Can not recommend this place enough. Its central just of the little bridge set back in a beautiful little courtyard. Room was small but beautifully decorated. Everything we needed. Very oldie worldy. Our next trip to Whitby will be here if we can get in. Very clean and in the centre of everything. 

Overnight stay. 

A lovely little hideaway in the heart of Whitby. The room we had was very small but having said that, it was ok for a two night stay with everything that you need. The shower, although also very small was powerful with loads of instant hot water. 
The lady we interacted with was lovely which sums up the whole experience. 
Although small it was just the right price and we can have no complaints. Would we stay again? Definitely.

Small, cozy and a perfect location.

We booked last minute direct with the venue, and were pleased to find accommodation that was quirky and attractive.  We particularly enjoyed having a balcony overlooking the garden courtyard, and being so close to the centre of the old town.  For breakfast we can highly recommend Mr Cooper's Coffee House, and for entertainment we really enjoyed the twilight boat cruise on the Summer Queen.  

Great for a short break

Great place to be able to walk everywhere in Whitby. Considering its central position, it’s remarkably quiet! Very cosy room and had every amenity at a reasonable price. Highly recommended. No on-site parking, but public parking is nearby so not really a problem.

Perfectly situated to walk everywhere in Whitby.

Stayed at the Dove Loft recently and really did enjoy it. The location is perfect right in the middle of the action, the room very quiet and quaint, and it was exactly what we were after. The fridge was a nice touch too, and bash was lush!

However, it does come with some niggles which could be so easily rectified:

1) There are no places to hang clothes aside from very small coat hooks on the back of the door which isn't suitable for most clothes. There are drawers but people want to hang things up to remove creases. They could easily add a freestanding hanging rail, small wardrobe, or add larger door hooks with hangers on the back.
2) There is only a bath, and it is without a shower head attachment so cannot wash hair. Please add one! The bath soap dispenser nozzle kept falling off too.
3) There are no shelves next to the w/c sink where the only mirror is. There is another sink with plenty of storage but no mirror. Some small corner shelves in the w/c could be added so can store toiletries/toothbrushes.
4) The TV in the main bedroom is tiny and very far away from the bed, it's be much better wall mounted or moved closer to the bed.
5) The instructions via booking.com said the Abbey Car Park was just 2 mins walk away. It's at least a 15min extremely steep walk and not possible with luggage. Suggest to amend instructions! Directing people to the harbour car park would be better (impossible to get a space on Church St car park).

If these could be rectified, certainly would rate 5* and would stay again, despite constantly hitting my head on the ceiling!

Lovely flat in the middle of town, with some niggles

Booked through booking.com for a 1 night stay, fell in love with the place at first sight,
We got the dove loft room it’s like a mini apartment, with a lounge with TV sofa and sofa bed,second room with free standing bath and sink, separate  toilet room, and a nice size bedroom, you get all bath/wash products and lots of tea and coffee, no wardrobe so pack some hangers as there is little hooks on doors to hang things. We would definitely visit again and book this room.

A little Gem

A fantastic location right in the centre of Whitby ! Peaceful courtyard packed with plants , quirky antiques and a comfortable room complete with lace and lots of special touches . We had the best few days browsing the shops, walking along the beach and returning to our lovely room ! The Shepherd’s Purse is definitely a place to return to and we hope to as soon as we can .

What a Hidden gem of a hotel. From the essentials like cleanliness and comfort down to the small details with locally sourced eco friendly soap / shampoo / conditioner to 4 types of tea, 3 types of coffee, wine glasses.and a stack of towels on the bed with a flower on top. I cannot fault it in the slightest. Me and my wife spent more time in the hotel room than we did exploring Whitby. I was too cosy to leave. And i have stayed in MANY a hotel in my years and this is by FAR and AWAY the comfiest bed we have ever slept in. Add to that the balcony with table and chairs with a lantern to the spa bath which wasted several hours in. It wasnt just a hotel it was an experience all of its own. Thank you Sophie for such a wonderful trip.we will definitely be back

Hidden Gem

Just back from a 3 night break for new year and on the whole have enjoyed my stay.
Hotel and bedroom a little tired but comfortable and clean and warm. Water nice and hot in the shower except for new years eve when I suppose everyone was getting ready for the big night at the sane time, which is understandable.
Nice view of the Abbey from the bedroom and quiet despite facing the road.
Reception and checking in and out really good and friendly staff. 
Barstaff were friendly but understaffed a lot of the time and people were left waiting for service for long periods sometimes.
Restaurant staff mostly very friendly. 
The meals were not big but adequate with having 3 courses.  
1st evening meal very nice and good choice of courses.
All three days breakfasts very good, and good selection of food. 
2nd evening meal,which was the Gala New Years Eve menu, was a good choice as well, but I had the Beef which was unedible.
3rd evening meal very nice again
Very good afternoon cream tea on New Years Eve with lovely scones.
The entertainment on New Years Eve was very disappointing in my view, it got a bit stale and lost its excitement,  not like the next night where the artist was really good and kept the audience all night.
The hotel is pet friendly and there were quite a few dogs in , which I don't think is ideal when people are eating and drinking. I'm not a fan of dogs but I know that pets are part of people's families.
Overall a nice stay but a few complaints.

Nice stay but a few complaints

We stayed for one night in this little hidden gem in Whitby. We were in room one which is in the courtyard with table and chairs outside on the decking. The room was beautifully decorated and spotlessly clean throughout. It’s on the small side but what it loses in size it makes up in character. Beautiful bed linen, fresh coffee for the cafetière, a rainfall shower in the bathroom and a location which is probably one of the best. Parking is a 5 minute walk and was £9 for 24 hours. Having visited Whitby several times we wished we had discovered this hidden gem before. We will be returning for sure.
