This isn't a cheap place to stay, but it was wonderful and very relaxing. It had a personal touch, being met by owner Holly and her cute dog, Teacup, who showed us around the rooms. We stayed in the Master room, which had a huge four poster bed, and a lovely on-suite. The downstairs rooms included the lovely yellow room where we sat drinking tea and a slice of the lovely homemade cake, looking out the windows of the view of Wells Cathedral below. Also played Scrabble by the fire one evening over a drink from the honesty bar. Breakfast was yummy, I had kippers one morning, smoked salmon the next. From the moment we arrived until we left, we were so relaxed and comfortable in this lovely old country house 

Quiet relaxing hotel full of character 

The staff were all very welcoming and accommodating, the room was great, the house really lovely and the gardens, beautiful .  Easy to get into town by foot and the ambience and whole experience was as good, if not better than it was years ago when we went before.

Relaxing and lovely

First class from start to finish. Warm welcome and highly professional. 
We asked for a large, comfortable room to relax with a bath, and we were delighted with the Butterfly room, where the ensuite had a big sunken bath. 
The breakfast was to the highest standard with a perfectly runny poached egg and local produce - no cash and carry here! Afternoon tea and mouth-watering homemade lemon drizzle cake. 
Above all, it was spotless, not a finger mark, never mind a speck of dust, unbelievable considering the age of the house. 
Pictures taken on the day of our arrival say it all. 
We will be booking up again.

First class from start to finish

We stayed here for one night for our wedding anniversary, and really can’t rate it high enough. From the time we arrived until we checked out we were in absolute awe of the house and it’s wonderful owners. We were greeted by Holly (and her gorgeous little dog) on arrival and offered tea and home-made cake before finding our room and exploring the fabulous grounds.’The whole house is furnished with quality antiques, and the bedrooms each have their own character. Our room (Pepecorn) was at the top of the house with a view over the surrounding fields - it was sheer bliss. The bed was extremely comfortable and the bathroom was absolutely spotless. Breakfast was amazing and of superb quality, and nothing was too much trouble. I especially loved the silver coffee pot! As stated above we really didn’t want to leave, but we will definitely be returning soon.

Opulence personified!!

We chose Beryl for a 3 night get away as it is walking distance to the centre of Wells.  It is a gem among B&Bs!  Room and service lovely.  Breakfast superb!!!! Afternoon tea and cake delicious! We were made to feel very welcome - thank you Matthew and family!   Highlights - the white table cloths and polished silver tea and coffee service!  

Try the Fountain Inn for dinner, and The Crown for a Sunday evening dinner!

A gem among B&Bs!

Absolutely wonderful stay at the Beryl. Lovely rooms. Fabulous breakfasts. Gorgeous afternoon cakes and catered for dairy and gluten free diet. Family were so welcoming. They couldn't do enough for us. Wells is a lovely town with beautiful cathedral. Super weekend. Will definitely go back.

We had the master suite with views over Wells cathedral.Stunning sunset too.
Bathroom just lovely and bed incredibly comfortable.
This is a real find and we will come back especially in the summer months as there is a lovely outdoor pool.We were there in November so obviously not open then.

Wow! What a fantastic stay we had.. a hugely warm welcome and total peace!.. or room (butterfly) was excellent and the decor throughout was like a step back in time.. the afternoon tea and cake on arrival was first class.. the cooked breakfast was as good as any I’ve had, it was perfect and so well cooked… a return in the spring is a must.. thank you Matthew & Holly for all that you did for us..

A top quality stay

A different cake each afternoon:  a superb home cooked breakfast with superlative sausages and bacon.  A bed to sink into, enfolded by crisp clean linen.  A bath deep enough to float to heaven.   Dangerously additive indeed.   And simply wonderful.

Dangerously addictive

Beautiful house, amazing breakfast and coffee and cake in the afternoon set in amazing grounds. All of this made for a lovely relaxing stay. Owners were very nice and couldn't do more for you. Very welcoming. Rooms lovely and comfortable with coffee and tea facilities and toiletries. Would definitely return for a repeat stay.
