My wife and I visited Whitby and the George hotel on Friday 16/02/2024 and left Sunday 18/02/2024. We arrived about 15.30 by train , the hotel is yards from the rail station and Whitby centre also down in the harbour area. Check in was quick and pleasant , room 21 , was on the 4th floor with no lift but 2 nights good value with breakfast. Found the room to be clean tidy comfortable and warm, seperate toilet and shower opposite on landing and a joint toilet and shower suite also opposite on the landing with all amenities supplied. Although the bar is a disco bar , we slept really well in the comfortable beds. (2 singles). We found the staff pleasant and approachable and the breakfast full English self serve buffet style very nice. with cereals and juice etc. The George we found was always clean and comfortable and would use again. Room 21 would be a challenge to anyone with mobility problems.

Extremely enjoyable weekend

Stayed for 2 nights with my other half ..hotel lovely and clean  .helpfull staff ..noise weren't a problem we were on third floor ..Great location...the quilts on beds are so thin we were cold the first night and no spares in drawers etc ..rooms tho have everything else you need ..hairdryer/kettle etc..but are cold so remember to put the radiator on as you go in ..breakfast was simple but filled the gap!! No choice off eggs only scrambled buffet breakfast..could be better...but overall for the 2 night stay we enjoyed it...

Nice location

Even though I’ve stayed on numerous occasions and have no complaints about the rooms I traveled to Whitby (stopped somewhere else) took the wife for a drink after telling her about the bar quirky gothic with an amazing brass handrail with elephant features . Well you can imagine my horror when I walked in  What the hell, it was like walking in to a school canteen I know it’s home to Dracula but I never thought he would have a say in the decor cold heartless boring  who had the idea of coming up with stainless steel tops🤷 my god he needs a stake hammered through his heart wondered why we your the only people there could not get out quick enough totally destroyed one of my favourite bars in Whitby

NOISY!!!!!! 
Live music til 2am which booms throughout the building. If you’re a heavy sleeper, you’re fine. Otherwise stay well away. We will definitely not be back. We asked for a room as far away from the noise as possible but could still hear every word on the third floor.
The room was really cold during the night. The quilts are really thin and the heating is turned off at night so you’re unable to keep the room warm.
Sheets don’t fit the beds so just crease under you every time you move.
Windows are old (in keeping with the building) but would benefit from secondary glazing to keep the room warmer and block out external noise.
Breakfast was ok.
Definitely not worth the money. 

NOISY!

Stayed for 2 nights for our anniversary, hotel is a Grade 2 listed building steeped in history, although owners either don't know the buildings history or aren't interested as there isn't any information regarding its history throughout the hotel which is abit disappointing. Firstly rooms are nice and clean and comfy, bathroom is cleaned to a very high standard, can't say the same for outside of windows which let's the rooms down. The pub / check in area has been refurbished but it gives impression that old clashes with new with subdued pink/purple lighting. Hotel has its share of upstairs and downstairs to reach some rooms so not good for anyone with reduced mobility. Drinks can be expensive compared to other places,and the hotel doesn't appear to serve food other than breakfast for guests. The good thing was conveniently situated close to whitby Town, pubs, shops and bus station for exploring, breakfast is buffet style with a good choice of hot and cold foods, tea, coffee and juice to set you up for a day exploring.

OK as a base but a little run down

One of our party had stayed here about 8 years previously. So we booked for a 2 night stay and were pleasantly surprised to find it has been updated during Covid. Great location. Lovely bright sylish bar area. Nice clean and pleasant rooms. Bit of a treck to rooms 8 and 7 but worth it. Nice substancial, self service, breakfast. Only grumbles were only scrabled egg offered and no fried eggs. Also cold places. But thats me being picky. Were greeted by the the ever cheerful and friendly Wyne who seemed to be every where doing every thing all at once. Smashing chap who certainly derserves a mention. Yes we would book agai  returing for nights when the bar is open later that 10pm as on Monday and Tuesday evenings.

Excellent stay

Visited twice once on a night out and the other on a Sunday to watch football. It's the ideal place to watch football with decent priced drinks. Only problem was a lack of chairs and tables but we got one quite quick.

Perfect for football

Enjoyed our stay here very much. We found  the staff to be very friendly and accommodating.  The rooms were clean and comfortable with quality beds and bedding. Great shower room and nice big fluffy white towels.
The buffet breakfast was also VERY nice! 
Help yourself buffet and had plenty of lovely items to choose from.
Cerials, fruits, breads and juices plus cooked help your self bain maris choices.
Hash browns, Scrambled eggs, bacon, sausages, mushrooms, beans and plum tomatoes.

All were great quality and cooked well, we REALLY enoyed our 2 breakfasts during our stay.

Now comes the ONLY negative....... BUT, I will admit, we were aware of prior to booking!

The noise from the bar..... we were directly above the bar (room 4) area so got the FULL IMPACT of the DJ and Karaoke!  After a long day drinking and even wearing ear plugs i did manage to nod off on the Saturday night about 11pm,....... but the Sunday night, Karaoke  night was BEYOND that....... apart from the awful singers, the base of the music DJ was horrendous! 
Even our beds were vibrating!! (Sadly for the wrong reasons! Ha ha ha )
So even though we loved everything about our stay here, this will certainly put us off staying again, unless we were on TOP floor.

Great Location, Lovely & Friendly with very Comfy Rooms

Fantastic Hotel, we stayed here for two nights for the regatta weekend we got a warm welcome the room was perfect en-suite shower and toilet, all clean and tidy with clean towels shower gel and soap were also supplied,  great location right next to the town .the breakfast was also really nice with lots of choices and fresh tea and coffee. We hope to see you all next year. I would highly recommend to anyone visiting Whitby.

Fantastic hotel perfect location

We booked to stay an extra night in Whitby because the trains were on strike (again) and thankfully the dreadful hotel we had booked for our first 2 nights couldn’t fit us in so I booked a further night with The George. On arrival it was nice and clean although there was a strong pungent aroma in the bar area that I found to be be extremely unpleasant. I later found it to be plug in air fresheners.  The lady who checked us in to the hotel wasn’t very friendly or chatty throughout our visit which put a bit of a dampener on a enjoyable nights stay, which is a shame because the chap at breakfast was the polar opposite, he was warm and very welcoming. Our room was small but very clean and comfortable.  We were aware of the Karaoke at night but it didn’t disturb us. The bin lorries early next morning were noisier. The shower was lovely and there’s complimentary Cole & Mason hand-wash and hair & shower gel which smells great.  Breakfast was very good, a really nice buffet breakfast where you could have as much as you like. My only complaint would be that there was runner tomatoes (yuk!) rather than fresh and there was scrambled egg whereas I prefer fried. But it was all nicely presented, freshly made & replenished.
