Stayed here for two nights and was very happy with our stay, the hosts went the extra mile to help me secure my motorbike in there garage so it was extra safe , nothing was to much trouble for them, the room was spotless and a lovely Comfy bed and pillows , great stay from start to finish, will definitely try and stay there next time we are in Whitby.

Great place to stay

This charming property retains many of its original features carefully maintained by its friendly hosts Brian and Vicky.
This was our second stay at Big Sky having stayed there in the summertime 2022. The property is situated at the lower part of Chub Hill within easy walking distance of Whitby Town centre. Off road parking is available and essential for a visit to Whitby particularly during busy periods. Our top floor room was spacious and comfortable with en suite shower and toilet. The room has a wonderful view of Pannett Park which is a well kept public park with a wide range of trees and flower beds making it perfect for exploring on an evening stroll. Pannett Park also hosts Whitby museum which is a fascinating place to visit and learn more about the history of Whitby. Fossils, whaling, jet jewelry and Captain Cook are all on display making it a worthwhile visit to learn more about this fascinating town. A short walk into the town centre gives access to the many shops, bars and restaurants plus the beautiful views of the river esk with the red tiled properties lining the harbour. Of course we had to sample the famous Whitby fish and chips before a quick walk back to Big Sky and a rest before an evening out sampling local beers and cocktails in the many pubs and bars. 
Big Sky offer accommodation only and this was ideal for us as we do not eat breakfast and usually like to find a cosy cafe for brunch. We had a very relaxing stay with the added bonus of its available parking and close proximity to the town centre. We also found calling Big Sky direct was the best way to get a great price on our stay.

Stayed here 27th to 29th of january the owners brian and vicky are lovely and very welcoming 
The room was spacious and spotless clean and the bed was really comfortable , plenty of tea coffee and milk and towels supplied .
Toilet spotless clean and recently decorated , location could not be better 300 yards from the centre 
would definitely recommend this guesthouse if your staying in whitby it has car parking too 
we will be returning

Great weekend stay at big sky

Great location for walking into the town centre. The weather had changed from mold to cold and rainy. We arrived as agreed by the host at 2pm to be told out room might not be ready. OK, we can go for a walk. But, it was just finished. The room was large and spacious, with plenty of cupboards for storage. View of the park was lovely.  Parking is very tight! Toiletries were a hand soap dispenser. Luckily I always take my own. Plenty of tea, coffee, sugar and milk satchets. Bedroom and bathroom were clean. Bed was comfortable with a warm duvet: just as well as it was extremely cold and there was no heating in the room.  On the guest information it was stated that housekeeping would be done between 10 am and 1.30 pm. We showered and had to leave wet towels on the bottom of the shower as there was nowhere to hang them to dry and the radiators were cold, as the heating was not on. We returned to the room around 5pm, to find it just as we left it. Bed unmade, shower room as it was. Wet towels and all. We went without a shower the following morning as we were going home. You cannot shower in the  old with wet towels. Hosts were friendly and welcoming. Asked for cash to pay for the room, a reasonable amount, we visited a cash machine on our first evening.  Was a disappointment as the weather was awful and the room so cold, so no respite.  We spent a lot of time in lovely warm pubs.

Not the best 2 night stay.

We had a lovely stay , room was very spacious and a really big comfy bed . Hosts were really friendly & helpful . Guest house is in the perfect location,  only a 10 min walk to the  centre. Cant wait to stay again.

The location was great as we were a short walk from town and the beach.
Despite the mishap with our room, the bed itself was extremely comfortable and large.
The living room had a lovely, comforting fire which was appreciated for this time of year.

My partner and I booked the Traditional Double Room for two nights having seen that it had an enclosed ensuite bathroom, allowing more privacy in comparison to the Superior Double Room (which bizarrely has the shower right in the same room as the bedroom - and no frosted glass). When we arrived at 12.30pm we were given the key to our room and shown where it was located, however were told that our room was still being made up. We were told that we could leave our bags in the living room if we wished as there were only two other guests staying, so it should be quiet and pretty safe, and were encouraged to go for a walk and come back later. We were fine with this as we were just happy to be able to leave our bags before exploring.

After having a lovely time discovering some of the wonders of Whitby we returned around 5.30pm and made our way to our room. We were very surprised to discover that it was not the Traditional Double Room as requested, but the Superior Double Room which we specifically did not want. Thinking it was just a mix up, we knocked on the owners' door to resolve the issues. We were spoken to by the woman who worked there (short bob, dark hair) and when we explained the situation she merely crossed her arms and defensively said she had to change our rooms as another guest had accessibility requirements.
We would have been absolutely fine with this had they notified us when we first arrived and apologised for the inconvenience, however no apology was offered and the woman had quite a nasty attitude. We enquired if there was another room available and they said we could use the external bathroom of another room for privacy, but to tighten the shower knob properly as it sometimes leaks. Although not ideal, we were glad to be offered an alternative.

However the next day when my partner was having a shower whilst I was in the room, the woman banged on the door and aggressively told me I needed to tell him to get out of the shower as it was leaking into the kitchen. After that we didn't bother having a shower until we got home.

Room itself was basic and unclean (carpet not hoovered properly, cobwebs in chandeliers, dust in lampshades, black mould on the windows panes). The lights above the shower and sink weren't working, along with the WiFi (had to use our phone data instead).  We were also incredibly surprised that there was no handsoap in our "ensuite" given the Covid pandemic... 

To his credit, Brian did offer a small discount when we paid, which was appreciated, but overall the accommodation was pretty poor and we definitely will not be returning. We're quite thankful that Whitby itself was so wonderful as our Big Sky stay really threatened to ruin our trip.

Location fantastic parking no issues was told by Vicky at the beginning of our stay cash so no issues Room clean massive bathroom mattress fantastic pillows a cuddle for your tired head quilt a cuddle ..  Brian ace will be back because it's good value

Great stay

This is disgusting. The room was nothing more than filthy so we spent as little time in it as possible.  I bought some throws and slept on top of the bed as the bedding didn’t even smell fresh. The pillows smelled of unwashed hair and the top cover of the bed had black stains. The carpet was also stained. 
The tv didn’t work properly and the lights weren’t working.  Strangely enough the shower cubicle is contained within the actual room with no privacy. Unbelievable. 

The window frames are filthy and mouldy the whole place needs scrubbing.
The hallway stinks and the toilet had black human hair and pubic hair in when the room was supposedly cleaned. What was on the wall is negotiable? 
No way I’d have eaten breakfast there if they were serving. The place is dirty. 
My standard of clean is not this. 
Considering we are in a pandemic this is not an acceptable level of cleanlines.

Dirty and disappointed. Don’t bother

Booked online through booking.com I was due to arrive around 6pm tried to call constantly to inform but no one answered as I was travelling alone I did get a little worried,
Got to the hotel ! Greeted by young lady who said owners at a wedding so not answering phone, very vague regarding my booking told where room was and told no towels as in wash get some later, although bed was comfy the rest of the room facilities needed some much tlc 
See pics broken roof light in roof no blind so I was awake early in morning as the light shone through at least not cleaning the windows kept some light out see in photos they where dirty, tv didn’t work at all, looked like mould or tea splattered on the wall,

As expected only time I saw someone was on the day I left hovering around to collect payment very overpriced for basic unclean accommodation

Big Sky bnb is in a great location for all local amenities - about a 5/10 min walk from Whitby harbour depending on how fast you walk. We stayed in the first floor room with en suite for 3 nights. The room was a little grubby when we arrived (dusty sides, some mould in the shower) but not too much of an issue. Upon arrival we were shown to our room and offered changes of toilet roll, towels and refills of tea, coffee and milk sachets (the lady who greeted us told us she was not allowed to enter rooms for some reason but said if we left these outside the room, she would replace them). The facilities in the room were good for a short stay - a basic tv with freeview channels, hairdryer, a number of charging points, a writing desk and a comfy sofa in front of the telly. The wardrobe was big but we only had the use of 5 hangers - however, there was ample space for clothes in the chest of drawers (3 large drawers and 2 small). The bed was also comfortable and the shower had strong pressure with three settings.
The main drawbacks to Big Sky were the parking and the noise. There were only room for two cars to park comfortably outside the front of the bnb to avoid blocking other cars in. We found free parking up a hill a short walk away but, for a bnb that states they have free on site parking, we expected a few more spaces. 
Our room itself had a large door leading out onto a small balcony. We had a lovely view of Pannet Park opposite but the bnb is based on a main road leading into the centre of Whitby. The double glazing had obviously not been updated over the years, with sealant coming away at the door hinges, so we could hear cars speeding up the hill throughout most of the night. Good job both of us wear earplugs! 

Overall, an ok stay at Big Sky. Considering the reasonable rates we paid for the room for three nights, we got what we expected. Could be a lot nicer with a few tweaks and more renovation! 

Also a tip for future bookers - this bnb only takes cash as payment. There are free bank cashpoints in Whitby centre so make sure you get money out before the morning you leave!
