downstairs, with direct access to the gardens, provided us with plenty of room and comfortable chairs and sofas on which to lounge & natter while enjoying a morning coffee or evening glass of wine. We loved being able to enjoy the beautiful gardens and the meadow which when we were there were at peak purple crocus bloom.  The facilities were spotless and we appreciated the small touches such as the ample washing up liquid, dishwasher tablets, tea bags, jams and honey.  It was wonderful to wake up to bird song and the babbling brook.  As we didn’t have a car, we appreciated that the Hall is only a 12 minute walk via the path through the fields.  We found the local taxis very easy to use at nighttime when we needed a lift back from dinner or the pub. We would highly recommend these beautiful and well looked after cottages for everyone wanting a base from which to explore Ulverston.

Amazing & so comfortable!

We had a wonderful time staying in the Old Hall. The accommodation nicely blends some of the beautiful features of the old building with modern touches and facilities. All the rooms are a good size and it is so peaceful. The gardens and surrounds are lovely, and it is really well positioned. Ulverston is a very pleasant market town (and the start of the Cumbria Way), and you are close to the coast and lakes. The staff were very helpful and kind. We would certainly recommend without hesitation.

Week long stay in the Old Hall

What a magnificent place to stay. The last time we stayed it was in the main house and was amazing. This time we stayed in the newer building. The place was immaculately clean and presented with a lovely homely feel. The staff in the office were very helpful and very warm with their welcome. Many thanks to Belinda and other staff for their advice and information regarding visits and transport options. Kitchen facilities were fantastic and everything was to a very high standard. Breakfast was simple but beautifully presented, with a great range of jams, marmalades and cereals. I feel so relaxed after our stay at Swarthmore Hall. We are already planning our return visit to this wonderful and beautiful place. Thank you Swarthmore Hall!!!!

Oustanding!!!!

I recently stayed here on business for a night. When I booked it I hadn’t realised it was self catering, but as someone trying to lose a bit of weight being able to cook my own dinner was a real advantage.

Knowing the area, I popped back into the car and drove down to Booths, the local supermarket and grabed some dinner. The kitchen had just enough stuff in it to allow me to cook and clean up after myself and there was space for me to do a bit of work in the evening to.

The room was spacious enough, and simply but nicely appointed.

Again the bathroom was simple but had everything in it that I needed. The shower was an electric shower, which didn’t bother me but much bother some.

I think this place was a really great find and I shall definitely staying here again.

No tv in rooms but that wasn't a problem as a lovely lounge was available if you wanted to relax witch had a TV

Amazing find

Found this place on booking.com was really well priced. The room was really really nice in a lovely conversion just next to the old hall. The hall itself was really interesting and the gardens beautiful. The staff were so friendly and helpful also. Would highly recommend this place. The view out our room was amazing too. 

Gem of a place

A lovely place to stay. Tastefully decorated & as another reviewer commented, i'd like to go home & remodel our house on it!
Peaceful surroundings & accommodation. No TV in rooms but one in the lounge area, if you can't bear to be without it. Kitchen also there for food you want to bring in.
Toiletries, towels, bed all very nice. Well worth the money & beats a hotel/B&b experience hands down (of the one's I can afford to stay at anyway!)
My only complaint is that I was only there for one night.
