Thought it was time to try out the new chef and we were not disappointed.  A vast improvement, delicious food with a totally new menu, great sized portions, especially with hungry teenagers in tow and far better competitive prices.  So of course had three courses and the house Pinot Rose is worth a try. 

New Chef at the Inn

We were really looking forward to dinner. Starter of Smoked salmon and some lovely fresh brown bread, well unattractive 2 slices of packet salmon on a plate with 1 round of shop bought sliced bread. Not great. Salt and Pepper squid with dip, lovely I thought but no the squid was not fresh but cooked from frozen, deep fried too quickly so very pale with no flavour. Not sure what the dip was but little flavour.
Next course. 1 meal was chicken with roast potatoes and wild mushrooms. We asked to hold off with the mushrooms but that got been forgotten, the chicken was cooked ok but roast potatoes where deep fried and really hard . 2nd was steamed Scottish mussels in garlic,white wine and shallots with fries. The dish arrived and contained the plastic from the packet sauce in amongst the mussels....unbelievable. The sauce was watery and tasteless and certainly spoiled the mussels. No bread give...had to ask.
Then the dirty plates stayed on the table all the time we finished our drinks whilst the bar staff were busy with their children.
What should have been a lovely meal was not satisfactory and for £60.00
I feel this needed to be shown to unsuspecting customers.

Disappointment

Nice location with some good rooms if a litttle small. I liked the location and the bar that served food and there was parking and good wifi. Staff were friendly and I would stay again if I needed a room in the area.

Good Nights Sleep

We stayed one night booked through Macs Adventures while walking the South Downs Way. The hosts were very welcoming on arrival and the room was lovely, spacious and comfortable. The evening meal was excellent as was breakfast the next morning. Even though it was very quiet in the morning, there was still plenty of choice on offer for us.

The food was excellent and we received a friendly welcome. Room comfortable, with good facilities. The Inn was in a lovely situation and was very convenient for a stop off along the South Downs Way. Buriton is a very nice Village

We walked the South Downs Way and the Village Inn was an excellent overnight stay.

We stayed at the Village Inn for one night during a recent walking holiday. The room was very comfortable and certainly fulfilled all our requirements for our stay. I would consider the restaurant area to be very soul less with no atmosphere at all. Food mediocre and service abysmal! However, you can create your own atmosphere and the reason for my low rating relates to the service we received from the staff on the evening of our stay and in the morning. Our week long walking holiday of the South Downs way included seven nights B&B (booked direct by the walking holiday organising company) and a packed lunch prepared by the B&B for the following day. In all cases apart from the Village Inn it all worked perfectly. When asked about our packed lunch for the following day the girl on duty advised us that there was nothing paid for. We showed her our itinary that showed clearly packed lunches were included and her flippant response was "well it doesn't say that you have paid for it" Not wanting to argue as we were too tired we paid over £8.00 for a two sandwiches. When we came to eat them we found whoever had prepared them could not even be bothered to cut them in half. Just two slabs of bread with curled up cheese wrapped in cling film. At breakfast we asked for some toast. The girl looked at us oddly. She bought the toast. We asked if there was butter and jam/marmalade available. The girl looked at us oddly again. She then bought us some butter but bizarrely an unopened jar of jam and marmalade for us to deal with in whatever way we saw fit. Would we stay at the Village Inn again? No. In conclusion, perfect place to stay for one night if it's on your itinery. Eat and drink elsewhere, Buriton is a lovely location and there are far better options in the village.

Poor service, mediocre food

Stayed here with my husband for two nights and was so disappointed. The pub looks lovely both inside and out and the staff were friendly upon arrival. However the room given to us was above the kitchen and smelt pretty fetid. The room was dirty-full of dust (skirting boards were awful), the shelf where drink facilities were was filthy and the shower plug was rancid (full of hair and dirt).  No dressing table, no full length mirror, no hairdryer, poor natural light and dark decor; given we were going to a wedding this really wasn’t great! We had an evening meal on arrival and it’s truly overpriced and very average. Breakfast was disorganised and arguments broke out between other guests and the management whilst we were there. Unfortunately I really didn’t enjoy our stay and wouldn’t recommend it; it simply didn’t reflect £220 for two nights!

Really disappointing and dirty 

Buriton is an attractive village, and the Village inn is cosy with a lovely open fire.Bedrooms and bathrooms are quite small.The food was ok, and staff helpful. Breakfast was again , all you wanted or needed. Fresh fruit was available along with decent coffee and the usual full cooked English.

Popped in for lunch on way home from Uni 

I stayed here for 1 night while doing the South Downs Way. The room and bed were very comfortable and it was a lovely place to stay. I looked at the dinner menu and it was mainly meat which I don’t eat, so the landlord prepared a stir fry vegetable with halloumi dish which was delicious. It felt like very personal service which is lovely when you’re travelling alone. Breakfast was very good and I would highly recommend the Village Inn to anyone looking for a comfortable place to stay.
