This hotel was interesting. The room itself was functional, the carpet was a bit tatty, but it was a good size. There was a constant chilly breeze coming in under the door where it didn’t fit properly. The sea view was in the tiniest little gap far far in the distance sadly. This hotel does have an indoor pool though, and it was empty! So really enjoyed a private swimming session all to ourselves for a good couple of hours, which really was lovely! 
When we first checked in there were some youngsters hanging about on the balcony listening to music quite loudly and smoking, we were a little worried that it could escalate and we wouldn’t get any sleep, but they had wandered off by 10pm and we had a peaceful and quiet night. Would probably visit again if there was a room on special offer at a discounted rate, but wouldn’t visit at full price again, was over £100 and doesn’t really look like the photos online. Hopefully they’ll refurbish this place soon and it will return to what I assume from old photographs it’s former glory.

Average, friendly staff

The best thing about this hotel is the location right above Weymouth Bay. The hotel is very run down, the pool unusable.
The staff are pleasant and very willing to help.
It needs a lot of money spending and a complete refurbishment like they did with the Midland is Morecambe. I bet it was wonderful in it's Art Deco heyday.

Think Before Booking 

The entire lower floor including reception and the bar STINKS of damp. The rooms are tired, handles not secured to the cheap  furniture, the mattress bottoms out on the frame when you sit on it, carpet threaded everywhere, plug sockets on the other side of the room, the restaurant was closed so no breakfast. Our room was accessed from outside balcony and the door didn’t seal properly so we had a windy sleep,Limited parking.

Avoid at all costs

The hotel looked lovely from photos online but was very badly organised one of the staff was helpful but the others did not seem to care. Outside pool was stagnant filthy water no wonder it was signed CLOSED. The room was grubby under beds sheets had not been changed which receptionist said was how they came back from laundry no apologies given the fridge was full of someone else’s food she came to clear that  towels were  damp and one was unclean which was changed the door for room was extremely difficult to open she was again said they have trouble with doors. A bottle of milk went sour due to fridge not working properly once again was told that they haveaproblem with the fridges and they are going to be removed no apology given for that. The  cups in the room were washed up only once in 5 days and only twice were given complimentary milks and not at all were the towel’s changed nor the sheets at all even though I mentioned that they had been slept in.  The breakfast ok but weatherspoons much better for 3rd of price. These 5 nights cost £610 I wouldn’t  pay a £100 for it was very poor bathroom had been refurbished so was ok  but replaced toilet roll would have been good. I wouldn’t recommend this awful place to anybody. Also no manager around anywhere to speak to

Faulty towers lookalike

A group of us had the mis-fortune to stay here last weekend, as the majority of the hotels in the area had been booked for the Ironman event.

Good points: it has a bar and car parking, and was not expensive

Bad points: this place needs a major refurb, it is in such a poor state, we stayed in non-sea view rooms out the back (see image attached), small, poorly decorated and not clean, with previous occupants hair stuck to the toilet and half used shower gel in the bath. Our room was not cleaned after the first night, so no clean towels or replacement toilet paper. When we returned at night and wanted to buy water from the bar we were told the bar is closed, great customer service!

Taxi's into town are expensive and there is a shortage of them, no Uber in town so getting out and back again at night is problematic. 

I assume you will guess we won't be returning!

Probably a nice hotel in the 1950's

Only stayed for three nights in August, and was astonished how much I enjoyed it having previously read some of the uncomplimentary reviews - but my son had stayed there several times and recommended it, and I'm delighted that he did. Yes, it may be in need of refurbishment, and it may well be basic and not to everyone's taste, but I found its simplicity charming and its position close to the beach absolutely ideal.
The breakfasts were brilliant, the staff very friendly and helpful, the bed linen was spotless, the room clean (apart from a few cobwebs in the curtains!) I have already recommended it to several friends and will be back again as soon as I can make it!
I would like to take this opportunity to commend the Reception Manager, I think her name was Sue? She dealt fairly but firmly with a man who seemed determined to pick a fight with anyone and who was illegally parked and NOT a guest. My son went to her aid when the man became violently abusive - and got a black eye for his trouble. But to her great credit, this lady stood her ground in the face of great provocation and eventually saw the man off the premises. She was amazing and has my admiration - a real credit to the management.

The Best Place to be!

Quite simply, the hotel staff deserves all the credit here…they really looked after our party of road trippers, booking taxis, pouring us drinks in the bars and being all round fun and efficient!

The hotel would obviously benefit in updating but it as it stands it’s rooms are clean and well presented. Plenty of parking…a few beach bars and cafes and a beach  nearby…

Pontins lives another day…

Do NOT stay at this hotel absolutely disgusting and I don’t know where health and safety have been but it’s definitely not the riviera hotel.
On arrival lots of unhappy people in reception and then a receptionist who really shouldn’t have been on the main desk just rude, the hotel just looking really sorry for itself.

On the walk to our room the amount of rubbish on the floor everywhere the bins had clearly not been emptied for a while and used condoms all over the floor, we were in the prefab rooms at the back of the hotel there was ivy  growing all over the windows of the rooms, walked into the room, having read reviews on here I checked the bedding and the the actual pillows and duvet which were badly stained luckily we had our own bedding with us, the plug sockets were loose and there was a funny smell.

Had a walk around the building there were air conditioning units that were just hanging where they were falling off or they had fallen off and were just on the floor, there were electrical cables hanging from the roof tops, the roof over the ballroom had been damaged earlier in the year so had scaffolding and plastic membrane had been put over it but that also was starting to come off, the old bits of felt roof were just laid on the floor with nails hanging out of them, the place had rubbish everywhere and was overgrown, we then got to a bit were you walked up some steps onto a balcony area which had glass sides and a wooden rail that would have been fixed on the top it was DANGEROUS if you was to lean on it then it would just completely come away and you risk then going over the balcony, old bbq just left outside with the gas bottles there. The place just looking completely in cared for and neglected.

Not to mention there were no facilities that were in use the outdoor swimming pool empty and not had a thing done to it, the indoor swimming pool closed ladders in the pool and a hole in the ceiling, saunas closed yet nothing to tell anyone, a restaurant that was pretty useless just seems that the owners are running the beautiful grade 2 listed building into the ground rather than maintaining the once beautiful place that it would have been, I will be going further with this as they don’t deserve this building and certainly shouldn’t be taken any money for people, trading standards would be horrified.

Avoid like the plague

This hotel is absolutely disgusting, you would be better off sleeping in your car or a tent. There were hairs, stains and dirt inside the bed sheets, dust everywhere and stains all over the walls and carpet. After desperately calling around other local hotels for a last minute room, I slept on top of my beach towel on the bed. Although, I only slept for about two hours because I was so anxious about the window that didn’t close properly which opens onto a walkway for other guests. There were also hairs around the basin from where the previous guest had shaved, and mould in the shower. The rooms upstairs where the rest of our party slept smelt overwhelmingly of damp, which I’ve learned from reading other reviews is because the roof leaks, which explains the scaffolding on top of the hotel. This hotel really ought to be closed down, it is the worst I have ever stayed in, that will teach me for not reading the reviews.

Revolting

Theee worst Hotel EVER!!! The drive in to this hotel looked great, was so excited after looking at the beautiful photos that Booking.com are still using to lure you in!!! (Not that at all I’m afraid)  on arrival, receptionist was on the phone being really rude to who ever she was talking to! Got our keys, told us where to go, on walking to our room I said to my husband “oh my this looks like an old PONTINS, little chalet rooms. Opens the door to a room that was small with the largest furniture they could fit in, hardly room to swing a cat in! With further inspect, The room was absolutely filthy 😩 skirting boards with thick dust, coffee stain on the wall heater running down on to the skirting board, tele dusty, make up marks on the wall by the dressing mirror table, towel radiator in the bathroom literally hand off the wall, toilet lid on the inside dirty, a dirty old toilet brush 🤮 no out door pool, all closed off, not been used on a long time! No good was being served, only breakfast! I went and complained about the room, said they would send some one out. We went out for the day to come back to only a fraction of the skirting board done! Had to go buy cleaning products myself!!! Radiator wasn’t touched till the day after. The lights that spell out RIVIERA outside above the reception has bulbs out, so only half the letters lit up! So disappointing and such a shame as it’s a listed Grade 11 building and could be made on to a beautiful place, beautiful setting over all!!  Don’t be fooled by the lovely photos with Booking.com!!!!!!!!!
