We visited 29th September for four nights. On arrival we were glad to see a lovely touch that David had provided fresh bread, butter, jams and milk. We stayed at 1 Barn Owl. The accommodation was clean and well thought out. The bed was comfortable and the bedding was of a high quality. The location is perfect and we would not hesitate to recommend Newton Farmhouse. David was a friendly host and even provided us with fresh eggs on departure. You definitely need a car to explore this stunning location. Thank you for a fabulous staycation. Andy and Jerrie 

Great staycation 

We had the most wonderful visit  at Newton farmhouse in the Owl barn. David went out of his way to make the barn perfect and the detail and thought that went into it was outstanding! We couldn’t have been happier with our choice of place to stay. It is in the perfect location you’re near enough to everything. Our short stay was amazing and we would definitely go back! Thank you so much!

Visit to Newton farmhouse

We stayed in owl barn 2 which has been renovated to a high standard. Cosy but perfectly designed for 2 people. Very clean and some nice touches like fresh bread and milk on arrival. Hosts were friendly and welcoming. Had a lovely evening meal and Sunday roast at the green dragon. Spent 2 sunny days cycling some gorgeous routes particularly around lyndhurst, reasonable price for the standard of accommodation And good location, will definitely be back.

Perfect for couples

We were looking for a break in the new forest for our little family. The online info states that children / kids are welcome and when we booked the self-contained cottage ( £150 per night!!) we assumed our 4 year old would be welcomed. 

On arrival I was met by Lizzie who didn’t say hello, she simply walked into the cottage with a loaf of bread, came out asking why there was a child with me and said children were not welcome on site as this was their decision and business model. She said that children break things and cause trouble, and insisted that there were no facilities available for children (there were signs onsite notifying that children could swim at parents risk) and said she wouldn’t allow our son to sleep with us, and asked me what ‘I thought should happen?’

I was so confused, I was sure I had booked for the 3 of us but she insisted the booking was for two adults and that I had deliberately misinformed David. She asked if my husband was arriving in a vehicle, I said he would be and she scoffed exclaiming ‘I expect you would like him to park here, and now we have to arrange this too!’ I asked her if she would like me to leave and she told me to wait (in the pouring rain) while she called her husband. 

She came back, said David had agreed to allow us to stay and then told me to put wellies on my son so he could go collect eggs with her. 

I felt so humiliated and confused. I am not sure how our search criteria changed we were looking for a holiday home and managed to book a very expensive break in a self contained, one bedroom cottage.

Over the three days the pressure from David and Lizzie continued, my husband was standing on the porch of the cottage we paid for, smoking his vape, David came out to question what he was doing. 

For three nights, every time we went outside the security light was triggered providing light, which was quickly switched off. My husband seriously hurt his leg trying to navigate back from throwing out waste in the dark.

When we wanted to leave the cottage, David would come to see what we were doing. He worked in his shed throughout the stay which overlooked the cottage, providing no privacy.

On the check out day, at 10am sharp David and Lizzie arrived to say we should have already checked out.

In a nutshell we were treated as though we were imposters on their land.

Unfriendly and controlling hosts

Stayed for 2 nights in the lovely Trafalgar Room. This room is very spacious, with a huge 4 poster, a settee, large bathroom, separate loo. Kettle, tea, coffee, hot choc and some biscuits, plus a bottle of water. Bed itself was super comfy. Breakfast- excellent cooked breakfast with choice of eggs, plus cereals, yogurt, fruit, pastries, etc. Lovely, friendly dogs, alpacas at the back (they didn't want to say hello) and lots of chickens. Great service, excellent hospitality. Happy to recommend.

Gorgeous B&B

We stayed for 2 nights for the August bank holiday and were so glad we did! I wanted somewhere with an outdoor pool or at least somewhere to take in the sunshine, and this little gem appeared in my search. We had a day by the pool which was a total luxury - 28 degrees in England, a lovely outdoor pool, garden with flowers everywhere, towels and furniture to relax around and read books by.  Made this a better choice over some local and pricey 4 star hotels any day! We stayed in the Trafalgar suite which had a lovely 4 poster and sofa, separate toilet and bathroom with a bath and overhead shower, lots of space and plenty of mirrors and plug sockets. It was super warm but we came prepared with a desk fan at night and Lizzie helpfully left us a sheet instead of the duvet (which would be so cosy in the winter, next time though!). TV with freeview to watch when back in the room after dinner, which we spent at the king’s head one night (1 mile walk) and the royal jaipur Indian restaurant the other (3 -5 minute drive). Highly recommend the food in both but the curry was of a very high standard at the latter. Lizzie and Dave run a lovely b&b, Lizzie in particular is great to chat to and is really bubbly, Dave made sure the pool was topped up and grows some beautiful English dahlias in the garden that we had in our room. Towels supplied, tea and coffee in the room, superb English breakfast and lots of fresh fruit and coffee, company of the lovely dogs here and there, and overall a super stay. 

Wonderful Bank Holiday break 

Recently returned from our forth stay here in two years, a big thank you to David & Lizzie for looking after us so well - fabulous, it really doesn't get much better especially the breakfasts, although every part of it is superb. Spotless rooms, well serviced and very comfortable, hope to get back here again soon Martin & Karol

Keep Coming Back

Really friendly hosts, amazing building, great dogs & alpacas.
Definitely worth the extra for the full breakfast. Only a nice, short walk to the Parish Lantern for dinner and easy to access the new forest if you have a car.

Great stay

Have stayed here many times and realised I had not reviewed, so lets put that right!
Great hosts with local knowledge a plenty, the Trafalgar room is spacious and comfortable. The sausages for breakfast are a must. Lovely garden although have never ventured in the outdoor swimming pool. The place to stay for visiting nearby Salisbury or the new forest. Our only point of call when in this area.

Top notch

I stayed in many bed and breakfast but Newton Farm while it was certainly not what is cheaper is undoubtedly one of the best of one of the most pleasant, fun and useful owners I've met in a long time. I was with a friend and our twin bedroom was exceptional: clean, comfortable and, what's not common for a twin bedroom there's plenty of room for separate beds in corners and not coast to coast. Breakfast in the winter garden was lavish with bowls of fresh fruit salad, Greek yogurt made a family home, cakes, meals, pajamas and a nice breakfast at the family home, you'll have a pleasant family room and not coast to coast.
