We stayed here on a whim at the end of a work trip to Parrog. Sublime. A very warm welcome. Simple cosy and very clean room. A first class supper in the bar, as they were so busy, and a very pleasant session at the bar after. Delicious breakfast and throughout a truly friendly Cymry Croeso.

Warm and welcoming

Been to the Golden Lion previously and loved the location and everything about the pub/ hotel.
Was very much looking forward to spending three nights over the New Year!
Sod’s Law  we came down with virus flu thing going about and it’s lasting ages - now OH has it so unfortunately we’ve had to cancel.
Called the hotel, got a lovely gentleman the other end of the phone, showed concern for us having our Christmas being spoilt. There was no quibbling the gent just made a refund for us and wished us well.
We’d also booked the restaurant for two nights of our stay so I thought maybe there would be a small charge or maybe offered a voucher for a future stay.
We were most appreciative and hope to get back there sometime soon.

Customer Sevice at its Best

Very comfortable hotel. I cannot pick a fault at all a really enjoyable stay. Book a table in advance for food and try the beer it is great. We ate elsewhere on our second night and it was a mistake we should really have availed ourselves of the great menu and service. Probably the best place to stay in this part of Pembrokeshire. Good for coast path - lovely walks and coastline. Excellent all round

Wonderful stay in Pembrokeshire!

A number of problems I haven’t seen in any other hotel:
1.  Stall Shower has a fixed head so it must be turned on to set temperature but no where to hide. My arm was frozen or scalded reaching in to adjust. At least please put a hand held shower head. 
2.  TV doesn’t work. Told it’s very old but somewhere someone has a video on how to turn it on. Get back to us. 
3.  One bedside has no electrical and no lamp.

Spent the weekend at The Golden Lion after friends recommended it.Despite the weather being a bit mixed The Golden Lion definitely lived up to the recommendation we had had.Staff were friendly and attentive,service was first class at breakfast and in the evening.Our meals were wonderful,local produce cooked beautifully both at breakfast and at dinner.Would definitely recommend

Lovely People,Lovely Place

We ate a delicious dinner of home cooked food. They catered for all tastes and the lamb shoulder was mouth-meltingly recommendable. The pub welcomed our two well- behaved cockapoos and the staff were very friendly.

Excellent value for money

Dined here two nights of our four night stay in Newport,great food excellent staff, lovely ambience,customer service is brilliant and genuinely meant!!! It is so unusual these days to find somewhere like this 👏

Excellent

We had an ok stay and the staff couldn't do enough for you and it was a friendly atmosphere. 

Couple of things that weren't so great was the uncomfortable mattress that was too soft and stopped me sleeping well. Also, there is very loud live band music being played on the weekend (this was a Friday) that also hindered our and son's sleep. 

May be an idea to look at the black mould in the bathroom tile grout and also the dust on top of the wardrobe on rooms 4.

The breakfast was really enjoyable and lots of choice was given. The ladies that served it made us feel welcome and at home.

I didn't mention about the mattress and loud band music as we were only staying one night but it's worth considering this for future guests.

The awsome staff are a credit to this pub/hotel.

Lovely staff and breakfast

Just back from a family one- nighters and very enjoyable it was too.
This place isn’t a ‘boutique’ hotel ( though I suspect it is striving to be) but is none the worse for that.
Fairly basic rooms  are super clean and offer everything you want but with few frills.
Where this place excels is in its food and, particularly,  its welcoming staff who go out of their way to help.
Our evening meal was good if not great. But breakfast the next morning was superb.
We’ll  definitely make a return visit at some stage.

Lovely place ….

We have just come back from a two night stay at the Lion. Got to say that in all aspects it was first class. From our room which was spotless and well presented, to the staff and food you could not fault anything.
If you are looking for a quality stay in Newport then I recommend the Lion without hesitation. 
Would we book it again , absolutely. We didn’t want to come away
