Sadly this place is nothing like the images on the website. We booked from a bride’s list for a nearby wedding and didn’t check the reviews. As other reviewers  have said, it’s not fit for purpose. The staff showed us to an outside garage type door where we were supposed to be staying. It was dark, dirty and smelt of mould and dogs. The carpet was filthy, frankly wouldn’t have walked on it without shoes. The manager/ owner wasn’t around, the bar staff were helpful but understood that we weren’t happy. The shower had a hole in the wall with bare cement behind. Lampshade broken and towels smelt of damp. We couldn’t have stayed there, we gave the key back into the bar and left. The staff told us to cancel our booking to receive a refund. So far nothing. I have left the manager several voicemails and emailed him many times but he doesn’t reply. I would strongly advise against ever booking this property. I can’t understand why the brewery isn’t more concerned about the lack of health and safety measures in place. I usually don’t review anything unless it’s excellent but wish to warn people.

This was my first time at a Pub and Kelly M made it unforgettable! She was so much fun and made me look forward to the next time. The food was also great. I had the mac n cheese, others had the pie and mash and fish and chips, all of them were really happy and the pub was happy to adjust some of the dishes. 10/10 would recommend

Such a blast!

Upon arrival we were pleasantly surprised at the character of where we would be staying. We received a very warm welcome & we’re shown to our room. We booked the family room with a double bed downstairs & two singles in the upstairs. Lovely layout. Bedding & towels were crisp & clean.  Breakfast was nice but could have done with being bigger. Our 9 year old was still hungry afterwards. 
Now to the bad bits! I hate writing a bad review but I think it’s really important to let the owners know where they can improve. The carpets are beyond filthy, dirty marks stains all over the place & I mean everywhere! We actually didn’t feel comfortable walking on them bare footed. The walls need a damn good wipe down or re-painting. The bathroom had a cracked sink, the shower had no water pressure, hole in the wall where the pipe work goes through. The bathroom was dirty with previous occupants hair left in the shower. The flooring either needs a good scrub with bleach or replacing. Given lockdown I would have thought it would have been a priority to upgrade the rooms in preparation for re-opening. I understand the struggles of businesses but general cleanliness should be of a high standard given the £150 per night the room cost! Unfortunately we won’t be back which is a shame as it really does have the best character. 
Our family members ate in the pub & couldn’t recommend it highly enough. Definitely a mixed review & I would have loved to write a glowing one. But not on this occasion unfortunately.

the staff were 100% really  nice and helpful people  , the room was good for the price and if you drink guinness that was top class, My only problem  was and it did spoil my stay so i shall  be honest was i woke up in  the night needing a drink of water after a few beers to find there was no cold water to drink both taps in the bathroom the hot and the cold  only ran hot water , so i went all night without a drink and felt very dehydrated the next day i and could not wait to buy a cold bottle of water ... oh one more think could do with a bigger tv  as the one in the room was very small

Great staff really nice people i can not fault them...

This is the worst pub I have ever been into. Its dirty, the landlord is vile and the experience was intimidating. It was a terrible waste of my money. Don't waste your money in the worst pub in East Sussex

Dreadful

Can’t recommend this place enough! Amazing carvery roast dinner 😍 Worth a drive out to this traditional pub in Wadhurst! Excuse the photo. I started tucking in before remembering to take a photo 🤦🏼‍♀️ Lovely friendly atmosphere. Very welcoming. If visiting Bewel Water or Bedgebury Forest it’s a must visit for food! Also got cute B&B rooms available. 

Roast dinner to die for!!

2nd visit here, 1 night each time but staying again this weekend for two nights for work reasons.
The beds are very comfy, the rooms and bathrooms are spotless and the food is great.
The staff are friendly and plenty of out door seating for us smokers. 
It is an old Inn and the rooms are quaint and a bit creaky, the bar has 5 different types of flooring in it and it is only a small place, so for those looking for a working or drinking bed for the night, this place is great, but if you expect 5* or on a romantic getaway, maybe not the right place.  See you all this weekend ..Ps if you want entertaining bar service, ask if Betty Boop is serving tonight ;)

2nd visit here and booking again

I would avoid this place if you want ANY sleep. Paper thin walls but that would have been bearable if the mattress was comfy. IT WAS NOT. I have no idea where you would even buy a mattress with springs so hard that they hurt your ribs. No mattress cover and therefore stained (yuk)!
Grim décor and no customer service from the bar staff who gives the key out.
AVOID and go to Lamberhurst for a descent place to stay. Shame as the location is great.

Awful place

Well what a catastrophe, I booked this hotel late, but I received an receipt from them in no time. I was only 10 minutes away from them when I booked, so I called them to say I was on my way and advise my ETA, I made 6 calls and no one picked up.

I was now a little concerned, but I soldiered on as I already paid for the room. When I arrived in the freezing cold no one was there to open the door, so basically I was left in the cold and they had my money.

I emailed them the following day asking for a refund, they just ignored me. I called and again no answer.

In the end I took it up with Hotels who called them and got told to call back the following day. Hotels gave me a refund, but I am disgusted with this place who will just take your money and leave you out in the cold.

Buyer beware

Just when. you thought things couldnt get worse. The place is a mess inside out, the drink prices change depending on who. serves you. The food has gone down hill. There is now a burger bar they are using for breakfast that is stinking out the town. Just what Wadhurst needs.What is wrong with this pub,The brewery need to step in and fix this.
