Beautiful hotel set in lovely countryside surroundings. 
First class food and service. Lovely rooms and the staff cannot do enough for you. 
Special thanks to barman Mitchell and our young waiter Harry. 
Lovely Spa attached with amazing views.

Top service.

Beautiful manor , beautiful furniture and decor in keeping with the house. Service impeccable, staff all very friendly and welcoming. Breakfast very well presented. Evening meals superb , very fine quality, serving staff very attentive.

A magical weekend stay

The best hotel we have stayed in near Barnstaple in the years we have been visiting elderly parents. The setting is beautiful, the atmosphere relaxing and uncrowded and the food sublime. The spa was a little hot and the jacuzzi almost too hot, but the views were outstanding and the pool and spa/steam room spot on. Our room looked over the front garden/drive to the hills and we felt totally looked after throughout our 2 night stay. The food was excellent and a quality  menu to suit all tastes, with some lovely canapés to start. We found the murals in the restaurant very interesting.

This was our first long car journey in our electric vehicle and the spa has a charger which made the trip even more relaxing as we knew we could charge up and get home without stopping on route. The combination of a modern spa, ev charger with the "stately" manor house was a perfect combination and we will certainly return.

Relaxing Manor House with lovely spa and food

Many thanks to Richie, Mitchel and the team for another fantastic three night visit. Superb service and top quality breakfasts and dinners. We would recommend the local Devon beef and sea trout in particular. Look no further than the chocolate fondant for pudding.  
We also made use of the spa which has been a lovely addition to the hotel.
Looking forward to seeing you all again in the summer ( sorry to miss you this time Simon).

Great spring break

The hotel is beautiful, as are the extensive grounds, everything feels luxurious, the spa pool and steam room were great, nice views. My wife said the 90 minute treatment she had at the spa was fantastic. The bed in our room was too soft for me and I woke very early, the breakfast was adequate, portion sizes were small e.g. one egg, one rasher of bacon and a few small mushrooms on a very large plate. We didn’t have an evening meal.

Idyllic location

Our first trip to Northcote Manor, the grounds were beautiful and our room was perfect - we stayed in the Heron suite. The spa and staff were exceptional and provided everything we needed. The hotel & restaurant staff were also attentive and provided a great service. My partner is a vegan and they went above and beyond to make sure his needs were met. The food was delicious and we thoroughly enjoyed. We highly recommend Northcote Manor and we hope to be back at some point in the future. 

Beautiful stay

The rooms themselves are rather ‘tired’ especially the bathrooms that need a major upgrade, though retaining the history of the property must be a concern. The staff are excellent and friendly and the meals really good. It is sometimes forgotten what care is put into creating good food. The prices were reasonable but perhaps £12 for a liquor coffee was on the high side. All rooms really clean and the area beautiful. Don’t let your Sat Nav take you in the back way the lanes are narrow!

Very Good Value

We only had the half afternoon tea which was a birthday gift from my niece. I say 'only', my goodness what a feast we had and both exclaimed if this is a Half Tea, how big is a full Tea!
Service was prompt, we were made to feel special and the sandwiches were plentiful and delicious. The fruit cake was especially lovely as was the scones, jam and  the lemon drizzle cake. 
We were allowed to take what we couldn't manage home and that was enjoyed later on! 
Value for money is an understatement.

Excellent Afternoon Tea

A lovely hotel in a beautiful old country house - secluded location with , good sized room and bathroom - shabby schic but very clean, fresh fruit and homemade biscuits! Comfortable and spacious lounges, great dining room serving excellent food with a varied wine list. Super good service in the restaurant from Simon and his team of young servers - I didn’t get all their names but Emily and Teagan were so good, friendly and efficient. Very impressive. 

If there was a downside it was breakfast - just a little underwhelming. Buffet was thin and a bit uninviting, the hot food was fine but who serves half a slice of black pudding? The service was good again though.

The Spa is amazing  - built in a perfect spot overlooking The Valley. Really excellent facilities; pool, steam room, sauna, jacuzzi all very high-end and spotless, small gym with good equipment. Spa treatments are available  although we didn’t have any ourselves this time. Reception serving food and drink and again, lovely staff.

We were sorry to leave and will definitely be going back - it’s got what you want basically; super facilities, seclusion, great food and drink, great service, lovely staff. All good!

Three Day Rest and Recuperation.

Northcote Manor – August 2023

For reasons I cannot begin to explain, this was a very significant break for myself and my husband, and that is excluding the fact that it was going to be our first 3-night stay away together, in a hotel, without family, in 25 years!

Northcote Manor was undeniably more of a spend than we originally intended. However, after several days of intense searching, it was the one place that stood out to us both and offered what seemed to be everything we hoped for our holiday.

My husband is a confident driver so after the long drive of mainly motorway roads, he welcomed the narrow Devon country roads. They gave us the feeling that we were almost there and it would only be a few miles until we would reach our destination, Northcote Manor.

The driveway to Northcote Manor was an experience in itself. It was a grey and damp August day on the day we arrived, though this certainly did not detract from the beauty. The tall trees ascended what appeared to be right up to the sky. For me, there was a wonderful sense of enchantment, I think that is the best way I can describe it.

The hotel, located in a highly secluded position, is a fabulous-looking old Manor house. Charming and characterful, inside and out, it is perfectly nestled in the quiet of the countryside. On arrival, the staff were attentive and very helpful, assisting us with getting settled and making sure we were happy. In our attempts to be prepared: for all weather (it was August in the U.K.), almost all occasions (we were on holiday), and eventualities (I was in the equation), we did feel we had quite a lot of luggage, and not wanting to be of any trouble, my husband, feeling it polite to refuse the offer of help, was kindly helped anyway. Ramps were put in place at the main entrance for my wheelchair, and when it came to dining, we were allocated a table that suited us and was level accessible from the outside - this really did help tremendously. Nothing was too much trouble.

In contrast to the grandness of the old and traditional Manor house was the tastefully modern and exquisitely positioned Spa. The Spa had the most stunning views, undoubtedly maximising the use of the setting, also with the option to have food and drinks outside on the balcony, which we did. The temperature of the pool, in my opinion, was lovely and warm. Everything, including the colour scheme, seemed to be well-considered throughout.

When it came to mealtime, there was a good selection to choose from that suited both of us. I eat fish but not meat, my husband enjoys everything. There were fish options for breakfast and evening meals, and with the options from the vegetarian menu too, I was able to have something different for each course, and on each day of our stay. The standard of the food was exceptional. The exemplary skills of the chef(s) were reflected in the balance of wonderful flavours in each dish and the beautiful presentation.

Attention to detail was something I particularly noticed. There were even delicious homemade biscuits in the room. To me, what on the surface could be perceived as people just doing their jobs, being present, feeling and being part of the atmosphere by interacting and observing, allowed for the understated to be revealed and truly shine. Thoughtfulness, consideration and the importance of communication are evidently what Richie, the hotel manager, profoundly holds as core personal values. He genuinely and respectfully cares if customers and residents have a good time and feel welcome. In our experience, we felt he treated us as individuals and with a generosity extending beyond his general duty and any expectation – he was a superstar. We felt Richie and all of the staff worked together as a team and an exceptional one at that.

I, hand on heart, could not have wanted any more from our stay at Northcote Manor. Our time away was extraordinary, and the memories, I will cherish. We both loved our stay at Northcote Manor and if everything is on our side, we will, at the first opportunity, endeavour to return.
