Fantastic Sunday carvery meat to die for and plenty of it. all the  veg and trimmings was fresh and home made.. gravy with meat juice and meat pieces we had a fantastic family dinner and will be visiting again soon

Great pint of Timothy Taylor and a big selection of other beers.

Was a bit disappointed that closed the kitchen early and the staff were still there, but the landlord was great and booked us a table at the Indian.

Fantastic home made carvery with plenty of meat and not carved by a skin graft surgeon as you get in other gastro styled pubs.

Great home made dessert with lovely thick custard.

Cracking Sunday Carvery

Lovely local British pub, serving good pub food and beers.  The host is Butch who makes the place and cannot do enough for you.  We stayed the night in the B and B upstairs which was clean and had what was needed for a reasonable price.  We were visiting for a family wedding and Butch could not be more helpful, his brother in law Froggy drives the local taxi, which was ideal.  Breakfast was a great British cooked breakfast cooked by Butch and Lyn.  We also had a light lunch of scampi and home made chips, excellent food, will definitely call in again use again when in the area again.

One reason Butch the Owner and his Staff especially Lyn absolutely fabulous the meals that Butch cooks are fabulous the pack lunches he makes up are far to much and fabulous the rooms are basic but very comfortable very clean well worth the money would stop here again no problem thanks Butch

Popped in for Tea on a recommendation and wasnt disappointed. Serving food 6pm to 8.30pm we ordered the home made steak pie and home made chips and it was as good a pie that we've had . No real ales on due to current circumstances but the locals and landlord 'Butch' made us feel most welcome. Give it a try.

Great food

Stayed here with my son who was playing English Amateur Golf Champs at Woodhall Spa he was here for 3 nights me for just the one ! Butch the owner couldn’t do enough for you with a nice clean & comfortable room, with great Lincolnshire breakfast in the morning and the locals very friendly !
I would recommend the Star & Garter and the service provided to anyone !

Golfing Visit July 2020 !

I’ve had a particularly challenging time recently during this coronavirus lockdown in my quest to find a decent cooked meal. At home I’m served nothing but a questionable diet of fish fingers and chips so I decided to pursue something cooked by a fine establishment. I was recommended the food served in star and garter not 2 miles away from my house in dunston. I’d heard nothing but good things but I had my reasons to be sceptical. Boy was I wrong. I had ordered a cheeseburger and fries (which seems rudimentary I know) but the flavour was aromatic and bold, the chips, despite their pale colour, were painted with flavours and spices resembling the artwork of the gods themselves. Usually I’m not so passionate about such simple food but every now and then I like to be impressed by the impossible and this Star and Garter Inn in Metheringham has done just that this night. 5 stars.

A very busy week meant husband and I wanted a complete day off. With that in mind we booked for the Sunday carvery at one of our local pubs
At a amazing price of just £6:49 for th mainly meal, I was not really expecting too much. How wrong was I
Wth a succulent selection of meats,roasted parsnips and potatoes along with a wide choice of vegetables this was the equal to many a more expensive carvery we've tasted.  If you are local and not yet been, you're missing a treat. If you're looking for a a Sunday drive with a lunch, this is a Hidden Gem

Hidden Gem

Booked many months ago for one night to stay as we were visiting the Christmas market in Lincoln. It was like going back in time to 1980's. The pub itself is in desperate need of an update. We were taken to our room via the very steep and creepy stairs that had no bannister for support.  This made the journey up the stairs with our luggage quite treacherous. The wallpaper was an aging, green anaglypta and fought against the highly patterned worn carpet. Our twin room had a wide, tatty, paper border around the middle. The room had not been decorated for decades. The windows were covered in condensation. The 2 pillows on each bed were possibly purchased in a pound shop. They were clean but so very small and flat that they must have been bought in a budget shop. The towels were old and rough along with a greying white flannel. The bathroom was large but had tatty, old bathroom mats on the floor. There was a Tv and tea and coffee making facilities. The information sheet in the room hadn't been updated for some time as the WIFI password had been changed since it was printed. The details of breakfast said that it was served between 7:30 and 8am on Sunday mornings. We opted against rushing down for breakfast at that time on Sunday morning. When we went downstairs, negotiating the stairs with luggage to check out we discovered the times on the sheet were incorrect. However, we weren't too disappointed as the pub manager was the chef and his regular sniffing and the small, uncovered, dried bloody hand injury was a bit off putting, to say the least.
We were told in advance that on the Saturday night we were staying there would be live entertainment in the bar. The manager reminded us of this when we checked in. He also quipped that our room was right over where the loud band would be playing below in the bar. We thought he was joking. He wasn't! The band started at 7:30pm. After a long day walking around the market and having a thoroughly good time in Lincoln, we were exhausted when we arrived back to our room. There was not a cat in hells chance of relaxing in our room because there is no sound proofing between the pub and the upstairs rooms. It was so loud that furniture, cups and kettle on the side were vibrating. This continued until just before midnight. 
If you're wanting to step back in time with your room accommodation and like the idea of being treated with disdain, then go ahead and book a stay here. I've stayed in many low cost B&b and hotels where the service and rooms have been perfect and good value for money but this place takes the biscuit! How it has managed to get a better than average (8.6) rating from another famous booking site is behind me!  Quite frankly, if there was a 'no star' rating available, this place would get it!.
