DO NOT GO filthy place, splatter marks up wall n radiator thick dust on everything even wallpaper! Mould on one wall and curtain dirty kettle cups the bins were covered in stains, the floor was so rotten we were told to not stand on it as would go through ceiling n she put a chair on it! We said we’d rather not stay n she said what did we expect for an old house! She thought dust n grime was ok! Still trying to get refund! The owner just hangs phone up! The loo seat has been painted pink in a last life n now it’s original white has been partly scratched through, wires hang off walls yuck yuck yuck don’t go

Don’t go it’s filthy

I don't think Vintage is meant to mean dirty but that's what this place is.  Our bedroom opened into the kitchen and when we were in the room it felt uncomfortable having someone else in the room next door.  The room was grimy, walls, carpet all paintwork, mismatched bedding and old off grey towels. I wasn't comfortable with the dirt. The only good thing is its well placed for the town and beach.

Dirty

This guest house left me with mixed feelings. It was really dated and not in a quirky way ! the decor needed tidying up, it needed a clean. And, I have to say the mattress was shocking, the worst I've sleep on (or rather not slept in) in as long as I can remember. But then it had plenty of plugs sockets, free WiFi,  Amazon and regular TV, the location was good for town and parking was available albeit limited. The host was very friendly and welcoming and tea/coffee, towels, etc left out for you to replenish your room. The shower was old but worked surprisingly well.

Mixed feelings - consider your options !

The Wayside Guest House is someone's house, as the host told me as she showed me the room. Perhaps it is therefore reasonable to have a lot of clutter in the room and in the public areas.

The bed was advertised as queen sized, but it was smaller; king sized, probably. There was also another bed leaning up against the wall, adding to the sense that the room was rammed with furniture. It seems to be a common failing among people offering accommodation to load every surface with stuff, which makes you wonder where you're meant to put your own belongings? With no bedside table my side I resorted to putting my book, phone, water, etc on the very large pink sofa that jutted out into the room (making a pinch point for access to the bathroom). There were a few hangers in the wardrobe, but the floor was packed with spare bedding, leaving only the hanging space for our clothes, so we left most of them in our suitcases. In the bathroom there were two vases of artificial flowers, one on the shelf above the basin, which stood beside the room freshener. To make room for our things, these had to go on the floor.

The bathroom was, in a word, tired. The top was off the cold tap in the basin. There was an extendable clothes airer at the end of the bath, but it didn't retract fully and there was nothing to attach it to at the other end. It was also very dirty. One of the blinds didn't work  all three were frayed and one had holes in it.

My main problems with the Weyside concern safety. First, there are no instructions for what to do in the case of fire displayed on the wall or the back of the door. I have the usual amount of concern for my personal safety, so I always check this out on arriving in a place. I found the instruction sheet on page 2 of the information file (where you're really going to look when the room is filling with smoke and the lights have probably blown). We were told to exit via the front door or, if this wasn't possible, through the private kitchen to the rear door. If the stairs were unavailable, we had to 'go to the middle landing enter room one and climb out through the window onto the flat roof and climb down to the back garden'. I had a look at room one's window from below and it really wasn't that big. Both of us are average sized, and my husband is 6'2", and we're both reasonably supple, but we reckoned we'd have a job. What someone of 18 or 20 stone, or of limited mobility, would do, I have no idea. Also, there was no suggestion as to what we should if room one was locked; break it down, presumably. Perhaps a fireman's axe should be supplied.

The other safety issue concerns  the electrical sockets. The double one beside the sofa didn't work. The double one on the door side of the bed had a loose cover. The only usable one in the room had a four-socket adaptor plugged into it which had been somewhat casually attached to the wall; it was crooked and very loose. Kettle, TV, toaster, Sky box, hairdryer, ac unit and fan were.presumably, all meant to work off this adaptor (although clearly not at the same time).

The accommodation was very far from being deluxe. Had it been at a commensurately low price (£40 appeared to be the going rate a few years ago), perhaps the state of the place could be excused (although not the safety issues). We were charged £170 for two nights, bed only. 

On the plus side, it was a good location for walking into Weymouth, and we were able to tuck the car away on a private unmade road behind the accommodation.

Not the Deluxe room that it claimed to be.

Booked at last minute to extend our Weymouth stay by 1 day. Very, very dated with tons of personal items in cabinets in hallway. Bathroom clean but again really old fixtures. Tiny shower. Bedding years old and looked worn out. Slept on top of quilt as didn’t trust it. Wallpaper coming away from walls in places. Bit dusty. Worst thing were curtains, barely hanging on in bathroom (and clear glass). Bedroom ones really old and let 90% light in. Windows dirty. No breakfast, but we knew this, tea/ kettle etc in room but cups could have done with a good wash. Land lady nice and explained it was just a ‘place to rest your head’.  Came back around 11pm and no auto lights in hallway had to use phone torch and you can hear people in next room as you probably would at home. Close enough to town. I can understand why there are no pictures fully of the front. Electrical illegal I think. 
I really don’t understand how you could fail to see that the curtains need rehanging. I really don’t see how this is a 7.4. Some of the reviews say vintage which made me smile. See pics.

An oddity

The room was off of the hosts kitchen, so every smell from the kitchen wafted into the room.
From 3-6 on the Saturday afternoon there was someone banging, not sure If it was in the house or a neighbour. 
The sheets were stained, cobwebs everywhere, the carpets could do with at least a clean, but better still replacing. 
Very outdated decor, it was a room in her house rather than a guest house. 
No fire evacuation notice or any 'safety' information. 
The fridge rattled every 30/40 minutes day and night. 
Only 2 hand towels available which wasn't made clear in the details. 
The room layout made it very difficult to get to the double bed. 
The house smelt of stale cigarette smoke. 
It was an experience, but not one we want to repeat.

Would not go back

Very good location, the beach is 10 min walk from the guesthouse.
We had a pleasant stay, great price for what we needed.
Tea, coffee etc in rooms with a kettle and toaster.
Parking outside - Park in the street opposite, Alma Road, no restrictions.
About a 30 min drive to Durdle Door.
There's a great Brazilian restaurant called Sambo Rodizio, 5 min walk, amazing food. 

Great Location 

I honestly can’t believe the positive reviews on here unless it’s gone drastically downhill in the last year.. Stayed for 1 night but wouldn’t have bothered on first impressions but everywhere else was booked up. 
On arrival we were greeted with an overwhelming smell of curry. This wafted throughout the whole place, even in our bedroom. The decor was extremely dated and cluttered. 
The whole place needs totally renovating and it didn’t appear clean. 
The milk sachets in our room were months out of date. I’m glad breakfast wasn’t included!

Really dated accommodation.

I had a good experience, the host was friendly and polite, the room had a cheerful decor, the toilet ensuite was clean and the shower was working well. A nice bonus was the netflix on the television. Free wi-fi was included too but I didn't use it myself so I can't say if it worked well.
There were coffee and tea making facilities and a toaster.
The house was quiet, I spent only one night there but I had a good experience and I would happily go back there again.

good experience

Me and my daughter stayed for one night and it was a lovely stay! Tony (Owner) greeted us with a friendly warm smile and welcomed us in to his guest house which was cosy and had a very homely feel to it! Our room was a family room with a king bed, bunk beds and a day bed. (Very comfy indeed) We had a fridge, kettle (with tea coffee etc) toaster, cutlery and plates. The bathroom and bedroom was very clean! This was a great place to stay! 😀
