Went for a family party.  We all stayed at this hotel.  Be aware that the beds are only small doubles (4ft) and very high off the floor.  It does make the room feel larger but being used to a standard double bed many people struggled with the bed.  It was also very hot in the rooms.

We went down on the first evening for a meal but hubby had already eaten so we just ordered a main meal for me.  It was a Friday so I went for the the fish and chip special.  It was nice but as this was the Friday night special it was at a reduced price.  When it came to pay you cannot have two offers at once so we were charged full price for the fish and chips and then 20% off so not such a great saving after all.  Must say that if we had both eaten and had puddings etc may have worked out better, but just one to watch when ordering food.

Breakfast on the first morning was ok but our eggs were a little hard.  Breakfast on the 2nd morning was excellent.  Really well presented and everything cooked to perfection. 

Must admit having worked out the 20% thing went down the road to another well know eating change and eat there as it was cheaper.

The hotel is just off the centre of town so a 3 minute walk and you are there. A 10 minute walk away is the harbour and a 10 minute drive away is the coast. Its a bit of fun driving around due to the one way system. 

Overall it was a good stay and if we were visiting would stay there again but the small very high beds may have to be a consideration for some.

We stayed overnight, the staff were really friendly and gave us a free upgrade to a HUGE room. The bed was massive and very comfy, the breakfast was delicious, and there were plenty of nice little touches to make our stay comfortable.

We visited this evening placed our order @ 8.20pm (kitchen closes @ 9pm). Restaurant was empty. We only ordered a burger and gammon egg and chips @ 9.20pm we enquired about progress of our ordered it took another 20minutes for the manager Katie to come to our table and tell us the chef had left and that our order hadn’t been properly processed by their system. This is hard to believe as we queried with another member of staff if we could still order a desert after 9pm and she came back to us and said that he chef would wait for us. 
Katie refunded our costs but seemed like she did not have a clue what was going on in her own establishment. 
On arrival at the Red Lion we also noticed what appeared to be a large number of under age drinkers. 
We’ve been loyal customers of this establishment for the last 10 years but after our experience tonight will never return and would suggest choosing one of the many other restaurants in Wareham who value your custom

Don’t visit the Red Lion Wareham

My husband and brother-in-law occasionally go for a quiet drink here and maybe a burger from the menu and decided to bring "the wives" along. While we were there, we were made to feel welcome and the food was good, but we paid in cash and they ended up taking a £25 tip for a £112 bill. When I queried the next day if their till was up, they said they would look into it and get in touch. They never did even after I followed it up the next week out of principal. I also gave half of my "winnings" from a bet that the manager helped me win, to her when I need not have done. Expensive night. Won't go back as in my opinion, customer service doesn't not end when the customer steps out of the door.

Would love to leave a brilliant review, but can't

This place was booked for a business trip. The bathroom smelt slightly damp and decor was dated. Felt clean enough. TV in room with freeview. Staff friendly. My room was #5 which had a separate access down a dimly lit passage accessed off of the high street, felt dodgy in the dark. The room was shielded from street so quiet from road noise but noisy from the footsteps on the room above the ground floor. The room looked out onto a weird / not very nice courtyard. The place had no punters in the evening and kitchen was closed for food as being serviced. 

Budget

Stopped here a couple of times for an evening meal last year and found the hotel bar area warm and friendly and the food delicious. We were in the area again this year and chose to have  fish and chips off the bar menu. Sorry to say it was the worst fish and chips ever, the fish was nearly all batter and was very greasy as were the chunky chips.
Won't be returning again which is a shame as the staff and ambiance are very good.

Short break 

The service here was amazing and they had just finished their new menu! We had starters and mains every dish was amazing (especially the Asian slaw) absolutely delicious and really reasonably priced also! Would definitely recommend!!!

Amazing food friendly service

We've been visiting this place for many years and have always been very happy with the lovely meals, service and drinks under the other lovely owners. However unfortunately I things have gone from bad to worse lately. We had a few OK meals in the beginning and were determined to give it a chance but earlier in the year the quality of food got worse and they stopped doing it at all in the summer. We decided to go and have a drink last week to see how things were going but were staggered to find the price for a glass of wine had risen by £1.60.That was for a basic house wine at that. When I questioned the barmaid as to why and that we were regular customers, she was totally disinterested and didn't have a very pleasant attitude. So different from the previous owners who were always so friendly and welcoming. We sat in a totally empty bar and witnessed several people coming in and leaving immediately on hearing there was no food. Needless to say we won't be visiting again when there are so many nicer places in Wareham and they offer food. !!

Why such a big price rise on drinks.???

arrived on arrival we were told there  was no kitchen as they are having work done! only to find out that its not been open for a lenght of time as they cannot find a chef, but had some to come in and cook breakfast.. there is no mention of this on there web site we would not have chosen this hotel if we had know this...the breakfast after waiting over 40 minutes for was over cooked awful... we left it.. the tea was luke warm. the room was basic carpet fility we had to go out of the hotel on to the street to get into the hotel room 6   you could have gone on a long upstairs and downstairs route but there were no lights floorboards no carpet this place should not be listed as a Hotel. they should update there website why would you go to a hotel with out a kitchen? we are writing to the EH as we feel people should be clearly aware of the state of this hotel...
