My favourite pub! 😍 we visit Whitby often and paid another visit this weekend accompanied with our Dacshund Rupert. Always a friendly welcome from the team here and hands down the best French onion soup I’ve ever had 😅 (I dart  across Whitby for this stuff to get a table) great selection of drinks and also lovely wine which I haven’t always found in the local Whitby bars as lovely as they are.

It’s our new favourite! So reasonably priced too! You could order the full Yapas (Yorkshire tapas) menu for what it would cost for around one meal in most places.

Long story short! Highly recommend.. pay them a visit and try the food it’s a lovely spot if you are in Whitby 💕

The best pub in Whitby! And onion soup! 😋

Perfect few days away in Whitby. The pub was fab and served good beer and even  better food. All of the staff were friendly and welcoming. The room was lovely. On the front, so  heard all the hustle and bustle of the town. I didn't find it noisy at all. Nothing heard from the bar below. Usual outside noises. Will definitely return here. Highly recommended for food drink and stay. 

Perfect stay

We were advised by a friend to try out the Black Horse Inn during our visit to Whitby. It's the sort of place, that if we hadn't had a recommendation we'd probably have walked on past. It's small, there's no denying that, but we got a table in the corner of the front bar as a family were just leaving. Now for one of the really good bits. For various reasons I'm not great with large meals, my preferred dishes are Tapas type. Now, as we were in Gods Own County the lure of Yapas proved too much to resist. A good selection of beers added to the allure. We ordered Beef and Blue, Baked Yorkshire Camembert, Pork Belly, and Cheese Doorstep Toasties. Perfect for lunch for four of us, plus Nev the  Kromis loved the pork belly. He also enjoyed the fuss and treats given by the landlord, a very jolly fellow. There is a slightly bigger bar at the rear of the pub which was also pretty busy. Overall a great lunch, pretty frugal and great quality.

A Small Pub with a Big Heart

I stayed here for Steampunk weekend, having only been in for drinks before. It suited me them not doing breakfast as it offered me more flexibility about when I wanted to get up. The room was very clean & comfy - excellent shower and comfy bed - with well stocked tea tray. The staff were really helpful & let me keep my kippers in the cellar so they wouldn't go off in my room (to take home from the local smoke house). I also liked having a drink in the well stocked bar too in the evenings

Stayed for a couple of nights over a weekend the black horse is located on church st on the Abby side of the river near the swing bridge a great location with lots of pubs shops and restaurants at your door step as this is a small inn the rooms are also small and decor is old fashioned in keeping with the inn we had no complaints room was clean and staff friendly only slight issue for some would be room a bit noisy as it’s above the bar and facing church st we were ok with this

This is in an ideal location for access to the Abbey (via steps), shops, bars and cafes. However, it is incredibly noisy so difficult to get a good night’s sleep. The music and chat from the pub below could be easily heard in the room. Then from approx. 6am, you have the noise of the lorries making deliveries and refuse collections. There are constant reversing sirens, banging of bottles and the endless chatter. 
The ‘Adventure’ room is very small but clean. When using the shower for the first time, it was scalding hot. We informed a member of staff and have to say, it was rectified immediately. There are toiletries and crisps and biscuits. On check out, we weren’t asked if everything was ok, poor customer service. 

Avoid! Way too noisy! 

What a Great place to stay fantastic location and reasonably priced . Very welcoming hosts even offered us his parking space. As previous reviewer said lovely fluffy white towels and comfiest bed ever. Welcome pack offered unlimited branded tea coffee hot chocolate, water, crisps and buscuits. Will definitely stay again.

Great location and super stay

Record breaking hostelry Just paid 13.65 for a pint of Guinness and a large wine pub next door £9.50 .Thats the most I ve paid anywhere. The price list on the bar say's it should have been £12.40 
The pub is friendly and traditional and seems quite popular

Roped off entrance, nobody to ‘seat’ you, nobody there. 1 second later we would have scarpered. Absurd non British table service, intrusive notices telling people not to ‘swear’. Don’t think I’ll take instructions on what I say in private conversation.  Price of drinks would make a saint swear. Won’t be going again, very poor atmosphere. This used to be one of our favourites. Super break in lovely traditional town centre pub. Comfortable, compact double room. Spotlessly clean throughout.

Very friendly and efficient staff. Table service only in the two small pub rooms. Well kept beers and large gin / rum selection. No hot food but loads of options within yards.
